Day 1- August 4th
When I first wrote this diary entry I was still in the UK. I'd hardly travelled anywhere. This entry isn't very informative, and far too focused on the silly little things.
As a result I am going to skip it out. The basic fact is that I was on a flight to London Heathrow from Manchester Airport at 18:30 however it left much later than expected. So it just meant I was t Manchester airport for much longer than I wanted to be. Manchester airport isn't a bad place to wait really. I mean it's an airport, so there are the same or very similar places to wait all over the world. I was comfortable for those few hours, and I didn't have to rush about either.
One of the more interesting things that happened was trying to get from the airport to the correct travelodge for the night.
So in or near Heathrow there are two travelodges. Heathrow Central, and Heathrow Terminal 5. There were some members of the UK contingent staying in one of them. I thought I did the clever thing and managed to stay in the correct one for the night. Unfortunately I didn't. But before that I had the difficult task of getting to the correct travelodge.
So I didn't know which bus I needed to get to arrive at the correct one. The price for the journey is £4.50 which is not unexpected for an airport bus near London. So I got on one bus. Drive all the way out of the Heathrow Airport Area (Heathrow Airport is the size of a small town!). I got to one end and realised I was at the wrong side (10 miles about 15km away from the one I needed to be at.) So then I was back on the bus to Heathrow Terminal five again (Wooo) and onto a different bus to the other side of heathrow and then finally arrive at the correct hotel. This large and inconvenient round journey took around about one and a half hours. I made it to the travelodge and I got to my room and started sorting myself out for the night. Wash stuff to the bathroom bed stuff to the bedroom. I wandered about the hotel for a while. Trying to spot the rest of the UK contingent until I realised that I had booked the wrong room. I caught up on a bit of news and then tried to get a good night's sleep. Something that proved pointless but more about that tomorrow.
