Also, if you’re talking usage in ‘Shakespearian’ English, thou is informal you, not the formal (see tu versus vous in French for reference). What this means, practical-usage-wise, is that it gets used when you’re talking to people you’re close to, people you’re ‘above’ socially, and people you hate (yes, that’s a confusing set of use-cases. Embrace the confusion in your dialogue!) Also yes, ‘Our Father who art in Heaven/Hallowed be thy name’ is probably the source of some of the confusion. If thou-form is informal, why is it being used to address a deity? Answer: because Tyndale (the first person to translate the Bible into English directly from the Hebrew and Greek) translated all the plural-yous he found into ‘you’ and all the singular-yous into ‘thou’, following the much earlier use-case for you-thou before the Normans got their hands on it and made it class/familiarity-based.
