Dating in New York - No. 2
Date Name: Michael
Subtitle: The Hipster Deadpan
Place of Date: Fort Greene restaurant/bar, Tuesday night
Activity: Snack and Drinks
Evaluation: So, clearly, he was super into sarcasm to the point that at points, I couldnât tell when he was being sarcastic or serious. Â He was totally deadpan. Â Hard to read. Â Obviously definitely cute - tall, skinny and bespectacled. Â But not sure I really felt like we connected. Â The conversation trailed uncomfortably at times, and awkwardly skidded and hopped from place to place. Â I felt like we didnât really talk about anything of substance or real meat. Â He certainly wasnât well versed in politics. Â And he probably doesnât care about social issues, social change or even knows what social justice is (he didnât even really understand community gardens). Â Which is really too bad! Â He was utterly cute and attractive. Â Ahh well.... So it goes.
Dating in New York - No. 1
Date Name: Justin
Subtitle: The Wholesome One
Point of Contact: OKCupid
Place of Date: Midtown pub, Saturday night
Activity: Celtic music
Evaluation: Smart, supposedly into progressive politics and policies but corporate lawyer, South American, seemed really âwholesome,â probably a good family man in the future, polite, possibly old-fashioned, soft spoken, definitely nice, good conversation, bedroom skills questionable
Conclusion: Â Heâs good platonic friend material, probably/definitely not boyfriend material. Â But do I ask him to be friend? Â Can you really be friends with a guy you went on an OKCupid date with?
