Hermione hates parties, especially intimate ones. When she gets an invitation to Blaise Zabini's New Year's party, she's got no excuse not to go. But Blaise's girlfriend, Ginny, is kind of an ex friend now after a very public breakup with Ron, and they haven't spoke in weeks. This is the story of semi anti social Hermione suffering through a party with a group of friends she doesn't feel like she belongs with.

Hermione Granger was prone to getting stood up. She didn’t know why it always happened to her, but there had been too many instances to call it a mere whim.

or, Regulus, ready for death, shows up to the Grimmauld Place after destroying the final Horcrux and meets James, his very, very angry ex boyfriend.

ok so now that i’ve read the big three dramione fics turned into trad published novels…. it’s time to speak my truth

for context, i have never read the auction. i have read manacled and DMATMOOBIL (yes i know she said it’s separate but honestly it’s similar)

here are my spoiler free rankings:

1. rose in chains aka the auction

i know. SO SURPRISING TO ME AS WELL. i genuinely think it’s because i never read the original fic so i went into it blind (so to speak, of course i know the HP universe), and so i didn’t constantly compare it to the auction. i read this one the quickest. i enjoyed the no plot only vibes aspect. i liked all the characterizations. no notes, exactly what i was looking for. also the most similar to the harry potter world.

2. the irresistible urge to fall for your enemy aka DMATMOOBIL

while this lacked in good pacing (it should have been one book rather than a duology), it genuinely had some of the funniest dialogue and characterizations i have ever read in romance / fantasy. up there with india holton. i genuinely laughed out loud sometimes. delightful. slow paced unfortunately with little happening in the middle, but a great set up for the second book. i listened to the audio book & read along.

3. alchemised aka manacled

ok. i really really enjoyed this book. truly, it was my most anticipated book all year. i listened to it for a bit (would not recommend), read the print, and read on my app. ultimately, i found the worldbuilding too distracting and way too similar to HP while trying to stray from it, and while i liked that with rose in chains, i wished alchemised was its own world. i think sen would do a fantastic job worldbuilding from scratch. i wish i had read book before reading manacled. still, very well written and easy to read. great editing.
