Grey is warmer/lighter and gray is darker/cooler. Also, grey is for brown, rosy, or purple tints, while gray is for blue, yellow, or green tints. Gray is more vivid, grey is muted. Grey is more sour and sharper in taste, while gray is smoother and softer. It's sort of the opposite for sound though. Gray is feathers, clouds, fur, still water, light rain, mist, stones, the sky. Grey is mountains, sediments/earth, dust, smoke, floods. Storms and metal can go either way.
