Sokka, unable to trust Zuko as he tried to join the group, teased him by saying, "He probably just covered himself in honey or something so that appa would lick him."
That night, Sokka had a dream in which a half-naked Zuko smeared honey over his body and pleaded, "Won't you lick me?"
Sokka bolted upright and nearly cried out, but managed to stifle the shout so as not to wake everyone else. "That hot-headed bastard... showing up in my dreams like this... What the hell is going on?!" The more he thought about the dream—even though he didn't want to remember it—the more a wave of embarrassment and self-loathing washed over him.
One day, as Zuko—who was beginning to settle into the team—served everyone tea, he remarked, "This tea tastes even better with honey."
Sokka overreacted to the word "honey"; he violently spat out the tea he was drinking, splashing it all over Haru, who was sitting nearby.
Sokka’s ordeal continued for some time.
He tried his best to keep his distance whenever Zuko undressed—such as during bathing or training sessions—but it was difficult to avoid doing so when Zuko had to change into his guard’s uniform.
Even when they discussed the plan, he found it impossible not to be distracted, as Zuko would whisper right into his ear in a hoarse voice.
However, this anguish—which I had even thought might last a lifetime—came to an end surprisingly quickly.
That’s because Sokka was able to reunite safely with Suki and Hakoda.
The experience of seeing them again and saving them gave Sokka enough peace of mind, a sense of accomplishment, and confidence to banish that dream from his mind.
And then came the Day of the Comet. This, too, came to occupy the greater part of Sokka's thoughts, and the days following the defeat of the Fire King flew by in a whirlwind.
Memories from over a decade ago were flashing through Sokka's mind.
An adult Zuko was straddling him, smearing honey over his own body right before Sokka's eyes.
He could clearly see Zuko's nipples being teased by those long, white fingers coated in honey.
In his heart, Sokka added, “This is so much better than what I saw in my dream.”
With a provocative smile, Zuko leaned in to kiss Sokka.
Zuko’s long hair fell like a curtain, blocking out the outside world and enclosing the two of them in the world of the night.
