Mosaic Minded is an au made by @picklesplitz that mixes the idea of madoka magica and dandy's world into one big package.
It's plot follows 3 toons who want to live better lives, but in their efforts to change things, do things that have consequences they never pictured happening occuring.
These toons, Shelly, Brusha, and Tisha will be the point of view characters, as we see them fumble miserably at trying their best.
This is a multimedia project, created through visual art, writing, and animations posted on my YouTube.

Mosaic minded au brusha piece.. I wanted to remake this drawing but it kinda turned into this LMAO. Shes physically rough because this is her first time transforming and her body is taking a toll on itself,, some Ichor dripping off her. Despite the discomfort though she’s in awe, it’s a projection of who she feels she really is.

Just like the og post I wanna ramble about brusha cuz the song sort of heavily motivated me, lmao. Feel free to read, or not. And if you’re one of my close friends you’ve already probably heard me talk about this already lmao. It’s about tisha and brusha’s relationship in the au from brusha’s pov, Most updated version anyway, lol.
One of the earliest events in mosaic mindeds main plot is brusha and Tisha’s falling out.
I don’t talk about the early events of mosaic minded a lot, despite them being awfully important to how Brusha and Tisha act modern day, and most of the info is told to Shelly from Tisha’s perspective.. The song really fits how I feel Brusha felt about the whole situation, and how she views living on her own, and her magical form, and I figure it’d be nice to explain it from her experience.
Basically, before Tisha had even met Shelly, she had taken in Brusha after finding struggling to talk with others. Brusha most of the time just came off as insensitive and straight forward with zero sugarcoating or tone understanding or anything. Brusha of course thanked her for the help, but over time realized that their friendship wasn’t really.. growing well.
Tisha always seemed to insist on helping her out, explaining things for her, helping her with mundane tasks, etc, it’s all quite nice things at first glance. However the paintbrush felt how much she was intruding over her self control,, things starting to feel controlling, or completely planned ahead for her, rather than allowing herself to adapt with each day.. Tisha seemed to want to keep her on some path she made up in her mind, nothing more, nothing less. it made her feel lonely and uneasy, yet Tisha was the only person who seemed to get her, only person to tolerate her lack of communication skills.
it took her ages to realize that just because Tisha had good intentions, doesn’t mean she can’t still feel hurt, spending lots of time trying to put her thoughts in art pieces that usually got tossed out by her roommate. She knew Tisha just wanted to stay tidy, she didn’t want to cause problems, or sound ungrateful. The longer things took though, the more she was tired of feeling helpless, being cushioned by Tisha. She recognized that Tisha was being extremely reliant on her, insisting she was needed to help Brusha.
But Brusha wanted to paint her own path. She wasn’t hoping to be cushioned by Tisha forever, and with months of no change, that desire for independence only grew more and more. She didn’t want to limit herself by what she couldn’t do. She eventually snapped at Tisha after she made an irritated comment, confronting the tissue box about her behavior, about how she felt trapped unable to fully talk about what she felt, without Tisha watering down her words, without judgement, without integrity behind it.
Tisha didn’t take it lightly, she tried her hardest to plead she was only doing what she felt was best for Brusha, the whole thing got quite messy, honestly. However, ite ended with Brusha storming out of her place, exclaiming how she clearly didn’t understand her at all, and how from now on, she’ll find her own solution to her issues, leaving the small home the two had to go find her own space, to try to learn while she could.
Nowadays Brusha lives alone, she’s still getting the hang of things, for sure, but she’s fine being isolated, putting her emotions into her artwork, and whatnot,, after getting her magical form she feels like her truest self in that form. While it does hurt to travel and get scraps and supplies for herself, she can’t help but feel satisfied that her new life, her home, her magical form, her solution, is her own. The loneliness gets to her a lot.. but it’ll be a while til she’s ready to get a friend again.
I keep occasionally remembering that there’s this therapy clinic called mosaic minded that I had ZERO CLUE ABOUT when naming my au. and they coincidentally happen to specialize in complex trauma therapy, grief, and neurodivergent care . Sometimes I like to jokingly imagine the main trio going there to get help for their issues.
FIRST UPDATE TO THE BLOG SINCE ITS RELEASE..!!! Ignore how it’s almost been a year ITS NOT IMPORTANT!! The motivation to update this blog has resparked with the changes in my life, and im hoping now this will soon be updated more often!!
If you’re wondering, mosaic minded is NOT going to be affected by the situation happening in the dandys world community, and will remain a dandys world centric au, I’ve had ro think about this really hard, and ultimately decided I was happiest keeping it as is. This does not mean I support qwel, I do not condone her actions and I’ve talked heavily on my personal platforms about how I hate how she’s addressing things. I simply have an emotional attachment to this game and can’t move on as easily as most people can, so I’m choosing to do keep myself at ease and just continue my passion project for the time being. Do your own research, don’t play the game, find alternatives, and support the victims, please.
With that out of the way, I’m here to talk about mosaic minded things, the main plot (act one!) is 100% complete and down and I do not believe I will add much more, and therefore this blog will be updated alot to get that story out as much as I can!! I’m very happy about this. I did minor rewrites and changes throughout the year and I’m at a point where I’m satisfied with what I’ve cooked up.

I think that’s all I got to say!! I hope you all enjoy the small bits, even if it’s not much, I just really like sharing this au cuz it’s a passion project!! Art spam will continue as usual now, lol. I’m also just debating whether to post all the artfigrb attacks I’ve gotten of the gang, since they’re not my art but I love them to bits augh. I’ll figure that out
Shelly is an awkward, yet sociable toon. They struggle a ton to put effort into things, getting overwhelmed easily, shutting down quickly, and relying heavily on the people around them to do simple tasks. She loves hanging out with their friends, and appreciates all the help she gets from them, yet never seems to return the favor, never learning how to stand on their own, nor that life won’t mold itself to wishes. It’s hard to learn when people won’t let you. She never really develops independence because of it.
Gifted the ability to transform by Brusha, she uses her magical form to appeal to the toons around her,, It gives her a boost in confidence and independence! On the outside, anyway… you can change your looks, but you can’t change the person inside, not if you don’t try.
She often lets her emotions get the better of her, breaking down at small things and being unable to cope with things not working out the way she wishes,, often taking that frustration out physically, on herself and others.. only made worse the moment her magical form is out.
after having to be relocated to Tisha’s home, she tried to focus on the massive crush she had on Astro to pass the time, her life being such a mess at the time. The longer she was with him though, the more she picked up that he wasn’t really interested in her that way.. so in a desperate attempt to recapture his attention, she pulled a stunt with her magical form, only to scare him off with how inauthentic she was acting. She couldn’t accept his rejection, her frustration blacking out his kind words of willing to try things again in the future.. going home and breaking down.. letting her anger get the best of her, leaving others to clean up the aftermath of her selfish desires.

RELATIONSHIPS
Tisha
Shelly constantly clings to Tisha’s side, constantly relying on her to save her in every situation, oblivious to the toll it takes on her friend. Only when it’s too late does she panic about being a terrible friend to her.
Brusha
Shelly finds Brusha fascinating, her work and view on life and magical form so unique.. she aspires to be like Brusha, or the idea of her, atleast. Never really being close enough to form a genuine connection with her, leaving to a lack of attention given to her.
Sprout
She’s very appreciative of all he’s done for her, giving kind words of encouragement when she can, though she sort of sits around as he struggles, not ever really stepping in to help him back when he needs it. The last she recalls is him being really, really terrified of her because of her magical form, causing her to relocate.
Cosmo
Shelly gets along quite well with Cosmo, the two feeling like peas in a pod when they hang out. Of course, they don’t always meet eye to eye, but that’s what friendships are for, right? Shelly struggles to keep herself composed, sometimes, leading to tension between the both of them.
Astro
Shelly has a comically large crush on the fluffy toon, wishing to be the star to his moon. She dreams about the future the both of them could have, being very clingy and affectionate towards him. She fears he won’t like who she thought, the idea of changing who she is for him is so tempting
Tisha is often busy and stressed out, not that you’ll hear about it from her. After a falling out with her old friend, Brusha, she vows to herself not to make the same mistakes she did in the past. She constantly overworks herself for other people, and lets them get away with things they shouldn’t have in order to not burn another friendship, even if they’re frustrating. She feels no desire to get a magical form, finding them uncanny and sick.. she keeps her mouth quiet about her unease about them, however.
She cares about Shelly a lot to the point where her feelings for them blur a lot between being their friend, and wanting to pursue her romantically, making her insistence to help Shelly every moment she can feel a bit desperate and unhealthy. She fears losing her, so she doesn’t discourage them from engaging in activities she doesn’t improve, yet she never lets Shelly grow from her mistakes, constantly covering for her problems with excuses and bending to whatever she desires, often resulting in her cleaning up the aftermath of Shelly’s problems. She even suppresses her own feelings towards her, just so Shelly can pursue the one she loves.
She lets her life revolve around this girl, yet never asks herself if it’s worth it, to keep sacrificing her own happiness to be a good friend, breaking herself just as much as one with a magical form.

RELATIONSHIPS
Shelly
Tisha keeps Shelly nearby in order to make sure she’s okay. She constantly compares her deep down to Brusha all the time, unintentionally using Shelly as a way to ‘redeem herself’ for her past actions, by carrying her through everything, not realizing it ultimately harms her in the long run.
Brusha
Tisha feels extreme guilt over being so harsh to Brusha in the past. Yet she knows she can’t do anything to fix it, even if she’s concerned seeing her. She doesn’t mind Shelly bonding with her, as she knows she shouldn’t hold back a friendship due to her own issues. She focuses on fixing herself, than trying to stress about it, yet ironically revolves her whole life around “not making the same mistake”
Sprout
After previously just being hired to help sort things out, the two sort of just gotten along as time goes on. Tisha does get irritated with how disorganized the farmer is at times, but she knows he’s trying his best. He’s been so kind in return, anyway, giving her fruits on visits when possible, and introducing her to his own pals
Astro
Tisha doesn’t think or care much about the moon man, the two talk sometimes about keeping things clean once in a while, but not much more than small talk, catching her extremely off guard hearing Shelly crush on him. She can’t help but feel a smidge jealous, but she doesn’t want to be unreasonable, she wants the best after all, and Astro is a nice guy to her, anyway.
Brusha is very closed off and hard to talk to, building her walls close tight. Having ran away from Tisha ages go, she lives on her own, isolated from the rest of the toons in the park. She fears a friend may snap in her face if she doesn’t do good enough, so she’s focused on finding her own solutions to her problems, trying to build independence. She doesn’t have much, but what she does have is her own.
She found an ichor river flooding through the park’s tunnels after striking a deal with dandy to try to get a discounted medkit… initially scooping some into a bucket to investigate back home,, and accidentally learning she could shift her form after doing so.. deciding to dub the new form as a “magical one”, due to it seeming so unworldly…she uses her new ability to help herself feel less cold and bitter.. even if it’s more akin to slapping a bandage over a problem.
the form and discovery is so personal and comforting to her, that she only ended up sharing it with one person, Shelly. Initially out of pity, she ends up wishing to guide Shelly out of her reliance on her friends, to focus on herself. She did soften up a little when finding out others found out about the ichor tunnels and found themselves a form too.. feeling comfortable enough to open back up to people. She only shuts down when She feels hurt seeing Shelly be so reliant on Tisha,, feeling like her attempt at bonding feeling.. empty and ignored.. only worsened when news about Shelly’s use of her gift is less pleasant.

RELATIONSHIPS
Tisha
Brusha can not stand Tisha at all,, as silly as it feels, she easily breaks down whenever she’s around,, feeling so incompetent and pathetic again.. she strives to not rely on others because of her, feeling so betrayed and hurt with how fresh the wounds are, using her magical form to cope and bandage these troubles
Shelly
Brusha initially only felt pity for Shelly, seeing her struggle and be helpless on her own. Yet the idea of genuinely being able to help someone made her motivated to want to bond, even if she hadn’t really fixed her own issues yet. She’s trying her best, only to feel ignored and betrayed learning Shelly hands out with the person who destroyed her in the first place, making her unsure of everything once again.
Cosmo
Brusha finds Cosmo as a sort of annoying cousin, in a strange way, he comes around and makes a ton of noise. He seems to atleast try to understand her, though, even if they don’t get along most of the time. She respects it, really, even if she’d rather cover her ears around him.
Dandy
The “friendship” these two have is more one sided than anything, Brusha just sees their conversations more transactional than anything. He questions he asks about her and her life and herself make her feel so on edge at times, yet she can’t help but be thankful for everything he’s down for her since she’s moved, from helping her get supplies to just chatting every once in a while so she stays stable.

VEE
Vee was made to help store information about the toons in the park. She has information on ALL of them stored deep down, the humans figured it’d be best to have a little device to log info on at the same time as check on toons. Due to the ichor used to constantly power her. She got her own autonomy, though was locked out of these files to avoid her interfering with things or being biased.
Nowadays, she is part of one of the monitor teams. If you recall monitors are usually information sharing based, jobs. She focuses on mainly delivering news to toons, moving around a lot because of it. She never really stays in one spot
Due to being partially robot she can’t handle much weather, so she often only comes out during the day time when it’s not pouring, and ALWAYS carries tools to keep herself dry and safe if possible. She’s still part toon, but due to her machine bits if she gets hurt she can’t recover as easily and its permanent damage (ex, the crack in her screen she gets from Shelly near the end of the story.] she COULD be repaired theoretically, but because no humans are around and the toons having to use scrapped materials she likely would never be truly the same. The idea scares her a bit.
Vee also has this weird fascination with the magical forms and ichor in general. It partially relates to how she fears being beat up to recognition. It’s why she goes out of her way to talk to Shelly and get her and Cosmos rep back up. She both wants to study their behavior to see how the stuff works on someone, and get the magical forms to be social acceptable again, in case she were to ever attempt to get one herself.
DANDY
Dandy in the mosaic minded au isn’t the main character or anything in the au due to no show existing. Instead he was simply the first to be successfully made. This kinda led him to growing first and being a sort of assistant to the humans when he was small. He liked having tasks to do and stuff. However once gardenview was empty after the evacuation, he still felt the need to complete tasks for people. So he opened up a little shop and now trades human junk he finds for valuables he wants.. he adores his shop and his trash and loves chatting with everyone that comes by.
He is one of the only people who talked with Brusha before she started opening up, mainly because Brusha kept coming to him to get tools for her artistic visions. He calls her his favorite customer💚 Brusha was never fond of him, their friendship is really one sided, but she atleast appreciates all the deals he’s given. She probably wouldn’t be able live on her own, atleast as stable as she now, without his shop. Brusha finds the ichor tunnels BECAUSE of an offer dandy gave her, but that’s something I’ll get into when I talk about Brusha stuff.
I was thinking about making her a wolf/fox but I blinked and suddenly she's a cat
Cus like the transformation helps her express herself and speak he rmond and feel more big, more important, so fox/wolf Cus big cool animal. But then the idea of a tail scarf and boom now kitty.

I think ginger having a magical form could be really interesting. With how fragile a cookie is having one to feel stronger and be able to speak probably feels so thrilling and makes her feel confident in myself AUGHH.. while ginger isn’t in mosaic minded for. World building reasons 🥹 this is such a cool “what if!”, plus it gives Cosmo someone else to bounce off🤔 very awesome sauce
