Introduction Post

Howdy! I’m Moth Ghoul, I go by a lot of names but here just call me Moth.

I’ve made this blog to document my zines, and spread information about zines in general.

I may focus on zine stuff for my college, but be aware that there are zine fests all over, and if you can’t find one, make one!

A good resource for having events such as zine making or zine swaps, as well as making zines in general, is your nearest library! Most librarians are happy to help, and there are printers there.

All of the zines I make are tagged #moth’s zines and I will be reblogging other people’s zines and zine content.

I will be focusing more on the handmade, punk side of zines, so probably not much content about those bigger, more professional looking fanzines. I want to show how any random person can make a zine, and that this is a form of publication for everyone!

People who are able to write multichaptered fics and not get sick of your own idea or spoil everything in chapter 1 or lose motivation or forget about it, teach me your secrets

Outline with some wiggle room. Room for details, room to add, and room to reorder.

Make a running gag like an inside joke for yourself that you want to keep up (it can be something small and insignificant or crucial to a subplot just as long as you like it. And you can always edit it out later if you want)

Write in whatever order you want! Linear writing isn't always the best. Heck if creating art was linear your favorite movies, shows, and series would take forever to make (and sometimes they take forever as is)

As for not spoiling—screw that! Drop some hints, foreshadowing is beautiful. You can know the ending by chapter 1 as long as the rest of the story holds people's attention

Plot twists shouldn't change the ending or come out of left field. It's more fun to facepalm and question how you missed the signs as a reader than be thrown for a loop

Get through a few chapters before posting anything. Sometimes a fic just doesn't want to work with you and you might have to abandon it. Save the ideas, you can reuse them in a different story.

The notes on your phone can be useful to jot down ideas on the go. A notebook and pen work too but it's not as organized

Expand on your au. Characters don't have to share all their back stories in the fic. Think up a few misadventures, get invested in the world you have planned. Stretch beyond the plot. Go deeper into who you're writing. You don't have to share everything

World building is your friend. Make up rules, history, animals and plants, legends and myths (not the best for realistic works) Knowing the au world well and getting into it helps a lot with keeping interested

Beta readers and friends to bounce ideas off of are miracles. The best motivators out there.

Not meaning to be snarky here but british trans people have been reporting on this for ages and it's only really making a splash in the US now that erin reported it. I'm glad that she's taking on the morally necessary international perspective but we've been pretty fucking loud about it. I just sometimes feel like americans don't appreciate that everyone else keeps up with your news out of necessity but the reverse is much rarer.

Trans Kids Deserve Better, the under 18s direct action group that do legitimately more than the vast majority of cis or trans adults, vandalised the NHS headquarters with bloody handprints and "release the trans suicide youth report" because they knew just from being trans kids that there was a massive spike that wasn't coming through in the numbers

TransActual and the Good Law Project have reported on the suicides quite extensively, doing FOIA requests and doggedly pursuing the people responsible who have repeatedly tried to cover it up with no real answers for even the incomplete data that could be accessed which disproved the claim of no rise in suicides. I don't remember which weeks it was now because it was so long ago but on Red Planet we've talked about this several times and keep an ongoing update on Wes Streeting's war on trans kids.

There has been extensive reporting in outlets even as liberal and wet as Pink News about clinic wait times, bolstered by the data accessing and reporting by QueerAF, WhatTheTrans and others.

Even Erin's article is largely just repeating what the Good Law Project's press release said. She hasn't done anything wrong there to be clear, it's just the lack of people broadly paying attention to this story has been a little frustrating is all. The UK getting treated like the 51st state is ingrained by reactionary political currents like the anti-trans movement and it needs to be called out very loudly especially when children are literally being killed by it.

I guess it would've been cool if more people believed the kids from TKDB and reported on it a lot sooner is all. I hope the links are helpful to people

Like there are so many things about this that are not just violent but insulting and dehumanising that will be easily forgotten if nobody is paying attention until it's a story deemed worthy of americans.

Wes Streeting indefinitely extended the ban on puberty blockers the day before what would have been Brianna Ghey's birthday. He was doing it in early November 2024 so that everyone would be too distracted with the US elections to care, and it worked. A sense of international shaming of Britain for being so transphobic was impossible because US elections sucked all the air out of the room

The relationship between the UK and US is actually a very core part of what is being done to us here and I don't want to leave that unsaid.

Jacket i dont wear cuz the weather is never right (it's too cold to wear in winter but its too hot for the rest of the year cuz i get too hot really quickly 😭)

Anyway, this started as just,,,, random project cuz i need sth to do. I had a hoodie i never wore cuz i didn't like how it looked on me, so i cut it open to make it a jacket. Roughly added some diy bias tape (made from old jeans). Hand sewn and it was the first time i'd done sth like that and i don't look uo how to do stuff so i winged it lmaoo. Decided to go for a star theme, kinda, so i added the star elbow patches first, because i have an ungodly amount of buttons i made a star out of buttons?? And then made a bunch of patches. the front feels a bit empty but when i wear the jacket you dont actually see much anyway. Might add soda can tabs tho, or chains. Jester cat patch was very fun to make, absolutely lovely, also the Off patches <333 love that game ughhh. The fag patch is a tiny pocket cuz i made embroidered cigarettes cuz i thought it would be funny but then never had motivation to sew them in lm1oo. Embroidered star in the ace flag colours <3 and the back patches teehee, the clown one has a real pompom. Grifters bone patch cuz TMA brainrot, also eyes. And teetg. Arguably anything can be a tma reference if you look at it hard enough lmao. Tumblr logo cuz that was the first patch i made and i wanted to see if ly technique would be fine. Gender is a performance patch came to me in a dream Lol. I wanna make more will wood patches i just have to find the motivation hha. Anyway, this was fun to work on, it's really comfy to wear. Great stuff
