i think we who live outside the us need to sometimes remember that learning about us history of racism and what is currently happening in that country doesn’t actually help us to dismantle racism in our own communities. we need to listen to people who face racism right here where we are, we need to give platform for immigrants, refugees and people from different ethnic backgrounds to speak up. the discussion about racism can’t be centred around the us and be spoken solely in English when no party involved is american or english speaking. there’s so many europeans who will speak so compassionately of black americans (=people they never have to interact with) and will show no empathy for Somalian refugees for example. we can’t just “self improve” out of racism by listening to americans and call it a day.
