R&R’s Parental Guidance is coming off superficial & unauthentic.
I was listening to Rose and Rosie’s Parental Guidance podcast episode four and I had to stop listening to it because the things they were complaining and worrying about are so superficial and it’s coming off as unauthentic. First off, when Rose discusses the baby, she always says, “him, her, or they.” I feel as if she has never really educated herself on people who don’t identify with he or she pronouns because it would be “them” in that context and it bothers me the way she keeps using it incorrectly as if she’s never used them/they pronouns in a sentence. I'm cisgender and straight and I know that in the context she’s using, it would be them, not they. (him/her/them & he/she/they)
Also, I understand the whole not putting a sexuality on your child but for Rose and Rosie to say they are going to wait until their child is old enough to consent in response to a onesie saying, “I love my two mommies” is this silliest thing I’ve ever heard. You’re waiting for them to consent to loving you? It’s one thing to put a “let’s get one thing straight, I’m not” article of clothing on a child that literally doesn’t know its name but what in the world is the harm in saying I love my two mommies and why would parents need a child’s consent to assume that they love them?
This is just an observation (my personal inferring), I’m not accusing them of any of this, nor calling them out. It’s just a bit put offish when listening because it sounds like they are trying too hard to be politically correct and it’s coming off unnatural.
I’m Not a Shawn Mendes or Camila Cabello fan BUT...
I have to say something because it seems like people aren’t getting it. And it really scares me how mean and cruel people are. I don’t really know much about the situation with Normani but I’ve seen the old tweets from Camila’s twitter AND Shawn’s and let me say a few things. you can’t possibly know a person because they are celebrity. You may know their birthdate, hometown, all the tattoos they have and their favorite meal, but you can’t and DON’T personally know them. Those are facts. You don’t know if Shawn or Camila or not racist. They could be a serial killer for all we know. Stop defending a celebrity’s actions because of the role they play in YOUR life. Just because you’re in love with a celebrity, attracted to them and convinced yourself that they can do no harm, doesn’t mean that you are in any shape or form right or can decide whether they are a good or bad person.
I’ve seen a person on twitter say “Shawn can’t be racist. Look at him! This is the opposite of racist” and it was a picture of him hugging a black fan. I mean...Jesus Christ. I didn’t realize people were this dense. You can be racist towards black people and have sex with a black person. You can be racist and be best friends with a black person. You can be racist and be in love with a black person. The two things aren’t mutually exclusive. Racism defies logic, so it’s not going to make sense.
Bullying and Racism in any form is wrong. I don’t agree with using “they were young and didn’t know any better” trope that people have used so many times to excuse the racist behavior of celebrities. I’m not sure of the age Camila and Shawn were when those tweets were made but I’m guessing they were teens. You are silly, in denial or racist yourself if you say they were young as a defense to racism. Racism has no positive connotation. So when someone says something that could be just 1% racist, it’s not coming from a place of warm heartedness. It’s just not. Yes, kids are stupid but I do not condone someone saying something racist simply because of their age and you shouldn’t either. They knew what they were saying, they knew while it was a joke, it could potentially hurt someone and I cannot and will not defend someone who thinks hurting a group of people could be funny.
