i like to think johnny is good at piano, and a lot of random rich kid instruments in general (and guitar bcs i think it’s cute) while gyro can sing pretty well bcs of having to do a lot with the church growing up

so imagine a scenario where they go to a random saloon and johnny hears some guy playing really shitty piano, muttering to himself “he’s not even playing it right…dumbass” gyro overhears and teases him “it’s not like you can do any better, amico” so perks up and makes it a bet, immediately making gyro less confident in his thought, but he always likes seeing johnny be confident, so he ultimately goes along with it

once the (probably drunk) guy stops, johnny makes his own way over, slides from his chair onto the designated seat, and starts playing a song he knows he’s good at (and can remember the keys for lol), it’s not the typical up beat saloon song, but everyone stops to just listen, bringing a quiet calm over the room

unknown to johnny, gyro is staring at him and smiling the whole time, wondering if they ever had a piano together in a more private place, if johnny would play again, just for him, and show the younger his voice to pair with the piano

the title is from paul simon’s ‘call me al.’ that song is very part 5 to me, but this particular lyric is my favorite and fits here very well.

apologies for the ending i seem to need to add a post canon scene with johnny and the coffin in every comic ive made so far.. this is also my trojan horse of sneaking interpretations of gyro and johnny’s individual complexities into lovey dovey slop.
