here’s how the season goes. i know this because i have personally watched it with my own eyes.
episode 1: arthur’s sick in bed with a cold. the knights have to go gather herbs for gaius. they take rotating shifts reading arthur bedtime stories and stroking his forehead, except for gwaine, who periodically sticks his head into arthur’s chamber just to laugh in his face.
episode 2: it’s merlin’s birthday. everyone goes to extreme lengths to one up each other in gift giving.
episode 3: epic quest episode, where they save a nearby village not technically under camelot’s rule, bc Percival has some friends there or something. idk. it’s all good hearted bravery and good deeds and they tell campfire stories.
episode 4: another quest. this time they have to all go swimming in a river because it’s really hot, okay? lancelot is the best swimmer and it makes arthur a bit angry and also a bit turned on. leon spends the whole time floating on his back pretending he can’t hear anything.
episode 5: gwaine’s day off! castle gossip, tavern scenes, maybe he knits. who knows. the boy deserves it.
episode 6: sir leon the long-suffering has to sit through a solid 5 minutes of merlin and arthur flirting during a council meeting and asks percival and elyan if they wanna just go hunt for fun. they do. it is a lot of fun and maybe they pet some bunny rabbits and have heart to hearts.
episode 7: elyan appreciation episode. just him doing a bunch of heroic shit and everyone cheering him on.
episode 8: bc of that one arthuriana post about lancelot and gawain, we have an episode inexplicably fraught with sexual tension between gwaine and lancelot. maybe they get into a friendly rivalry and the tension is palpable. leon is resigned to his fate
episode 9: they all watch a shadow puppet show bc this is the medieval era and they can’t go to a movie. there’s probably a monster of the week but that’s the highlight
episode 10: training episode. lots of them quarreling and fighting while merlin sighs in the distance, like that one deleted scene that never actually got filmed
episode 11: arthur trying, and failing spectacularly, to learn how to do some sort of hobby. maybe it’s the knitting we see gwaine doing. continuity.
episode 12 & 13: a two parter epic quest episode. they gotta go Real Far. there’s a lot of cuddling, a lot of bedtime stories about their youths, and secrets shared. someone gets badly hurt (merlin?) and the rest of the episode is spent tending to them, parallel to arthur in episode 1. so much trust is now between them. they are brothers in arms and in heart. maybe they all kiss on the mouth who’s to say
