Hey, so, I read your Lighthouse Bloom series and absolutely fell in love!
I really liked the handkerchovies' design (they are very cute) and even though they're just somewhere in the world I made species facts for them just for fun.
Their handkerchief is commonly used for mating and scaring off potential predators.
When mating they will flip their handkerchief over their head and back again, "waving" towards potential mates.
When alarmed their "handkerchief" flares up to make them appear several times larger than they actually are.
When they're born their handkerchief extends far past their bodies but as they age it grows far slower than the rest of them, averaging out to a bit before their tail.
When eaten their handkerchief is often cut off because of its bitter taste, however a semi-common dessert is to fry them and layer them with dewberry jam between the layers to cut the bitterness and to form a cake. It's considered an acquired taste.
Those with especially unique, complicated, or pretty patterning are sometimes kept as pets though they don't do well in captivity and it shortens their lifespan.
Also I'm terribly sorry if this is overstepping into your project, please tell me if it is
AAA OH MY GOSH?? THIS IS SO AWESOME???
Them doing the handkerchief "wave" as a dance is so clever, it being used for both that and a defensive mechanism makes so much sense!! FOODS AND CAPTIVITY TRAITS!!! FOODS AND CAPTIVITY TRAITS!!!!
And don't worry, it's not overstepping at all!! I want Lighthouse Bloom to "feel" as if it could be an actual game, which means you're 100% free to treat it like one; make headcanons for the characters, expand on the worldbuilding, create OCs and redesigns, shipping, etc etc...
You're free to do anything you want, 100% encouraged, even! Have fun!! Let's play with my tuoys. Together 🤝
So waking up to see this made my little heart incredibly happy, thank you so so much for enjoying my silly little project and taking the time to show me this!! I absolutely love this!!
