I’m wanting to do a Wizard101 themed DND campaign… But i’m wanting to either home brew classes or subclasses based on the schools (I haven’t found anyone that’s made it already) I’m wondering if it would be better to do the schools under a new class type or just a subclass under wizard…. input would be appreciated 😼

i think new classes could be pretty cool (although it might be more work)! some schools are kinda tankier so they could have larger hit die and other differences -ice school is kinda tanky and they could have cantrip shield spells and stuff? -fire school could have homebrewed damage over time spells, stuff like cloud of daggers except instead of based on one spot its targetted at someone! -storm school is interesting in terms of accuracy, it's not quite rolling at disadvantage so maybe like subtract a d4 or 2d4 from your roll to hit? and they would have a lower hit die. -balance is definitely support heavy, maybe kinda like a paladin? can do a decent amnt of everything (except heal) -myth is also interesting bcuz of minions, maybe you could run permanent minions that follow a character around rather than ones you only summon in combat? or you can keep the 'summon this guy, kill em for pips' stuff in w101. they kinda have medium dmg/health -for death school stuff you could lean into how warlocks are set up? to me they have the same vibe lol. and draining spells could be homebrewed i dont remember all the d&d spells off the top of my head (i usually play a fighter) -life school me when im a cleric

anyways these are just little tidbits of thoughts run whatever you would like and definitely post about it!! super cool idea i love w101 and dnd <33333333333333

Definitely much to think on but this is so helpful!!

i’m thinking with what I want it will barely be dnd anymore so it might turn into its own sort of ttrpg because I want to do stuff with the combat zone mechanics and having the spell cards be actual physical decks…

i’m wondering if i try to incorporate a card game element into it or if thats overkill 😭😭 i feel like at this point im mixing dnd mtg and wizard101

I also have to figure out which spells I want to start with because with all of the spells in w101 it isn’t feasible for me to transfer all of them on my own for one session when most of them won’t be used
