He Would Not Stay for Me
I was doing research for my fic, looking into A.E. Housman since he's popped up in a couple of fic (and, I think, Gale had a book of his poetry in his trunk). Tell me this poem doesn't sound like the Bucky yearning after Gale.
He would not stay for me, and who can wonder?
He would not stay for me to stand and gaze.
I shook his hand, and tore my heart in sunder,
And went with half my life about my ways.
--A.E Housman

So... What kind of cologne do we think Gale Cleven wears? It's clearly strong and distinct, whatever it is, but we're not given a scent profile.
I really want to see a MOTA fic where Marge writes Bucky for some reason early on, in addition to writing to Gale. And it quickly becomes clear that the Buckies are reading each others letters. She'll make a claim on Gale in a letter to Bucky that Gale refutes in his own reply. Or she'll suggest something to Gale and Bucky is the one who tells her how it goes. Pretty soon she's writing individual and collective letters back and forth during the war. They build intimacy with her and thus with each other. When they end up in the Stalag, she writes letters to both of them, a little about her own life of course but full of words to keep their spirits up. All throughout this there have been euphamisms and lots of extremely oblique acknowledgements of what she suspects they want from each other and from her, but also what she wants from them. She enourages them to take care of one another, phrasing it in a particular, careful, but completely innocent manner. I'm aching for an intimate slow-build punctuated by letters the Buckies exchange with Marge. And I imagine a happily ever after for the three of them.
There seems to be a tentative agreement in the MOTA fandom that Bucky is the 'werewolf character' and Gale is the 'vampire character'. Not gonna lie, it fits them well. Bucky with his instinctual hedonism/aggression and Gale with his iron control/otherworldly beauty. Although... I wonder what the inverse would be like.
Bucky said he 'didn't set it up right' and that's why he didn't get any letters. I wonder if the reason he didn't was was because, prior to the Stalag, he was content with what he had in his relationship with Gale. Perhaps, if they'd never met, Bucky might have put more effort into it?
Literally always take headphones with you. If you decide that you probably won't need them today, that's the devil talking. You will. You will
the most essential part of a fandom are those people who immediately tell you to write it, draw it, make it when you share your ideas, you have no idea how many fanworks are born just because someone encouraged it
another great way to make sure this continues is pressing the reblog button and going insane in the tags
immediately adding ‘fandom conga lines’ to my vocab
they're saying you actually need to open the document and write words in order to have something written...pls someone tell me that isn't true
The other night husband and I were watching a documentary about the yeti where they were doing DNA analysis of samples of supposed yeti fur, and every one of them came back as bears.
Anyway, the next night we watched a thing about some pig man who is supposed to live in Vermont. People said it had claws and a pig nose but walked upright like a man. Now, I happen to know that sideshows used to shave bears and present them as pig men. So every piece of evidence they gave of this monster sounds to me like a bear with mange.
So now the running joke in our house is that everything is bears. Aliens? Bears. Loch Ness monster? Bear. Every cryptozoological mystery is just a very crafty bear.
Bears. They’re everywhere. Be wary. Anyone or anything could be a bear.
oh shit
As the OP of this post, I’m going to threaten that if this gets to one million notes by the 10 year anniversary on 1 June 2026, one year from today, I will get a lower back tattoo of the loch ness bear monster.
hey guys get in the notes and start introducing yourselves. tell me your favorite songs one lyric at a time.
worst part about the Internet is knowing that there are finally people who both match and complement your freak. the nearest one is 2,318.4 miles away and your time zones are awkward

Fanfic writers, I am begging you- even with dialogue that is clearly attributed, start a new paragraph with each new speaker. The reader shouldn't have to wait until after the dialogue is spoken to understand who is saying it.
Even if it's one word?
Yes.
But it makes things so long!
Great! Your stories will be the king of scrolling, a feast of thumbs, and a gentle stroke across a phone screen.
This convention exists for a reason! Each new paragraph should be a new idea or a new speaker. It's a shortcut for our brains to know that we have jumped across a gap and into the unknown, and you as the writer are about to explain to me where we have jumped to, but at least I know we are somewhere different.
Please practice this! I see so many good fanfic I want to read but except for this huge, glaring issue and it becomes impossible to understand what is happening.
