THE ORDER

Godwyn devotees, praeficae are deathbed companions who have chosen a mostly secluded life to dedicate themselves to religious contemplation. Mostly, for it is when they leave their monastery that they do what they are best known for: ritual crying at funerals. When they are present they sob, they chant, they shake their bell-encircled wrists, to honor your departed, to be in pain with you, loud and true. Hurt begets compassion. THE REASON

The Lands Between hold the holy body of Godwyn, Prince of Death, slain but not killed, gone yet present. Praefica Lucia is in pilgrimage to witness it- and cry for him, for this land, for those times we live in, and cry for you, and cry for all you've hurt.

THE RULES

lucia's calling, speaking of which, is a very loose spin on the real job of praeficae, specifically the italian variant known as chiangimuerti.

shipping wise, all I can say is not illegal but difficult for sure!

...Well, then. Judgement she's no fan of, but staring she can handle. Alizebeth meets the woman's gaze, unflinching.

Amber to amber, then, stillness to stillness; until the praefica plucks the castanet-shaped instrument she uses to prick the back of her hand, and, closing it around her skin, does exactly so. She shivers, imperceptibly. Does shed some soundless tears. Makes a quick gesture, an almost-circle, to herself, and the instrument disappears in the folds of her robes.

Amber to amber again. A curious tilt to her bejeweled head, now, only just so.

She isn't judging. She is just looking at you.

"Can you sing for me? Just this once."

All are worthy and every soul is worthy; she weighs the statement against his request, measuring if the two do, in fact, align quite. Perhaps she has done her duty too long and this time has made her ability for levity, of most kinds, leaden to monument stillness.

"Hmm," begins the praefica, folding her hands in front of herself, lowering her eyelashes to stare, stare. "You ask for nothing strange, but..."

She has questions, is all, and she does because she doesn't think he's much different. He is not, as far as she's seen, a man of lightness. If anything for what little she's seen and known of him he resembles the sun in its strangling severity, less man, more scorching creature amber-hooved charging spear-sure in blinding relentlessness; she does not think he'd ask for song if there was not something leaden, something monument-still in him, to make him reach out so. But perhaps he does not and perhaps there are different reasons and perhaps she is being foolish to wonder in first place. After all; even the morning light wants for birdsong.

And all are worthy. All are worthy. He is requesting for no rite, but she cannot find a reason to deny him this request.

"...You shall have one song. Understand: I have not done any singing outside of what I must do for my duties in some time. I once knew ballads, but I don't do anymore. All I have is hymns. Will that suffice?"

// mind me, I do wish to do more things here with lucia (not that I've made a lot during this time regardless), but I'll admit I'm having some conflicting feelings- namely, I understand I made her in a time in which I felt like for various reasons heysel was stuck in a position in which interacting with others had become difficult, and I really also wanted to have fun like everybody else, so returning to the lab to cook up something new (based on something that interested me a lot!) was a good solution. and it did work; on one hand, working on a new character was a good exercise, and because this is an easier muse in countless ways- she is nicer, she is good looking, and you cannot imagine how much easier it is to find things like aesthetics and such for her- I did feel like some problems I'd met while writing heysel were here alleviated. but now I'm like. I don't know. it doesn't feel too good. I don't want to be like, oh you MUST write with my main muse first or perish a thousand deaths, but I guess I'd prefer it. mind me, I know things might simply not click between characters, and that's absolutely fine; but I think you can understand what I'm saying.

it's hard! I don't know how much I've written here makes sense. that being said, I do want to do more with her. in time!
