What Is Not There

I sat where the stars don’t rise, and named each one I could not see.

I called them all by softer names, In case they ever looked for me.

The wind passed by with out a sound

A hush so whole it split the air.

I whispered once— but made no plea

Just told the night that I was there.

Not brave, not bold, not blessed, not seen

Just standing where the stars don’t gleam.

And naming ghosts with gentle words,

I wonder now if they ever heard?

Delphi in the Stairwell

In the nightclub stairwell

in mortuary fluorescent light

in the echo there is a man.

He leans against the wall, cigarette with a long draw

He has gossamer hair,

His hat shadow brimmed

His eyes have never seen apathy.

The ashes of late nights

knock off his cigarette.

His posture allures,

Alludes

but his smile promises Red

Marlboro on rooftops,

Molotovs + bacchanal florals.

The party is out there, you know?

But I have never felt so seen,

under wine-dark gaze.

Unity in his isolation.

Prophecy curling

from the smoke at his lips.

The beat drops like aftershock.

He smiles

And the prophet of Delphi

breathed in clarity.

What divinity.

What promise.

From beneath that

wide-brimmed hat.

From a drifter

in forgotten corridors.

What power.

What freedom.
