Goro looked to the painting. “…What now, though.” He looked to me. “What will you do?”

“Not sure.” I looked to the painting. “…but I want to help somehow. This is being displayed as a Madarame piece. But that’s not true. Maybe convince him to take his art back? I don’t know… it’s just a shitty situation.”

“So, you’ll give up?” I looked to him again. There was a sweet, almost doe-eyed expression of curiosity.

I snorted. “Hell no. I’ll figure out a way to help him.”

“But why? He’s a stranger.”

I hesitated. But I could feel the words pressing on my throat, wanting to be said. “…because this world is already rotten. Even if it’s a useless, pathetic, small gesture of justice, I want to give it anyway.”

He looked at me, gaze unreadable. “…I see.” He continued to watch me, as if observing a complicated puzzle.

I shifted my weight to my left foot, tapping the tip of my toe of my right on the ground. “…wanna keep looking?”

He blinked before giving me that sweet, saccharine smile. “Sure. Lead the way.” I’m beginning to suspect that smile’s a fake as well…
