Incels and other sexist men can’t see a woman doing something incredible without fuming and trying to discredit her. They’re now dissing on Katie Bouman, who helped write one of the algorithms that got us the black hole picture, saying she was just an assistant (they don’t know what assistant professor is), and using Andrew Chael, her colleague in the Event Horizon Telescope team who helped write one of the codes, as ~the true person behind the codes who is being erased by this anti-men society~ or whatever. They’re even saying crap like “lmao women really don’t do shit”. Andrew took to Twitter himself to call bullshit on that.
If y'all can spread this thread to counter such narrative it’d be great.

"Correct.“ Dr. Eller said through his respirator. Dr. Eller’s mere presence at all was a very ominous sign. While the Trinity Corporation (subcontractor of the Centers for Disease Control) didn’t permit the official use of the term "Plague Doctor”, they did employ a small army of physicians, suspected to have been bred by the CDC to be impervious to most diseases, hunger, and cold- to systematically treat civilians in the case of an outbreak of a class X biological epidemic They preferred the term “Medical Containment Enforcement Officers” or MCEOs. Unfortunately treatment was generally incompatible with life.
"And everyone left?“ Allbright asked, "Just picked up and took off? Didn’t bother unplugging the coffee pot or anything?"
"Correct."
Dr. Allbright had been on vacation and today was their first day back. It was early in the morning and the streets had seemed unusually empty, but they hadn’t really thought much of it.
"I am just here to clear the building. I would advise you to stay with me, for your own safety."
It, of course, had nothing to do with the intense loneliness of his job. Dr. Death. Impervious to sickness but not without feelings, in spite of surgical attempts to suppress them.
"Clear the building of what?” they asked, “Just how bad is this mutation?"
"Well as you are aware, Q31 was intended to rapidly take control of the hosts body systems, all of them, and shut them down.”
"Yes" Dr. Allbright said with a huff, “Sixamians have a great deal of redundant vital structures and unusually robust regenerative abilities. What of it?”
"We’re not sure how… some suspected Dr. Link tampered-“
"Dr. Link? She was my research partner! What in the hell did she do?"
"Well if you would let me finish, they believe she tampered with it. We don’t know how. We don’t know why. No one has seen her since the day before the outbreak.”
"Ok, so she tampered with it, why is that so bad?“ Dr. Allbright snapped, still in disbelief that his partner could be so unethical, "Did it become airborne or something?"
"Well…” Plague Dr. Eller hesitated, “It is still quite lethal, but the fungus takes on a life of it’s own, so to speak. It uses the victim as a host. And it want’s to propagate it’s kind as much as possible. It almost has qualities of sentience. Patients become agitated and aggressive. It seems to be spread best from saliva to blood."

"Zombies!?" Allbright cried out, "Are you fucking kidding me?"
"I never used that term, Doctor." P. Dr. Eller said with flat irritation.
"Don't shoot the messenger, Allbright." Eller sighed, "Come on, there are still some weapons in the armory, it's probably best that we don't stay here, too much of an exposure risk."
But where to go? They headed into town, there were few signs of life and every stirring, every rustling of leaves brought fear and suspicion. The Library seems like a safe, neutral space. Eller softly ascended the stairs.
Piper had been holed up in the town library attic for a couple of days. There wasn't much in the way of food, and the water recently stopped working. She knew she couldn't stay long. Still, as long as she was quiet she didn't seem to draw attention. Though she had a vantage point of the town square that was both illuminating and terrifying.
But she heard footsteps. And before her heart had a chance to skip a beat she saw a masked man in tall rubber boots and long rubber gloves and a long coat.
"Why you don't seem ill at all!" he said cheerfully. "Though under order of the federal government you will now be subjected to a series of rigorous medical examinations and tests. Please disrobe and remove all jewelry. "
"Like hell I will, perv!" she sneered in his face. "Do I look like one of them? Do I sound like one of them? Do you see any bite marks?"
"You could easily be concealing bites under your clothing, at the very least I need to check your skin. This isn't fun for me either"
He paused, he really didn't enjoy this part at all but it was just part of the job. The only job he had ever had in his life. The job he had had for his entire life.
"I should mention that I am armed. According to CDC regulations any non-compliant civilians are to be assumed to be infected and I, as an MCEO am granted the authority to use whatever force necessary to contain the infected individual."
Piper took off her clothes and they both cringe and wince as she had to twirl and lift her arms and legs and breasts to make sure there were no suspicious marks to be found.
After an awkward but sincere apology from the Plague Doctor, and a bit of comforting and a poorly executed pep-talk from Dr. Allbright, they convinced Piper to come with them. After all, she was running out of resources where she was and was all alone, no weapons or water.
They weren't quite sure where to head, but they knew Strangerville was likely a bad place to stay. Piper was the first uninfected they'd found since they had ventured out. After some discussion, they decided on San Myshuno. Though the population was more dense, there could be more available resources, more survivors, and better places to hide out. It was just a matter of getting out of town.
Eller threw a shotgun to Piper. She seemed terrified of it, but he told her to just point and shoot. Dr. Allbright was confident with their weapon but less confident in their ability to cause so much human gore. Especially when their mind was reeling with ideas of how to fix this. Why? Why would Dr. Link ever do something like this?
The crowd wasn't extremely dense, but it was dense enough to create problems. A man in a disco suit latched onto Piper but she pushed him off and made the kill. And then stood there, shell shocked and shaking like a revolution
Eventually it was time to just run. Some of them were fast, but mostly they were like stumbling drunks at a wine festival.
On the road to leave town Dr. Allbright looked back and saw some familiar faces from the lab. They didn't seem totally gone yet but he knew it was too late. He couldn't help. Not now.
San Myshuno seemed mostly empty. There were infected around but they seemed to stick together in isolated pockets. A lot of people had evacuated but there were plenty just going about their routine, pretending nothing was happening. After all, if you pretend it isn't there, it isn't really there, right?
They all decided to stop in at a bar. Some glowy ethereal place with soft silver fabrics and drinks with dry ice. Eating in a gas mask is something of a task but if anyone could do it, it was P.Dr. Eller. The redhead scooted away from the good plague doctor and cozied in next to Dr. Allbright.
"Hey big boy, you might have a fun night if you buy me a drink or two."
"I'm not a boy and I think I might have more fun with my chips and beer. But thanks." they said with a smile and a nod.
She scoffed and went to a different seat.
Dr. Allbright really wasn't exactly a "boy". Male nor female. Neither were they intersex.
For over a hundred years or so, Earth had been having a problem with an invasive species. A highly intelligent invasive species who wanted earth for it's own. They would attack in waves, not with guns or bombs or disease. No, they would abduct humans and forcibly impregnate them and then return them home. They would do on a very large scale. These children were everywhere. And when they came of age, they, too, would generally be abducted, impregnated, and sent home.
This species is known as Sixamians. They are trisexed. When mating, the father deposits the sperm and the mother deposits the egg into a progenitor who provides a third component of DNA via the fibrous fluids necessary for gestation.
Since humans are not configured this way, males are more idea for pregnancy of Sixamian fetuses due to their internal physiology and hormonal makeup. The male abduction victims are also surgically altered to facilitate birth. The entire process is extremely invasive and traumatic. Abortion is difficult because of safeguards the Sixamian doctors put into place. You kill the fetus, you kill the father. Because of this intense amount of trauma, most of the offspring from these pregnancies are not kept by the biological parent.
A large percentage of these births are of progenitors so that future pregnancies may go more smoothly and require less surgical intervention as they do with the make human pregnancies.
There is now a social services system flooded with these one third human children. They are prone to a great deal of abuse and neglect. A few lucky ones are adopted but it's rare. Some countries have opted to euthanizing them at birth.
Dr. Allbright was one of these children. And the third sex children tended to have an especially hard time. They were raised in a government home. In exchange for safety and food and toys, they were medically monitored and researched. Upon adulthood, the only avenue for education and work was through the Department of Exobiological Research. Eventually they changed branches to the CDC.
Dr. Eller took a step outside and noticed a group of terminal operators on strike. It seemed so ubsurd considering the circumstances. Had they no idea what was happening around them? Naturally he picked up a sign and started marching and shouting with him. He had never been a terminal operator. Or anything other than an an employee of the CDC.
While no one was paying attention they weaved in.
Then it happened. The fun was ruined and someone got bitten. Panic ensued. At first the strikers seemed to think it was some kind of dramatic performance art but reality kicked in quickly.
In a moment of unusual shock, Dr. Allbright noticed something strange. A cat eating the flesh from the throat of a recently fallen individual. The animal testing had been limited. They had mostly stuck with humans and Sixamians.
Dr. Eller was too busy getting his job done.
Eller doesn't want to enjoy what he does. He finds it repulsive. But he gets giddy as if he gets shot up with a drug every time he neutralizes someone. That happy, sick, disgusted, ecstatic feeling. Just like when he was in training.
Piper was in a dissociative dreamland. She stared at a fallen infected reaching up at her, through the lens of a scientist observing a rare butterfly. Perhaps a bit too unaware of the danger she was in.
P. Dr. Eller Gathered everyone around to make a plan. There were some strangers, people other than he, Allbright, and Piper. And the strangers weren't keen on taking advice from the guy with the gasmask and the black coat and the shotgun.
"I think we need to find some less violent solutions". one said.
"Why should we take orders from a government shill, you're the ones who started all of this to begin with" said another.
Suffice it to say, they parted ways. Eller, Allbright, and Piper banded together and stayed alert.
They wanted high ground. Perhaps a building with a reservoir of water. A lot of the city had already lost power, but not everywhere. There would be plenty of abandoned apartments thanks to the evacuation orders. Some of them may still have food.
The found the perfect apartment, totally abandoned! Flush with food and still had running water and electricity. Except- it wasn't abandoned. And One Wren Palmer was less than excited to find three rather menacing strangers standing in their living room.
Wren was a progenitor like Allbright. "Lucky" enough to be adopted by a family instead of raised on a government farm. It seemed they were everywhere. Not that Wren's upbringing was one of happiness and warmth.
Until a few days ago Wren was a writer. Not a very practical way to make a living they supposed, but it was certainly useless now. They didn't know exactly what was happened. They had barricaded the doors, but apparently not well enough because there stood Eller, Allbright, and Piper.
The trio made themselves at home. Wren didn't really feel like the had any choice but to let them. They had a lot of guns and the one with the mask and the coat seemed frightening. He said something about making them strip down and taking their blood, but for the moment they were avoiding that.
"I need to find Dr. Link." Dr. Allbright said after a shot of whiskey nervously offered by Wren.
P. Dr. Eller frowned behind his mask "biological warfare never really pays off, does it?"
“Cats don’t comfort you when you’re feeling down.”
What a load of crap !!! One thing for certain… cats don’t give a rat’s ass what B.S. you tell about them. They refuse to care less, either about what you think of them, or about the people they love.
“Cats don’t miss you when you’re gone” is a ton of bs. Whenever I leave to go anywhere, I can hear my cats meowing at the door within moments trying to find me. They sit in the window watching for me to come home and they are at the door to greet me almost every single time.
Cats also grieve.
This cat watches a video of their owner who had passed away and he tries to cuddle up with the phone. The look on his face when they zoom in on him brings me to tears every time.
One of our cats comes and sleeps next to me when he sees that I’m not feeling well. If he’s in the kitchen when I come down for food with cramps or with a cold, he’ll follow me back upstairs and lay down on me and purr.
Cats are aloof animals who don’t put up with nonsense, will defend their boundaries with claws, and sometimes like to push things down to see what happens, but they aren’t jerks.
I’m considering starting an Asylum-style challenge in The Sims 4, but I want to give it a unique spin and try to remove some of the ‘mental asylum’ themes that run through the challenge. I’ve come up with three different options - each of which has a different backstory and routes for character development - so I would love to hear which one you all think I should progress.
A group of elder Sims who have just moved into their new home and feel like their lives are really starting to slow down. ‘The hell with that!’ It’s time to set a new aspiration and try to live life to the fullest… there’s still plenty of life to be lived yet!
