Clara Montgomery comes from a very troubled childhood in Rio del Mar, California. Her parents barely made ends meet, with both always at work, leaving Clara to watch her younger sister, Rebecca. Being the eldest, she often was the one her parents took financial frustrations out on, but it wasn't until she was older that she began to push back, which only added fuel to the fire. She began to rebel more once she hit her teenage years, sneaking out in the middle of the night to go to dive bars, even losing her virginity at fifteen in some dingy bar bathroom. The rebellious streak bled into her schoolwork; despite being intelligent and loving to lose herself in books, Clara began to care less and less, barely graduating.
The fights with her parents only got worse though, as word began to go around about how promiscuous she was, despite it not being fully the truth, as well as her grades and barely graduating. Her father said he wished she hadn't ever been born. her mother called her useless. It wasn't until the night of her eighteenth birthday, though, that she had had enough; after she had gotten home late, resulting in a heated fight with her mother in the kitchen, and a butcher knife. So, after that, she packed a bag, promised her sister she'd stay in contact, and left without another word, just a ring on her right hand as a final memory. After spending the next two years as a runaway, Clara sold her time and body for money, until one instance that nearly resulted in her becoming another statistic got her to Santa Carla. seeking refuge with other homeless runaways and vagabonds at a shelter run by the church, Clara found herself drawn to the boardwalk and the ocean.
Catching the eye of the leader of the Lost Boys, she didn’t care about the warning to stay away from them, resulting in her being kicked out from the shelter, where David found her sleeping under the pier one night. Introducing her as “Star”, a nickname he admitted came about as he thought she was more beautiful than any star above. It had only taken two nights of her staying in the sunken hotel to be offered a bottle of red wine that tasted much too sweet, only to be told the truth until it was too late. Within mere weeks, Paul had found Laddie, a little boy who had run from his foster family and was digging in trash for something to eat. One night, when the Boys were out hunting and Star and Laddie were left alone, she heard him getting into things a ten year-old shouldn’t, only to find him making a face of disgust as he pushed an ornate wine bottle back where he found it.
In the wake of the night at the Emerson home, the Boys buried in shallow graves on the vast property, things returned to normal for the first few months. It was only when running water in the new home felt scalding hot, and the daytime exhausted her (and Laddie), that Star began to worry perhaps things weren’t what they seemed. David and the Boys were indeed still ‘alive’, healing over the months and months, and with the blond as her Sire, their connection still remained, and with Laddie experiencing the same symptoms as her, Star knew they couldn’t stay. So, the runaway she became again, taking Laddie in tow, seeking refuge in a motel with a story she made up about escaping with her little brother. Laddie returned one early morning covered in blood, in hysterics, and Star knew what she had to do, fully turning with her own first kill the following night one warm summer in 1988.
Since then, she’s returned with Laddie to the Lost Boys, water under the bridge decades ago, though if you ask Marko, he would have preferred David had killed her for betraying them.
