Day 100 | Flippers 2

Yesterday’s movement brought me back to my flipper code from day 024. It feels weird to post something I don’t particularly like on day 100. But in some way, it’s the perfect ending to my 100 days practice, as this practice has been, above all, a lesson in accepting imperfection.

Day 099 | Toe to Head

It seems fitting that my last day of aerial for this project is the same day of the interim showing for the Go! Emerging Artist grant that I have been training back up for. I meant to record and post from that performance earlier today, but completely forgot in the bustle, so I did a short silks session at home tonight.

Day 098 | Verlet, Again

If I were to do another 100 days project, I might do 100 days of verlet. The breaking in yesterday’s movement got me back to it, and it reminded me how much I enjoy working with it.

Day 097 | Oops

Throughout this practice I’ve been finding that more and more I just do little things I’ve never done before. Today I was doing a key over into a drop I’ve done so many times, and got overzealous about it, and sorta fell out, then caught it and keyed it over. I kinda like it as a little way to add some extra dynamic movement to this wrap. Posting it now so I can remember to go back and play with it/clean it up.

Day 096 | Triangles

Yesterday’s sailboat brought me back to the cellular automata code from day 090. I spent a while working with it, and just wasn’t getting anywhere. Friday burnout maybe? So, I did a super simple sketch playing with random triangles. Don’t love it, but moving on.

Day 095 | When Things Fall Apart

Forgot to put on my turltleneck today. Splits still aren’t looking that great. But I love the way this piece rebuilds in reverse.

Day 094 | Consistency

Yesterday’s inversions brought me back to my first day of code—springs. The initial movement of this sketch was much more literal—up, down, up, down, and so on. But this variation felt much more linked to the repetitive motion of the inversions. In some way they both feel like they have a consistency, or steady rhythm. Much like a heartbeat.

Day 090 | Structure

Yesterday I was toe climbing to a split that looks like a triangle. Thinking about this made me notice all the triangles in this climb. What a stark difference from my loopy polar rose days.

There’s this moment when I swivel around the rope where I hit resistance, I feel like I might stop, then the momentum kicks back up again and lifts me up.

Day 084 | Rag Doll

The end of yesterday’s sequence got me thinking of rag doll physics. I found a great ragdoll example to play with. As I started working with it, I was surprised to see how much the result reminded me of my earlier threads and verlet blob code. In the end I don’t love this sketch, but I do like the way it flashes and fades to nothing. In some way it reminded me of Roman Opalka.
