// midnight memories {kn&yh}
@mpxhana
Days like today didn’t normally occur for the young female… any other day she could cure the metaphorically grey cloud hanging over her head without any problem. Weed was magical like that. Although today she couldn’t smoke. She had done her last bowl a day ago, and it would be a week until she was paid again.
Nana was bored.
Spending a day alone was fine and all, but it was so much more boring without weed. As she smoked the second to last cigarette that was in the box, she walked about the empty spaces of her apartment. The reddish-orange glow of the neon sign in her living room was the only thing that gave light to the otherwise dark room. As she took a puff on the cigarette burning red embers fell onto the carpet under Nana’s feet. The girl’s mind wanders back and forth between various topics of no utter importance. As if in a flash, the best idea came into Nana’s sporadic mind. “Hana!” The girl squealed with excitement.
It took about a total of five minutes for the girl to leave her house and about another five minutes for Nana to speed walk over to the other girl’s apartment. As she walks down the hall of the apartment, she reads the numbers upon the doors of the apartments until she reaches the only one that sparked a memory within the girl’s mind. She pulled her hand from out of her pocket and knocked on the wooden door with a few overly excited thuds.
It was close to 1 a.m. but Nana ignored any thought to be quite as she yelled while still knocking on the door, “Hey! Its Nana let me in!”

"I'll have you know that it kills to love somebody, and know that they're never going to love you back."
Static of the television fills the room with light and sound, a soft snore came from the lips of the lanky girl who was sprawled out on the couch. Nana had had a long day, a private party had booked out the roller rink for the entire day and Nana was the only host. So there she lay, taking the sleep she much needed.
This utter bliss was interrupted when her phone that was still being held in her hand buzzed. Heavy eyes slowly opened to see the overly bright screen riddled with texts. “what the fuck?” She hoarsely whispered and unlocked her phone. The extremely bright screen made the girl wince as she brought the phone closer to her face, her eyes slowly adjust and she is able to read the string of texts from a number that she had never seen. It was clear whoever sent these were either drunk or completely delusional.
• ( ✉ → sms ) : um hey... i think you got the wrong number
• ( ✉ → sms ) : yea that kinda sucks buddy...
• ( ✉ → sms ) : good luck with that 😬 👍
"You always make things way harder than they have to be."
Rows and rows of books filled the large room from almost corner to corner. Nestled towards the back of the labyrinth that one can call a library sat Nana, books sprawled out on a small table. One hand rests on her cheek, propping up her head while the other holds a pencil. In a soft whisper, Nana attempted to explain a formula from calculus, writing the formula down onto the open notebook that was in front of Seulgi. The words that the other girl spoke invoked a laugh that was barely quiet enough to belong in a library. Nana couldn’t help but feel overly embarrassed when a small blush spreads across her face.
“How do I make this difficult? It’s just a simple formula,” Nana said with another giggle… if you can call the odd, small laugh the girl made a giggle. Nana swept her hair behind her ear and straightened up from her hunched position. “So, what magic do you use to make it easier than this?” Nana whispered with a small smile.

A grey haze followed by a slight buzz covered the blank slate the mind of Nana Komatsu. Each step the girl took was equally met with a wobble to stay upright. Alcohol was fun on its own, but she got bored of sitting alone in her apartment. About thirty minutes ago she decided to take her day-drunk self out for a walk. Although it was close to dinner time, it was still much too early for anyone to be a buzzed as she was. Nonetheless, she giggled to herself and walked down the streets.
It was as she passed the building of a pet store that an overwhelming joy came over her visage. In an almost cartoonish manner, she quickly whipped back around and tipsily walked through the door. The building was warmer than the cold air outdoors, and as she basked in the sudden warmth she noticed something devastating in the corner of her eye. “oh... my god,” she whispered to herself and rushed over to the terrariums that lined a wall. Nana was in a state that was too discoherent to properly count the number of snakes, but she estimated that about 20 were trapped within the confines of a glass prison. “my angels...” she said with a slight whimper putting her hand and cheek against the glass.
Back and forth she talked to the snakes. While they were content with their environment and told the girl that they had all their needs met, Nana just wouldn’t have it. “I am going to get you out of here” she whispered with her cheek still to the glass of the tank. Without another irrational thought, the girl lifted the lid to the terrarium, and carefully put her hand in front of a ball python that was closest to her. The snake willingly wrapped itself around the hand and wrist of the girl. Nana took her hand slowly out of the tank and allowed the snake to slither into her purse that hung from her shoulder. The other snakes began to talk to her- no began to warn her of something that was watching.
Honestly, Nana couldn’t care less. She reached her hand back into the tank and grabbed another snake, this time brought it to her the large pocket of her parka. “come on get in!” Nana begged the snake that was reluctant to enter her pocket.

A string of curses escaped in a jumbled mess as Nana throws on her uniform for work. She was going to be late for work... for the second day in the row. With the clock reading 2:36, Nana had less than 25 minutes to get dressed and get to work which was about a 20-minute walk. Slinging her bag over her shoulder, she slams the door to her apartment and tumbled her keys between her hands before she found the key to lock her door. Barely before the key was taken out of the door Nana was practically running down the stairs.
Her lungs felt tight and sore with every quick step she took, smoking a pack a day doesn’t make you have the best endurance to sprint down three flights of stairs. When she reached the bottom floor she was completely worn out. She struggled for each breath as she ran to the front door of her apartment complex. It was when she opened the door that she saw an unusual sight. A man was sprawled out on the ground at the end of the stairs to her apartment. The girl tried to stifle a hoarse laugh as she slowly walked passed the man, “What a mess” she whispered to herself.
It was as she began to walk away that pang of guilt stuck Nana’s heart. “Fuck!” she cursed to herself before she turned to the man still on the concrete.
“Hey, buddy...” She said softly kicking the man in the leg. Seconds ticked by and still, nothing happened. “Okay man, listen you have to wake up!” She said a little louder and slapping him on the shoulder. “Ughh come on man!!!” she begged, shaking him. Nana claimed that it was guilt that kept her from leaving the man, but honestly what is a better excuse for being late than being a good Samaritan?
"Do you know how much sleep I've lost over you?"
It was a knock on the door that brought Nana out of her trance-like state. She was still completely disorientated and the room around spun and shook with each step she took. She reached her hand out to the knob of her front door missing it three times before she finally was able to grab ahold of it. Her body felt numb, but there was a sharp yet melodic thrumming in her head. A feeling that the girl had not felt in such a long time.
She opened the door with an overly zealous swing causing her to stumble and grab ahold of the doorframe. The face in front of her was all too familiar, Shiah. The words that she said barely were coherent… ‘sleep… lost… you?’
Like a child, Nana rolled her eyes and slank over towards the couch where she plopped on to it resting her head on the armrest. “I don’t know why you would even care… worry about me?” Nana said with a slight smile moving her hand to grab a long white pill from the coffee table. “I got everything I need here,” she said with a hollow laugh. She opened her mouth and set the pill on her tongue. letting it dissolve slightly before she finally swallowing it dry. “i-i’m fine…” she said; the words coming out in a jumbled, slurred mess.
// blaze it {open}
High. Stoned. Baked.
Nana wanted nothing more at the moment than to be higher than a kite. As the seconds lethargically turned into minutes the girl became more and more restless. Short nails methodically tap to an unknown tune onto the glass countertop which she had stood at for long over four hours. She wanted nothing more than to sit the fuck down and just have a smoke.
After the remaining hour of her shift passes, the girl clocked out. Nana grabbed her bag from the employee room and pushed through the door to the back alleyway. The crisp, frigid night air chilled the girl to the core. With shaky hands, she sat her backpack on the top of the closed dumpster and pulled out her hoodie and clumsily put it on. Once the hoodie covered her torso she pulled her backpack onto her shoulder with one hand and the other hand fished out her pack of cigarettes from her pocket.
As she walked down the alleyway back towards her apartment she took out her lighter and lit the cigarette that was between her fingers. The cigarette was just a temporary device to hold her until she could get to her weed. After her 30-minute walk back to her apartment she practically sprinted to her door and unlocked it. The warmth of her apartment was almost enough to make her not want to go back outside but the need for a high greatly outweighed the cold. She pocketed a glass jar full of weed and a pipe and walked back out of the door, not bothering to lock it.
Her favorite place to smoke was on the steps of the emergency stairwell within her apartment complex. It wasn’t the warmest place, but at least it wasn’t directly sitting outside and from all the times that she smoked here nobody had every interrupted her.
That was until today.
She was taking a long puff on the pink glass pipe, letting the smoke fill her lungs and the high slowly take over her mind as the loud creaking sound of the door to the stairwell opened. “shit... shit shti!” she said letting out the smoke with a cough. She stuffed the weed along with the pipe behind her and began to wildly wave her arms around in a means to clear the smoke from the air. As the footsteps began to descend the stairs, Nana realized that she had already been caught... the smell of weed would have been apparent the second the door was opened. With that thought, she pulled back out her pipe, lit it, and took another long drag. As she exhaled the smoke she lifted the pipe towards the person who she assumed was right beside her by now and said, “wanna hit?”
