Major Reasons to Love MPLS QoS
Even though it looks like some kind of alien language, MPLS QoS can be a major asset to your business.
But before we talk about that, we need to talk about exactly what MPLS QoS is.
It's actually an abbreviation for the quality of service you can get on an MPLS Ethernet network. It affects the way data travels along your network -- specifically, it allows some types of data to take a more direct route, while other, less important types of data get stuck at additional hops or get stuck taking a more round-about route.
An easy way to envision it is your rush hour commute. If you're whizzing by in the carpool lane or if you've got a police escort, you're one of the preferred drivers. If you're stuck sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic with everyone else, you're a little less important.
OK, now that you know what MPLS QoS is, why should you love it?
It's easy to set up
MPLS QoS isn't meant solely for the tech-whizzes. Instead, it's easy for anyone to use. All you need to do is access a special menu in your MPLS network settings and check off the data categories that are most important. Once you do, your network will follow all of your rules without any further input.
It's completely up to you
There is no "right" way to prioritize your data. No matter what data is most important to your business, MPLS QoS can handle it. You'll have complete freedom to pick the settings that are perfect for you.
It's especially-awesome for voice and video
If you're sick of voice streams that keep cutting out or video streams that jump all over the place, you will adore MPLS provider! By checking off the video and voice data boxes in your settings, those real-time streams will get the "police escort" out on your network. Because they're no longer "stuck in traffic", they'll come in a whole lot more clear.
In fact, lots of businesses are using MPLS QoS to start teleconferencing. That way, they can avoid costly plane trips and expensive tanks of gas and just meet virtually!
It's easy to change
If you ever want to update your MPLS QoS settings, it's easy to do. All you have to do is go back into that special menu and check different boxes. Like the original setup, your network will instantly start following the rules!
