Should I have a online store too...eventhough I have a retail store?
Many retail owners are caught up in the day to day operations of their business. Therefore, most or some of the more productive tasks they avoid such as marketing for new customers and enhancing the current customer journey.
Owning a retail store is not a easy business. There are fixed cost on a monthly basis to running this business. So, with that said, you want to make sure your taking advantage of the space you have. While this post is not about retail location from a real estate perspective, which I think is important, it is about determining whether you should have both(online & retail) or not. If you read the previous post, you know there are usually three steps a customer takes before making a physical purchase.
I know you maybe asking yourself, why do I need an online store when I have allow of my inventory in the store. Good question. For a moment, you need to take a step into the customer shoes and ask yourself these questions.
Does this retailer offer me the convenience of making a purchase online if I don't want to make a trip to the location or can't for whatever reason?
Do they offer the same products online as in-store?
Is there a way for me to get the product after store hours?
Just by asking yourself these 3 questions should give you an idea of the potential profit you maybe missing especially if you don't have a online store. I hear you, you may also be saying, well I already sell my products online but I don't see the value of having it. Click here if you would like to get your online store to start seeing profit.
Now these are some reasons why you should get an online store if you are a retail store owner.
First one, you can identify with the three questions above. Secondly, you have past due(longer than 45 days) inventory. Thirdly, you want to introduce a new product and/or target a new customer demographic.
Ecommerce Marketing: How your store should look
In today's society, many people and businesses are trying to market their products and brands online. With that effort comes a few challenges that they must overcome in order to even compete;that is sufficient traffic, product branding and consumer conversion.
Many online store owners think that they can just put any type of website up on the internet and just think people will come and buy without any effort on their part as it relates to the first 2 challenges. While it is not my goal to cover the first two in this post, it is my goal in this post to cover the effectiveness of the right display in order for customers to convert.
Many consumers are doing what I call the 3 strike-out method. What I mean by that is:
Product
Provider
Price
These three process are evaluated every time a consumer chooses to buy something online or in-store.
Many of them start their search for the product or service online. More specifically, via a mobile phone or tablet. If your store is not mobile, you are behind already.
The picture above is an example of one of the most populated retailers in the world, WALMART. I took a screenshot on my blackberry to show you that if they are investing in mobile, you should too.

Legal Marketing for Lawyers Part 2
Once you get an understanding of your competition and what your primary practice will be, then you can market effectively as a lawyer. The next thing for you to do is find out where your target customer is. Im not talking about geographic location, eventhough that is a part of targeting. For now, Im talking about hangout spots. Whether it be online or offline, you need to have an idea of their regular patterns. Because most all people have a smartphone these days, you can get an idea of what their regular spots are online. Social Media research is important for determining this when online. Social media is a social platform but it doesn't give you broader perspective of your target audience. For example, if I talked to a restaurant owner about who their target customer is and he/she said every one that is hunger. Im sorry, that is not specific enough. As a restaurant owner, they would have a very expensive marketing budget. You as a lawyer, you must get specific as possible. I know your think, how do I do that when the need as not been expressed. Marketing for lawyers more challenging than ever before. With statistics for law school graduates skyrocketing every year, the supply for legal advice has never been greater. With that said, most new graduates are finding it difficult to finding quality positions upon graduation. Therefore, some are taking matters into their own hands and starting their own firms. With the brave decision to start your own practice comes the challenge of marketing your skills. The first thing any lawyer must do to in order to market effectively is to get a good gauge on the local competition. Of course, that is after determining which area of law you want to focus on. Reason being, marketing a general practice is harder and more expensive. It can be done, but I would suggest that you NOT expect any major conversions. The photo above gives a good example of what most lawyers are doing. They are hoping that someone chooses them out of 1,000 lawyers that do the same thing. Split Test: Should You Use A Photo For Your Background?
A customer of ours recently asked they should use a photo background on their Megaphone page rather than a blank background, to maximize conversions.
