So I started planting some veggies
And by the miracle of life they took.
I've been hooked ever since.
Here are my findings
Listen I’m not saying that *I* have the balls to buy a reflective vest and go off on a roadside or retention pond somewhere and start fucking around guerrilla gardening
But I am saying that the past week I’ve driven past many MANY people in reflective vests either doing roadwork or maintaining roadside shrubbery or whatever and the amount of times I considered questioning what the fuck they were doing is zero and the amount of times I would’ve even had the TIME to question what the fuck they were doing is zero
I saw groups of people I saw someone solo I didn’t question it I just figured ‘eh they’re doing SOMETHING and carried on. Depending on the location you pick, anyone who WOULD Karen up and interrogate you won’t even have the time space or ability to
Checking in on the butternut ... This from a couple days a ago....last week, maybe week before, it started flowering. Every other day or so there is a new flower, but the flowers dnt last longer than a day. Have yet to see what Google has to say about this.
I hope it's getting pollinated tho... I do see the regular bug crawling in and out....
OMFG, this.
Bro, 95% of the vegetation in this box died.
Mostly due to the heatwave we were going through most of this summer. For bout 2 weeks we had days exceeding 35°C....everything suffered.
Lemme find a more recent pic
Insert crying emoji....had to go take a pic now. It looked so sad I even stopped taking pictures of it.
I fashioned it a net to cover for very hot days, But one day I forgot to cover it and I came home to a massacre - that also did not help much....
Lessons learnt : location location location.
I'm in a semi desert area, so weather is harsh, whatever it is. While the butternuts were growing I was constantly sowing different seeds to the box. Just to see how they fare in the extreme heat: direct sun, at least 11hours hours a day. 30° by 10am...
It was an experiment Im glad I had control over.
Planted some beans between my chillies
Forgot to water this box for a couple days and it was a heat wave, all of the chillies in the pink box died. The beans (which are actually quite hardy once they've acclimatised to the weather) just barely survived. Think I have a picture of what they look like now lemme find it
This is what survived the heat wave and my negligence; 4 bean, 1 chillie.
Now that th season has changed and cooler weather is approaching I moved it into full sun, and also planted some more chillies and peppers (chillies and peppers produce a lot seeds) in this box.
The other box fared way better. I think I posted a picture of what that box looks like; but just incase
5 beans that are fruiting at this moment. This is officially my first fruit. Very excited. In this box I also scattered some chard, beans and tomatoes.
Okay, lemme interject; this is not recommended at all. But we'll get into that on a separate post all together.
Anyway.
Chard didn't grow. Only the tomatoes that got sun grew. The beans are fine. As you can see. They make a lot of shade with their big leaves.
Finished my planter boxes today. Check out the woodwork page for more info on that.
Anyhow. Change of season. Temperature has dropped. Extreme hot weather is done.
Planted some chillies (they did not grow well in the heat, trying again ), butternut (only showed progress on cool days) and peppers.
Here and there I have some cannabis growing. But I'll focus on that after I can get an actual fruit to grow.
Making progress with the beans. They are growing well. Week or so and I will harvest.
Here's to the next few months of tending to my backyard garden
Planted some beans awhile ago, they grow very fast.
This is the second and third batch.
The first batch died of heat, the second batch didn't get enough sun. Eventually I found a nice place that was more early-morning and late-afternoon sun orientated.
Saw the flowers sprouting at the end of last week, and boom, three days later i saw them apples chilling about.
This is officially the first fruit I've grown. According to law it needs to be donated so that the next harvest may be bountiful. Amen.
Very excited.
Also check out my woodworking page as I've been busy making more planter boxes for the new season. Woohoo

god brussel sprouts are so goated. how the hell did they get known as the nasty vegetable
bring hans over here right now so that i may suck him up sloppy
some people will say "no you wouldn't" but i just know i would have invented domesticating crops pretty much straight away. plant some seeds in one spot so i don't have to forage next year. basically a no brainer.
It's literally that simple, guys.
Over the span of 5 days
Planted some beans between my chillies
This lil guy grew in the shade.
I made it a lil box and dug it out to place in the full sun.
Boy did it suffer. Immediately it looked all droopey and sad, after a couple days some leaves started wilting and I really got concerned.
However, I noted that the stem never looked like it was dead)dying....it was just looking tired. Like it was not used to the sun.
In addition, a praying mantis started praying on the leaves...
But then...after a week of braving the sun this is what it looked like; it wasn't growing taller- it was growing new leaves.
People were commenting that I have green fingers....
Yeah, no, this died so horribly

This little piece of land has taken the strain of my mental health for the longest part of six years ....
It went through so many changes with me.
It represents so much. It is a testament. I'm sure I'll stumble along a picture of what it looked like 6 years ago ... Today it still doesn't look like much, but at one point there were things that attracted bees.
How it got to the current state is because I'm not at home due to work. And whoever is at home is not really as invested as I am.
So....trying to win over people too lazy to water the garden I've been trying to automate the watering system....I'm still a bit off from that but now atleast I have a tap and house pipe closer to where the water needs to be.
Anyway ... I'm busy cleaning up: doing some heaving prooning, even took out a tree by the roots.
Why: making space for veggies bed!
Progress so far: on and off working during the festive season whenever I get a chance.
Saw a video on how to keep the kritters from eating your leaves.
Simple hot water. Add some spicy spice to water and spray it over the plant. The bugs mouths will burn and they'll scatter....works
