“Ok but imagine if it was a Jolie-Pitt, you’d be a national hero. If it ever does happen, try not to forget us little ones when you’re a star. But actually great press for the beach, maybe now the town will buy us some cool new gadgets.”

a backpack dangled from slender shoulders as the blonde made her way across the sand, granules tickling the bottoms of her feet as she padded across it. sunny had merely been in search of a good spot to sit when she found herself stumbling across friendly conversation with one of the lifeguards. as always, lips presented themselves in a polite smile at the male. “very well, thank you.” nimble fingers coming to fumble with the sunglasses dangling from her t-shirt as she spoke. “i’m sure in weather like this you lot are kept awful busy.” a simple head nod toward the lifeguard hunt shows what the blonde had been referring to.

Brooks chuckled a bit looking over the beach. “You’ve got that so right,” he playfully rolled his eyes. “Earlier I had to go save some drunk man that had floated out too far on his inflatable raft and freaked out that he couldn’t get back,” he looked tot he ground and shook his head. His hand rubbed the back of his neck, “some people just never cease to surprise me.” He smiled at the blonde, “You are a surprise, but a pleasant one. What brings you to the beach?”

he had just finished his round when one of his workmates tap his shoulder, signaling his break had just begun. he smiled as he hopped of his chair and headed towards one of the huts. a familiar face soon came into view and victor gave them a nod of acknowledgement as he squinted his eyes from the sun. “well i’m on break from duty so i’m just trying to bask in the sun but as you can see,” he motioned to the sky. “the day’s bipolar so i’m not really enjoying today.” he placed his hands on his hips. “you still on duty?”

“Always on duty,” he laughed. It was partially true, even on his break he was never on his break. Someone always saw his uniform and always needed him. “But, I do feel ya. Enjoy the rays while you can. Its getting more crowded which means more hectic for us,” he laughed and shrugged his shoulders. “Had some idiot try and burry his friend alive in the sand as a dare, they were both drunk, but it’s gonna be one of those days.”

“do they actually do that?” rosalie widened her eyes. “that’s so…distressing. and silly. mostly silly. but it definitely sounds like something a 14-year old would do.” at the compliment, the little smile across her face spreads, blue eyes twinkling. “well, thank you. i wish i had a name like ‘resident lifeguard.’ so beautiful. so warm. it really is. i lose track of time everywhere i go, but. this is one of my favorite places.”

“You know, I get that a lot. I actually think that’s the meaning of my name, warm and beautiful,” he playfully nudged her, rolling his eyes a bit. “What a coincidence,” his eyes lit up, “it’s one of my favorite places too. Doesn’t get much better than the sound of the ocean and the feeling of sand between your toes. It’s cliche, but it’s true.”

“Aren’t you quite charming, today?” Mandy giggled slightly and put a strand of hair behind her ear. “Yeah, a good sign.” She agreed with a little nod of her head. “But it’s not the end of the day so keep your eyes wide open.” She nudged him into his shoulder a little bit. “As far as your hearing, I believe that you have been trained very well since the girl’s screaming and wailing for their missing floaties can be pretty loud sometimes.”

“I do my best,” he chuckled, smirking at the brunette. “And don’t you worry, my eyes and ears are all over this beach, nothing’s happening on my watch,” Brooks rolled his shoulders back, straightening his posture a bit as he took a quick scan of the beach. “So what brings you out today? Enjoying the nice weather or?”

“True – I mean I know people come here to have a good time, and of course half end up drinking, but is it really necessary to get that wasted in the middle of the day?” She questioned with a small shrug, quiet sigh falling from her lips. “Aw, well I’m glad to hear it wasn’t anything serious.” She did the same momentarily scanning the water and beach before returning her attention to her colleague. “Something to be thankful for, even if it’s a slow day, I think nothing terrible happening for once is definitely a good thing.”

“C’mon where’s the fun if you’re not totally obliterated,” he retorted sarcastically. “Oh you’re telling me. I don’t think i’ve seen a day this quiet since I started a few years back. Must mean something is coming, but hopefully thats just the pessimist inside of me.”

“well, that’s good. no sharks to fight off yet ? ” rosalie teased with a grin, fingers fidgeting with the end of her pastel blue coverup. as he mentioned her phone, however, she couldn’t help but let the smile slip off of her face. “oh ! i’m sorry, i didn’t mean to offend. i just had to check the time. i’m not…totally sure how long i’ve been wandering for.” at the introduction, she offered him her petite hand, smile slowly creeping back onto her face. “rosalie. nice to meet you, resident lifeguard.”

“No sharks yet, it usually comes during shark week, when high schoolers find it funny to wear fake fins and give the beach a good scare,” he playfully shrugged. “Roasalie, what a charming name,” he smiled. “Sounds much better than resident lifeguard, and let me tell you that’s a hard one to beat,” Brooks joked with the girl. “And no you weren’t offending me, I hope you’ve been enjoying your stroll. The beach is always a great place to lose track of time.”

“The beach is amazing as every day. ” Mandy answered his question with a smile on her face. “I just think that the weather is even hotter than it was yesterday. I mean - I don’t mind, the beach is crowded one way or another.” She shrugged. “What about you? How are you? How are you enjoying your shift, today? Anything interesting?”

“I think each day it just gets hotter and hotter, especially if you keep frequenting it,” he smiled at the girl and pulled the glasses off of his face. “I’m doing just great. Nothing too exciting has happened yet, which is usually a good sign. Just the usual jellyfish stings, drunk football games, and little girls missing floaties.”

After dealing with complaints centered around a rowdy drunk guy ( who of course wouldn’t listen to reason and needed to be escorted out ) Desirae was heading back to her hut. All the while, her brown hues scanned around the beach, making sure everyone was alright & things were going smoothly. It wasn’t until a familiar voice rang through her ears, did her focus break and the Filipina turned to see Brooks, causing a warm smile to curve on her own lips. “Hey!” She greeted back in a similar tone, her own accent slipping through the words though not at prominent as if she were speaking her native tongue. “Enjoying it just fine actually, although I did have to deal with another drunk idiot causing a scene, other than that it’s been a nice day. You?”

“Just another day,” he chuckled. He had dealt with his fair share of drunk lunatics on the beach, so he understood the frustration that followed it. “Just had to save a little girl who’s floaty fell off. She wasn’t in danger, but the mother thought she was, so nothing serious.” He turned a bit to scan the water, the sun was shining and it was truly a perfect day. “Surprised we’ve had nothing else, so many people on the beach it’s usually a terrible day for us.”

rosalie, whom had been wandering aimlessly around the beach for…jesus, how long had it been ? the brunette frantically pulled her phone out of her pocket, almost totally unaware that the man had been speaking to her. after checking the time, and finding that it hadn’t been too long, rosalie finally turned to the other. “oh, um. hi.” his jovial tone had her smiling, effervescence radiating from her frame. “i’m having a great day, thank you, stranger !! and, um, how about you?”

“Always great to hear,” he smiled at the brunette, “And I’m doing great, it’s been a pretty calm day. So, I’ve got few problems in my world.” He laughed and nodded his head towards the phone in her hand, “What’s so interesting on the phone that could possibly be better than the beach?” he joked with the other. “The name is Brooks, resident lifeguard.”

“wow you ARE formal. I think you could chill a little, especially with your sister.” suri laughed lightly and offered a small shrug. “but it is a beautiful day here huh? I mean I guess it always is to be honest. ya’ll have a hot summer ahead, don’t work t o o hard.” suri’s accent had faded as well but she still found herself saying ya’ll far to often.

Brooks tipped his shades, squinting his eyes a bit. “Suri?!” He was shocked, he hadn’t expected his sister to be on his beach. He extended his arms, offering his younger sister a hug. “I- I mean what are you doing in my neck of the woods?”

mal brushed her raven hair out of her face before readjusting the sunglasses on her face as she made her way to her lifeguard station, hut a. when a football almost hit her square in the face. “HEY! do you mind?” she asked, picking up the ball and launching it in the other direction. “go fetch!” she spat before turning to face her fellow lifeguard. “well apart from almost having a complete face reconstruction — it’s the same as it always is.”

Brooks laughed at the fellow lifeguard, “seems like it’s just your day.” He began to walk alongside Mal, still be vigilant of his surroundings. “Well at least the worst that’s happened was you got hit in the face with a football, and lucky for you, your hair didn’t even get messed up,” he joked with the other lifeguard as they approach the hut. “Make any saves today? Or have you just saved the football?”

Brooks walked along Santa Monica Beach, it was the height of the day, the heat was sweltering, and the people came to the beach in droves. His bright red swim trunks read ‘Lifeguard’ down the side of the trunk and the sand squished under his toes. He was wandering, keeping an eye on all of the beach goers, doing his job. As he made his way closer to his lifeguard hut, he saw someone begin to approach him. He beamed the other a friendly smile, “Hello!” His southern accent was light, but present,”How are you enjoying the beach today?”
