Elaborate? Beginning game, maybe Sinclair didn't, but end game, I think he had a good redemption arc
Personally I think a lot of his redemption came from inconvenience and that robs it of most genuine feeling. He’s only sorry after being forces to share space with the consequences his actions in a way he couldn’t buy himself out of. He was perfectly content ignoring the problems his actions generated.
Plus he reminds me of those real world millionaires and billionaires who don’t actually communicate remorse for their shady behavior until caught.
So I have little sympathy for this capitalist chucklefuck finally experiencing Emotion™. Like, thanks for the help but you’re not out of the doghouse yet.
He’s literally a human trafficker oop
Aidan Turner as Phillip Lombard
AND THEN THERE WERE NONE (2015)
Woe, Cohen be upon ye.
I plan on drawing others, don’t you worry about that.
God old news but the kids from bioshock are the ugliest creatures i have ever had the misfortune of laying my eyes on. Seeing their ugly ass faces makes me feel BAD for saving them instead of harvesting their organs.
BioShock 1 and BioShock 2: Your choices matter. Humanity finds beauty in connection and protecting each other. Ideology that encourages us to deny this is inherently flawed
BioShock Infinite: Racist and anti racists r the same. Give ur daughter a necklace, pick either because nothing fuckin changes. Also she WILL die
BioShock 1 always seemed to me to be more than anything a metacritique on video games as a medium. The writer(s) for BioShock 1 explicitly said they never went out of their way to critique objectivism or Randian ideas in general, that just came about when shaping Rapture and seeing "oh wait this sucks, actually."
But the game is literally about not having choice. It's a railroaded experience (as nearly all video games are) with in-universe backstory and story beats about not having actual choices or free will. You cannot actually decide to do anything except either follow your objective marker or faff about or close the game.
There is no F:NV dialogue box where you can convince Andrew Ryan or Fontaine that they're just bitter exes or whatever. The only story choices you get at all are to free or harvest the little sisters, and freeing them is so much more rewarding in the long-term that there is no utilitarian argument to be made about harvesting them. You would literally only harvest them if you want to see what would happen or you want to get the bad ending cutscene.
So much of the game's dialogue centers on ruminating about choice and free will all in a game where you cannot make actual choices and a medium where free will is impossible. As Todd put it, you can't "go anywhere, do anything" in a video game, unless that game endlessly procedurally generates itself and can generate NPCs with unique dialogue and reactions and AI behaviors and there are no hard triggers for anything to happen a certain way. The closest any game gets is, like, immersive sims and then Minecraft, No Man's Sky, and Outer Wilds (among others). But all of those are still extremely limited in scope and capabilities in relation to being able to go anywhere and do anything.
Video games inherently are alienated from choice and free will. Games have triggers for events. You have to kill Wilhelm to get the power core for Sanctuary. You have to go to the Nether to get Blaze Rods before you can go to the End. You have to kill Seath, Four Kings, Bed of Chaos, and Nito to be able to access the Kiln of the First Flame (though you can do that in any order). Ex cheterah ex cheterah. Some games have sequence breaks or other glitches that let you skip certain triggers, but that is not the typical play experience.
And BioShock 1 fucking gets it, man. Fuck your dialogue wheel, fuck your meaningless side quests, fuck the illusion of choice. You're just a puppet along for the ride.
And then Ayn Rand also happened to get 720 no-scoped in the process ayooooo.
Post-script: I will also use "BioShock 1 is a meta-critique of video games as a medium" as maximum copium for the hacking minigame. The hacking minigame is bad and not fun on purpose because they knew that hacking minigames are never fun or good and they wanted to push it to it'a limit (but then uh oh cynical spunkgargleweewee sci-fi edgelord game Deus Ex: Human Revolution made one even less fun, somehow). It was bad on purpose, I say! They were actually self-aware geniuses, I say!
Get it???
