Anti-inflammatory drug and gut bacteria have a dynamic interplay
A nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) changed the composition and diversity of gut microbes, which in turn shaped how the drug is broken down and ultimately, cut its effectiveness, according to an animal study from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Gut bacteria that make up the gastrointestinal microbiome play an important role in the metabolism of most chemicals humans ingest, motivating studies of microbe-driven breakdown of clinically important drugs. In fact, gut bacteria are involved in the digestion of over 30 U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved drugs.
In findings published this month in eLife, first author Xue Liang, PhD, a postdoctoral researcher in the lab of senior author Garret A FitzGerald, MD, chair of the department of Systems Pharmacology and Translational Therapeutics and director of the Institute for Translational Medicine and Therapeutics, found that interactions between gut bugs in mice and the NSAID indomethacin (similar to ibuprofen and naproxen) inhibit the action of cyclooxygenases (COX) -1 and -2. NSAIDs block these COX enzymes and reduce fatty acids called prostaglandins in the body. Because of this, NSAIDs reduce inflammation, pain, and fever. However, since prostaglandins that protect stomach lining cells and promote blood clotting are also reduced, NSAIDs can promote ulcers and bleeding in the stomach.

Ventricular Tachycardia (V-Tach)
Ventricular Tachycardia is a dysrhythmia that usually originates from a single site within the ventricles at a rate greater than 100 bpm. The QRS complex is wide, bizarre and >0.12 seconds. As the heart rate increases, the ventricles do not have the opportunity to completely empty and refill. Therefore, cardiac output is decreased and adequate amounts of blood are not circulated to vital organs. Once the heart rate exceeds 160 impulses per minute, there is usually no effective pumping action of the heart and the patient presents with PULSELESS V-Tach. This patient requires immediate defibrillation. It is possible to have a pulse with V-Tach, however this will degrade into a life threatening dysrhythmia if left untreated.
Ventricular Fibrillation (V-Fib)
With V-Fib there are many impulses initiated from many locations within the ventricles. As a result the cardiac output is nonexistent and the patient will not have a pulse. The fibrillation may be fine or course waves. As the amplitude of fibrillation waves decreases so does the chance of successful defibrillation and reorganization of a viable perfusing rhythm.
V-tach and V-Fib - the only two pulseless asystoles that are shockable (that you put the pads on and defib, like in the movies/shows) If available on the spot, you can defib straightaway, then commence CPR. If not - check airway, breathing and CPR. Always call for help.
Be able to recognize it on ECG or on the defib:
Vtach: (Broad complexes, tachycardia, disassociation of P and QRS complexes)
From Life in the fast lane
VFib: (Chaotic & irregular, no identifiable P or QRS complexes)
From Life in the Fast Lane
Follow either ALS (Advance Life Saving) or BLS (Basic Life Saving) guidelines. Main difference between the two are drugs - in ALS administer adrenaline followed by amiodarone. After 2 mins of CPR.
Graffiti of Steve Jobs carrying a sack and a Macintosh by Banksy has appeared in Calais' jungle camp, symbolising the Apple co-founder's status as the son of a Syrian migrant
The portrait, which draws on the famous picture of Jobs taken by Albert Watson in 2006 which was later used as the cover image for Walter Isaacson’s Steve Jobs biography, depicts Jobs as carrying a sack and a Macintosh.
A crop of Jobs’ face has been uploaded to Banksy’s official website, confirming the artwork was by him. “We’re often led to believe migration is a drain on the country’s resources, but Steve Jobs was the son of a Syrian migrant. Apple is the world’s most profitable company, it pays over $7bn a year in taxes – and it only exists because they allowed in a young man from Homs,” a statement said.
While Jobs was raised in California by Paul and Clara Jobs, his biological father was Syrian Muslim teaching assistant, Abdulfattah “John” Jandali. Jandali met Jobs’ mother Joanne Schieble at the University of Wisconsin, and Jobs was born on February 24 1955 in San Francisco. He was adopted some months later by the Jobs family, whom he claimed always made him feel special.
“Knowing I was adopted may have made me feel more independent, but I have never felt abandoned,” he told his biographer. “I’ve always felt special. My parents made me feel special.”
When asked about his biological parents, Jobs claimed: “They were my sperm and egg bank. That’s not harsh, it’s just the way it was, a sperm bank thing, nothing more.”
Jobs would inadvertently meet his biological father in later life, who went on to own a cafe called Espresso Roma in Berkeley. “It was amazing,” Jobs is quoted as saying in Steve Jobs. “I had been to that restaurant a few times, and I remember meeting the owner. He was Syrian. Balding. We shook hands.”
Walter Isaccson believed Jobs had little interest in his Syrian heritage, saying: “When the Middle East would come up in conversation, the topic did not engage him or evoke his typical strong opinions, even after Syria was swept up in the 2011 Arab Spring uprisings. "I don’t think anybody really knows what we should be doing over there,” he said when I asked whether the Obama administration should be intervening more in Egypt, Libya and Syria. “You’re f***ed if you do and you’re f***ed if you don’t”.
Graffiti of Steve Jobs in Camberwell, London
London also hosts its own Steve Jobs graffiti, with a black and white design of the visionary on a shutter door in Camerwell, south east London.
Apple made a “substantial donation” to relief agencies working to help refugees fleeing Syria and the Middle East back in September, with chief execitve Tim Cook saying the company’s collective hearts went out to those caught up in the crisis.

I usually wouldn’t share something so vulgar but she asked to spread the story so I am informing you guys just to take precaution and be safe. Here’s the story of Kristina and Marcus Fox. The others are mentioned in the story:
On the morning of Saturday, May 30, 2015, my little brother, Marcus Fox, my daughter’s father, Darrius Walton, and myself were sitting in Taylor Lauridsen Parkconversing with 3 Caucasian people we had just met (Courtney, Kevin, and Jodie). Everyone was having a nice time. Approximately 7-9 more Caucasian people arrived in the park. My little brother being the social butterfly he is introduced himself and began chatting with the new arrivals. After about 30 minutes, one of the guys out of the group we initially met and another from the group that arrived later got into a verbal altercation with each other. My little brother tried to calm things down but this soon escalated as everyone began jumping on him. It was at this point things turned for the worse as he and I fought this massive group of Caucasians consisting of both men and women. They were throwing glass bottles, crutches, bricks, and anything else they could find at us. As we continued to fight through this crowd of assailants to get away, more Caucasians came from out of nowhere and joined in brutally attacking us delivering closed fist blows and kicks to our bodies and head. We began the fight of our lives. This MOB of around 20 Caucasians beat us until we were unable to move and left us laying in the park. My brother & I sustained multiple injuries. I was stabbed eleven times, eight times in the back & right shoulder, twice in the face & once in the head (which the knife was left lodged by one of the perpetrators). My brother was stabbed nine times, along his back, right side with one of the wounds causing him to have a punctured lung. NO ARRESTS have been made and the only publicity this received was an irresponsibly written 97 word article in the Chicago Sun-Times riddled with incorrect information. If the roles were reversed and had this been a mob of African Americans attacking two Caucasians this would have garnered immediate attention and been plastered EVERYWHERE. We have contacted news stations & have not heard back from anyone. This further proves that America believes- BLACK LIVES DON’T MATTER. Please HELP US GET JUSTICE for this hate crime! Please help us show that OUR BLACK LIVES MATTER! #BlackLivesMatter Please help us share our story.

We really need to talk about Boko Haram...
They haven’t been covered much in the mainstream media but Boko Haram have been terrorising Africans with devastating, widespread and long-lasting consequences.
Responsible for more deaths than ISIS
According to the Global Terrorism Report, they have overtaken ISIS as the world’s deadliest terrorist group. It should be noted that in March this year, they pledged allegiance to ISIS. The two groups are responsible for more than half of all terrorist attacks in the world.
Who are they?
Boko Haram promotes a version of Islam which makes it “haram”, or forbidden, for Muslims to take part in any political or social activity associated with Western society.
This includes voting in elections, wearing shirts and trousers or receiving a secular education.
Boko Haram regards the Nigerian state as being run by non-believers, even when the country had a Muslim president - and it has extended its military campaign by targeting neighbouring states.
800,000 people have fled their homes since June
Since the beginning of Boko Haram’s attacks in 2009, 2.1 million people have been forced to leave their homes with a staggering 800,000 having fled between June - September 2015.
