— “We’re okay, bud?” Phillip called out, looking at the rear-view mirror to check on Samson, his 3-year-old Golden Retriever. Samson responded with a yip, meaning all is well, and that he’s enjoying the car ride. “Excited to see Adam?” He asked, making a turn as he drives along the familiar path to his friend’s house.
Not a moment later, after he’s secured a parking spot and has stepped out of his car, Samson followed suit, padding next to Phillip as they make their way towards Adam’s place. Not wanting to impose, Phillip took out his mobile phone and dialed Adam’s number.
“You’re right, it’s always best to call you first,” was Phillip’s quick greeting when the other line was picked up, “and that’s what I’m doing. Anyway, I’m near your front door. I brought Samson. Are you outside or…?”
Adam was doing a bit of a Christmas cleaning on his bookshelves when his phone all of a sudden started to ring. At first he was going to just ignore it, but as he glanced at the caller’s name he knew the phone was going to keep ringing if he didn’t pick it up. He didn’t even say a thing as he put the phone on his ear, he knew Phillip would take care of the talking and he could just listen.
And then Phillip said he was at his door and Adam just let out a sigh. “Wait a sec”, Adam replied and ended the call. He left his phone on the library’s table, walked out of the room closing the door behind him and headed to the front door. He opened the door and just stepped aside as a wordless invitation for Phillip and Samson to come in. Hemingway and Hawthorne came out of the living room, both of them peeking towards the front door from the living room’s doorway. As they noticed Samson both started to wag their tails, but neither moved from their spot because they hadn’t gotten a permission to do a thing so they just waited for some kind of sign from Adam.
