The titles that fill the covers of the imaginary books created by Johan Deckmann fall in the category of “hitting to close to home to be funny” or “too funny to be true”, you decide. You can see more of this collection in his IG account. or as part of the exhibition “Any Given Book” at the White Noise Gallery in Rome.

It’s a stupid thing to do, to make a video of what you’re watching on tv. But I’m glad I filmed the Italian national team singing their anthem before tonight’s World Cup qualifier (which they lost). It occurred to me that it could be the last time I see such a moment while I’m still in Italy. And that realization broke — and is still breaking — my heart. This will be the first time in 60 years that Italy has missed the World Cup. It makes me sad for these players, a few nearing retirement, that they will have to live with this burden. But they just couldn’t put the ball in the goal tonight, even though they held possession almost the entire match. On the other hand, Ventura, the coach, should have been fired months ago. He played guys out of position, was slow to start some of the most talented newcomers, and didn’t give the players the formations or combinations they needed to gel together. Tonight I am crestfallen, but at least I have this souvenir that will transport me to that moment of conviction and hope and promise. I will always love Italy, in good times and bad.

I walk past this building almost every day. But today, as I walked on the other side of the street, I noticed for the first time this building’s particular design. Love — AMOR — was there the whole time. I only needed to step back to be able to see it. #romaamor #romaamoremio
