#ThinkPiece A partnership requires work for compatibility in three different areas: emotional, intimate, and social. Primary relationships can be formed in all three of these areas. For example: – We have emotional connections with family members: from whom we learn to love and attachment. – We can have social connections: those who we see in shared spaces, such as coworkers, acquaintances, social media connections, etc. – We can have intimate connections: those with whom we may “casually” interact. (see: [redacted]) We form deeper bonds with those whom we share secondary connections. These connects are more commonly known as our friendships (with whom we have social compatibility and emotional connection) and romantic relationships [or courtships] (with whom we share emotional connection and intimate relations). While we don’t often address dalliance, it is more commonplace than it is spoken to commonly. These connections are often called “f*ck buddies” or “friends with benefits”. We spend a lot of time in pursuit of the tertiary bond known as partnership (or marriage), but often fall short due to current meta narratives and stances on what it means to be in such a relationship. Admittedly, simply having some compatibility in one or more areas does not create the bond of a relationship. Mutuality aside: without intention, these bonds are not automatically formed simply from their raw material. I assert that current social norms cause people to want to distance these connections from each other: – People don’t want to have sex with the person they date. – People “can’t be friends” with someone with whom they have sex. – People won’t date their friends, because it will “mess things up.” With such a notion, how is one supposed to form the bond of a true partnership with such dissonance between their interpersonal relationships? https://www.instagram.com/p/CMTCaKMr0jl/?igshid=185hmwk7821zc

It was about now, 36 years ago, that my mother was in labor attempting to get me to leave the womb. I ain’t want to. You let her tell it: she was waiting 48 hrs for me to come out, before they took me via C-section. I ain’t pop out ‘til after midnight on Friday, October 5th, 1984. I’ont ask for much on my birthday. I’m not use to many people making it a special day. I’m learning to make it special and important to me ☺️. All I want is $1 (or whatever you wanna send) and a message through one of these services. I enjoy knowing that I’m thought of. I’ll likely be sleep when the day hits, but of this I’m certain. I’m happy to be here; here’s to 36 more years (and beyond). I’ve lost people I loved…and yet, I feel stronger than I’ve ever been before. . 2020 has honestly been everything for which I’ve asked: a much needed reprieve from what was before…a much needed reflection with revelations of things yet to come. .
