This has come in very handy lately! A browser based Android emulator. It let's you see exactly how your web content looks on Android devices.
This morning Facebook unveiled the new designs for their homepage, aka The Newsfeed. Here's a video that showcases it pretty well. I think it's a million times better. Cleaner, leaner and more engaging. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on it. The roll-out is going to happen slowly, but you can sign up to get it early here: facebook.com/newsfeed

If you have an iPhone or iPad and you are a news junky like me, then you are most likely a Flipboard user. I love the magazine style way of flipping through all my feeds and subscriptions. One thing I've always been curious about though as a publisher is how to get my content on there, and looking good. That info was kind of hard to come by before, but Flipboard have now put out more information. This link provides info on how to optimize your existing RSS feeds. And you can now submit your content to be featured from here. THE LINKS: dl.dropbox.com/u/84795419/flipboard-rss-feed-spec.html flipboard.com/publishers/
Did you hear about the recent public uproar in response to Instagram's terms of service update? Apparently the densely worded user agreement was trying to say something along the lines of they could sell your photos to advertisers and not give you anything in return. They have since reworded the agreement. Check out Kevin Rose's thoughts on the matter in the above video. I concour. These services are all free, at some point they have to monetize to keep going. Personally I would prefer to pay a monthly fee than have advertising shoved in my face on every social network.
Today YouTube released a new toy for all us iOS users out there... 'Capture'. The app simply allows you to shoot and upload your videos to YouTube in an instant. If you like, you can also share to Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus at the same time. Check out the official video above. It looks pretty nifty. I'll have to think of all the ways I could use it now! Via: The Verge
Interesting article on SpeckyBoy about the latest trend in digital design, Flat Design! http://speckyboy.com/2012/12/11/the-flat-design-aesthetic/
I just got my invite to the 'new' Myspace. I actually really like the design. Still playing around with it. In the meantime check out this video preview of it.
This is the future of movie distribution. Vimeo have now offered up a few more details about their upcoming Pay Per View service for filmmakers to distribute their own content. (See image). There is a persistent question that confronts every independent filmmaker. How can audiences see your movie? The ideal scenario of having your film bought up by a major studio and released in Theaters across the country (or the world!) is exactly that, too idealistic. The reality is that kind of thing only happens to the minority, the rest of us have to find our own audiences. I'm surprised that more indie filmmakers don't confront self-distribution more head-on as a serious component of their production process. The Internet is here, the technology is here and the audiences are here with screens in front of their faces throughout most of the day. These are the things I think about as both a filmmaker and a web designer/developer on a daily basis. How can I leverage my tech skill-set to benefit my filmmaking passions? Vimeo are making all the right moves. They are creating exactly what I am thinking about. I am 90% confident that this will work tremendously and create a whole new business model for filmmakers outside the Hollywood eco-system. Eventually there will be copycats, or maybe Vimeo will dominate for a while in similar ways that Netflix and Hulu have. The act of going to the 'actual' Cinema won't die, I hope it won't! But the reality of a business model for indie filmmakers in this new technological age is about to heat up and finally emerge into tangible successes. I can feel it! vimeo.com/movies
Got my badge for the Seattle Interactive Conference 2012! Lots of great panels taking place over the next couple of days. Let the techo-geekery knowledge consumption begin!
Vimeo Creator Services This is a great announcement from Vimeo. I am awaiting the 'Pay to View' service too, that's gonna' be great for filmmakers! www.vimeo.com/blog/post:523 www.vimeo.com/creatorservices
Excellent article on the use of pure black in digital design. When you look around in real life you realize that things aren't actually pure black. Roads, shadows the back of your iPhone? They all have a certain amount of light bouncing off them which makes them anything but pure black. Read on.

Yet another look at Apple’s design process
Let me reiterate my stance that I think it’s fascinating that Apple wants to win this lawsuit badly enough that they’re letting all this previously confidential information get out.
BarackObama.com Source Code. Was casually browsing Barack's source code today - as all web designers do when they are curious about how a site design is put together ;-) - and discovered this Obama/Biden 2012 unicode logo. Wow, that's a lot of effort for something only web designers might see. Those in the know will already be aware that vimeo.com and tumblr.com among others have this type of logo execution in their source. Just thought it was slightly amusing.
