Will lifted his balled up fist, shaking with nervousness as he knocked on the door twice. He spotted a doorbell to the side, and silently cursed himself for knocking instead of ringing the bell. You had heard the knock. Your apartment quiet except for the television playing. You opened the door, grinning at Will. âHi,â you smiled, resting against the door. Will smiled too.
âHi,â he repeated the word, starting to grin like a fool too. âThese are for you,â he quickly said, holding out the bouquet of flowers. You took the flowers from his hand, smelling them.Â
âYou can come inside, Iâm just going to put these in water,â you told him, opening the door wider as you walked away. Will stepped into your home, staying in the entrance as he waited.Â
âSo, how are you?â he asked, shuffling on his feet, and stuffing his hands in his pocket. Will didnât know why he was nervous. You both had been talking for weeks now, it was just yesterday when he got the courage to ask you out. When you said yes, he went to bed with a smile on his face that night. You peaked your head from inside the kitchen to look at him. Replying to what he asked, then went back to looking in the cabinets for a vase. You heard footsteps approach the kitchen, and looked over your shoulder to smile at Will. âDo you live here alone?â he asked, taking a seat at the table.
âNo, I roommate with two of my friends,â you told him, âAh, found it!â You grabbed the vase. Standing up, you walked over to the sink, and filled the vase with water. Once the flower was in the water, you placed it in the center of the table, and smiled at Will. âReady?â you asked, resting your hands on top of one of the chairs.Â
As the date went on Will became less nervous. It was just like when you two had first met. âAlright ring toss it is!â you said, pulling onto Willâs arm. He laughed, following you to the carnival game.
âY/N, Iâm telling you carnival games are rigid,â Will groaned, but reluctantly placed down the two tickets for you to play. You shrugged his words off, picking up one of the rings. âGood luck,â he said, watching as you tossed one of the rings. The two of you had been roaming around the carnival for a while now. Trying different types of carnie food, and getting on rides. It was when you two were passing games that the topic was brought up. Will claimed that all carnival games were rigid, and you the opposite. Thatâs when the bet started. Three games. You two were going to play three of the carnival games, and if you lost his theory was true.
âOH! I won, in youâre face!â you shouted, raising your hands up in victory. Will was leaning against one of the poles that was holding the tent up, arms crossed over his chest.
âRing toss was too easy,â he said, âLetâs do the baseball toss.â He pointed across from where you two were a smug look on his face. You cracked your knuckles, the competitive side of you coming out. Following Will over to the baseball toss, he placed down three tickets. The host of the game handed you the balls, and you tossed one in the air for a bit, then threw it. Will chuckled as you missed. You shot him a glare.
âYou think itâs so easy why donât you try,â you said, holding out the second ball. He smirked, grabbing the ball out of your hand. Will let out a deep breath, retracting his hand back, and throwing the ball. The cans toppled for a second, but then stayed put. You laughed, then threw the last ball. It did the same, and you pursed your lips at how it didnât fall over. âOkay, that was just one game I lost, whatâs the last game?â you asked, picking out a tiny teddy bear from the âgood effortâ prizes. Will led you to the next game, and you waited in line. âYou were right, carnival games are rigid,â you sighed hours later.Â
âI told you!â Will exclaimed, âIâm pretty sure the cans for baseball toss probably have magnets at the bottom.â He parked the car in front of your building, and you both sat in the car.Â
âI had a great time,â you told him. Will smiled at your words.
âWell, I guess that means we have to go on a second date,â he said. You laughed, biting onto your bottom lip as you nodded. âAnd that my theory was correct.â You rolled your eyes at him, but still leaned over to peck him on the cheek. Taking Will by surprise.
âGoodnight,â you said, getting out the car. Willâs hand came up to touch his cheek, and he grinned.Â
âGoodnight,â he whispered, watching you walk towards the building. Excited for the next date.Â
