You ever think about how the only time John and Jack Marston really, truly, come close to understanding each other is in The Last Enemy That Shall Be Destroyed?

The only time they genuinely get along and have a mutual conversation that goes both ways is mere minutes before the ranch is raided.

How they’re laughing together and making plans and relating to each other and being supportive and having fun with one another, one of the only and most wholesome moments in the game comes right before John dies.

Because John and Jack will never truly get one another. They share a name and a face and even the same damn idle animations but they will never understand each other, but they came so close so late. John dies an absent father who ““changed”” far too late and Jack will bury him believing he was a disappointment, and it was so close to being different. And it's so cruel and ironic and so unfair because if they had even just another hour before Beecher's Hope got raided maybe they could've found common ground, but we'll never know.

Because I do. Man, do I think about it.
