what had happened was an absolute travesty. carolyn had never wanted this, she had made that clear to the other woman before and was going to continue to repeat it. her heart ached for the reeves children as well as isadora; they would never truly get over it but she had to show her support in the only way the knew how. sitting in the living room on the second floor, the blonde proceeded to puor them some tea. “i appreciate that this is very difficult for you, isadora.” carolyn knew that the other woman didn’t want to be reminded but it was important that the president recognised her predecessor and everything and everyone that he left behind. the woman couldn’t push them all aside and assume this new power until herself, that wasn’t how she was going to operate. somehow, carolyn needed to give a hand in management. “would you like some sugar, dear?” with everything that was going on, minor details like that one seemed to escape her. as capable as she was, the woman felt like she was not only walking on thin ice but that she was also blindfolded.
@mrsreevcs
isadora took on carolyn’s offer to have some tea. arriving moments later , she knew that the other woman was going to make her intentions clear to the redhead. the constant reminder was unbearable but she somehow understood. they both sat in the living room located on the second floor , but reeves sat quietly across from carolyn and nodded as she acknowledged her statement. not knowing exactly how to respond to the other , the redhead slightly smiled at the woman who now takes on the role of the president of the united states. isadora was truly thankful that a woman was the president ; the first female president. “ i’d love some sugar. thank you , ma’am. ” ma’am ? she felt weird referring to her as such but it was out of respect. hopefully , the other woman knew that isadora respected the concern she had towards her family. “ you didn’t have to do this , carolyn. i don’t want to be a burden but i truly appreciate it. ”

“Of course I’ll keep it, especially when I need something to pull out and flair the dramatics,” he gave her a slight smile, knowing the conversation had turned slightly. Although, he wanted to give Isadora a comforting and safe space to be able to think and answer with a clear head. Making their way to the counter he tucked her keys into his pocket and pulled out his designer wallet along with his black AMEX card. Leaning on the counter he waited for the shop girl to wrap everything up in a way that satisfied her standards. Arlo gave her a slight nod, “The night before, I was in his study with him…we’d polished off …God what was it? His favorite bourbon…the expensive one that kind of just felt like fire going down?” He laughed, “Do you still have his collection of whiskey and bourbon?” Once they finished at the counter he fell in step with her as the two got to the car Arlo opened the door for her and then made his way around the side putting his garments in the back and headed towards where she was living now with the kids. The two, finally able to speak freely, “What I’m saying is…I only remember pieces of the night before, but I felt like he was saying goodbye. Why would he be talking like that if he didn’t suspect something?”
“ flair for the dramatics ; why am i not surprised by that ? of course i don’t offensively mean that in any way. ” isadora chuckled softly and followed behind him towards the counter. reeves didn’t know how to appreciate the time arlo was giving her. she felt like she didn’t deserve to be treated so kindly. “ oh , that fire burning bourbon ! ” she exclaimed and nodded afterwards. “ indeed i do. edward had a fine whiskey and bourbon collection. i could not find myself leaving them behind at the white house. don’t think he would be fond of that. ” the woman laughed slightly and shook her head at the thought of what he’d say. god , it was so strange for her to talk about him in the past tense. “ would you like to take a couple of them to your place ? ” she offered kindly as they walked towards her car, hoping that he would accept. a ‘thank you’ was gestured towards the male when he had opened the door for her. without any speculation from the public , isadora sighed with relief as they finally had the chance to speak freely together. “ wait , you felt like he was saying goodbye ? well ... i - i think i know why but ... did he really ? did he say anything about the kids ? ”
sallycnn:
one thing was always going to be certain, sally ann loved her mother. she would have done anything for the woman and that included distancing herself so that her mother could grieve without her constantly looking of her shoulder or crying and then her mother deflecting to try and make her daughter feel better. things hadn’t been perfect in the reeves house for some time but that didn’t mean that it was going to hurt any less.
the girl doesn’t know what to think about being in the old house; there were so many happy times in it but it all vanished once her father entered the political race. everything seemed to fall apart, she seemed to fall apart and she had never truly recovered. now wasn’t the time to tell her mother that things were getting bad again, not when the woman had too much to deal with. her brother wasn’t exactly making it any easier. sally was trying to be patient but as the days continued to pass by, her patience was starting to wear very thin.
it was true, she didn’t like answering calls. they made her panic and she did avoid them purposefully, even when they came from her mother. sally ann didn’t blame her mother for any of this, she couldn’t. the girl didn’t expect anything from her; she had done so much for her and this was the time where she had to be patient with her mother. “i’m fine.” the lie was so easy, one that she had been practising daily for it to become more believable. there wasn’t any time to delve into her problems and she certainly didn’t want to place any more burdens on her mother, not when her brother was being so distant from the both of them. “my new professors are good, so that’s something.” avoiding to elephant in the room wasn’t healthy but she was trying her best to act as strong as she could. sally ann had always cared about her mother but perhaps it was too much when it got to this stage… “what’s cooking? it smells really good. i don’t know if i can eat another noodle pot ever again the way i’ve been living in california.”
she loved her kids , mason and sally ann , equally. isadora needed to get it together as quickly as possible. its been two months and she wanted in on the investigation but had to avoid risking her family’s safety. after all , reeves came to the conclusion to retire and become a stay - at - home mom , and still provide for her family somehow. however , moving back into their residential home didn’t make it any better. unfortunately. all the matriarch could hope for was getting their lives back to normal , but that could be a long time from now.
she was fairly disappointed that she was being lied to. she didn’t expect her daughter to be fine after everything that happened ; the change she had to endure after the news of her father. she sighed , “ i’m glad to hear that you have GOOD professors at georgetown. ” she shared a genuine smile towards her daughter , and was content to have sally here with her. even after the ordeal that unexpectedly hit their family. knowing that her distance was affecting her children in some way , she had the intention of checking in and acknowledging her daughter’s feelings. if only mason wasn’t so distant with them then she’d be feeling a lot better. “ i’ve cooked some lasagna with mom and dad , i’ll also be prepping some poffertjes later in the evening for dessert. oh gosh , please don’t tell me you’ve eaten noodle pots every night. ” she softly chuckled and stated , “ i’m happy to have you back home. ” she paused momentarily. “ come here , ” she advised sally to follow her into the living room to have a somewhat decent conversation. “ we don’t have to but we should talk. i’d like to know how you’re actually holding up. ”
John set his jaw as he glanced over the files that littered his desk. Each one was labeled as top secret and he just knew that if he opened one he would be there all night obsessing over them. Only one other FBI director had investigated a presidential assassination and now he had to not only do that, but lead an investigation on the assassination of the, well former now, vice president as well.
It was stressful.
He ran a hand over his face as he heard a knock on his door and quickly reached for his water bottle. He needed a drink, especially to deal with whatever, or more accurately whoever was about to enter his office.
“I wasn’t aware I had a meeting today.” He said, his expression neutral as he leaned back in his seat.
isadora decided to stop by at the fbi headquarters and visit the fbi director himself , john callahan. she had not seen him for a while , not since retiring. ever since her husband’s assassination , reeves has been desperate for answers ; she just didn’t know if people would be willing to fill her in on any updates. two months and she already regretted retiring as an fbi agent.
she knocked on his door and waited for moment until letting herself in. she sternly looked over at him as he leaned back into his seat. “ you don’t. thought i should stop by for a visit. it’s been a while , director callahan. ” the former agent mused with a stoical expression on her face. she leaned into the seat that was in front of his desk and sighed. “ hope i’m not intruding. ”
daxarlokane:
Arlo nodded, he had seen her leave early, he knew it would be rough. Not just for her but for everyone. Stifling even. Cameras watching her every move. And it wasn’t just America, it was the world watching. “Yeah,” he offered lightly they’d talk more when they weren’t in public. One never knew who was listening or taking photos and her certainly didn’t want to be part of any speculation, rumors, or scrutiny. Not for her, or him. “Oh, this, I’m keeping it’ll be lucky,” he gave her a soft smile. “You know what why don’t we just go pick up some food now and head home, I don’t mind driving,” he offered knowing one of her secret service agents could easily drive her car home for her. “Let me just get changed out of all this…” he wanted to ask…stepping into the dressing room to change and grab his things he paused a moment then asked through the door. “Did Ed seem…different to you in any way the weeks leading up to the assassination?” He asked, not wanting to pry, but, it was something that kept itching at the back of his mind. Stepping out of the room with a bundle of clothes he glanced over at the former first lady.
isadora nodded with a soft smile on her face. ever since she became the first lady of the united states , all the woman wanted was to avoid putting her career at risk. mrs. reeves spoke too soon when she’d learned that edward was going to run for president in 2016. isadora was upset and had no choice but to be a supportive wife during his presidential campaign. “ you’re going to keep it ? ” the woman asked , genuinely suprised but still shared a smile. “ sounds like a brilliant idea ! i will give you the keys to my car then. ” she nodded and waited patiently for arlo to change. she stood outside the door with her hands in her pockets , pausing for a moment before responding to his question. “ you know , he did seem different. even on that day. ” isadora stated quietly , clearing her throat before looking up at him when he stepped out of the room. “ ed had gotten rather paranoid. it’s as if he knew people were after him , like , something was bound to happen. ”
sallycnn:
sally felt like she was in an awkward position in between her mother and her brother. her mom had become more distant and interactions with her brother felt like they were non-existent. the death of their father was taking a toll on them in different ways and there wasn’t anything she could do to stop that from happening. however, she would never shut out her mother if she needed time to heal without her. she was supposed to be an adult now, she was supposed to be able to handle it but once again, her life had been flipped upside down and she was left with a mess that she couldn’t sort.
unable to bring herself to return to berkeley, she found herself at georgetown. sally ann felt like she was back at square one and her first month of college was only just repeating. repeating and repeating, it felt like she was trapped in a never ending nightmare that she couldn’t control. it was also strange being back in their old house; it just didn’t feel the same anymore but it was better than being alone in california with no support system and everyone staring.
the girl had heard her mother’s voicemail but was always too stubborn to follow simple instructions. pulling her keys out of her coat, sally unlocked the door and walked in to see her mom and grandparents in the kitchen. “sorry i didn’t text you a reply.” she wasn’t really sure what to say; was there even a right thing to say throughout this period? sally loved her mother more than anyone but their bond was being tested.
isadora and sally ann were no doubt in an awkward position. as a mother , it was her fault in becoming distant with her children. mason wouldn’t even talk to her , he was in his own world and she doesn’t know exactly what’s going on with him. it made her incredibly worried. sally ann , on the other hand , transferred ( due to her father’s death ) from berkeley and the move must be difficult. everything was a mess.
before she rang her daughter , it took her a while to not sound as if she was dying on the inside. she needs to be strong for her children , but moving back into their old house was making it difficult for her. she can’t find herself selling it ; there are too many memories that she held onto. from when edward & isadora reeves first moved to the capital city to their family growing ... and then today. NOTHING was the same anymore but thankfully her kids were in the same city , and constantly traveling wasn’t required.
the woman looked up as soon as she heard sally’s voice and a slight smile appeared on her face. “ i know you kids don’t like answering phone calls , so i could have texted you instead. glad your home. ” her voice almost breaks as she mentions home , so she cleared her throat. it felt like the universe was testing their bond. she looks up at her daughter after putting the food in the oven. “ so i know this is a stupid question , but how’re you feeling ? ” she asked as she washed her hands and dried them with a hand towel. am i a bad mother , she thought. she couldn’t believe it crossed her mind.
the funeral: november 25th, 2018
how did this happen ? did she miss minor details ? mrs. reeves had so many questions running through her mind , driving her insane. isadora felt like her life had turned into a comic book ... a massive joke , excluding the speech bubbles. it was like a silent film. isadora had a lot on her plate. two months and edward was finally going to have his funeral service. this can’t be serious , can it ? two damn months. a funeral for christ’s sake. why did it have to be edward and eric ? yes , she was the first lady but she wasn’t an important figure anymore. in addition , she couldn’t help but feel a huge knot in her stomach once ( and before ) the ceremony began. she had the sudden urge to escape. just for a moment. to B R E A T H E.
ever since her husband’s funeral occurred , it wasn’t a lie that isadora has gotten a little distant than she imagined. she felt as if she hadn’t seen or spoken with her children since , especially sally ann. her daughter , after all , flew all the way from california after hearing the news that her father had passed away. killed was far too much of a harsher word but it was the truth ; the heartbreaking truth.
mrs reeves had finally moved back into their previous home in d.c. , relieved that she wasn’t in the white house anymore. she had settled in the comfort of her own home , where she and edward started a family ━ where it all started. isadora decided to give her daughter a call , leaving a voicemail. “ hey love , i just wanted to let you know that i got rid of all our moving boxes and your room is finally the way it used to be. please let me know if you’ll be coming home for dinner tonight. love you. ” she hung up the phone and carried on getting the house cleaned with the help of her parents.
all she wants to do is spend time with her daughter and make up for the lost time , or so that’s what she felt. she’d abandoned her role as a mother and needed to bounce back into reality. yes , her husband’s death had taken a toll on her , but she was starting to feel better. however , it’s only been two months. “ i really hope she comes home and doesn’t hate me , of course. ” the woman expressed towards her parents as they were preparing an evening meal in the kitchen. ━ ( @sallycnn )
Esmat had been sent on a mission – one he wasn’t particularly excited about. The office he’d been given when he assumed his new role in the White House had been bare since he’d moved in, save for the black desk and chair that had been there before. That, combined with the dark beige of the walls and no windows, made for a gloomy interior. He didn’t mind so much, but he’d been ganged up on by the interns (that often scurried in and out, and often commented on how boring his office was) during his lunch and forced to go find some decorations to liven up the place.
After about two hours of searching for anything that could call itself a decoration, he found himself with two potted plants and a lamp on the metro – stuffed into a corner seat as much as possible. He was mostly hidden behind the plants, which was nice, but it was just busy enough for him to feel obnoxious for taking up so much space. He started to try and shift his findings away from the seat next to him, clumsily at best. “Sorry, this wasn’t my idea, I swear –”
there was something about going on the metro that somehow relaxed isadora. december’s coming up and she needed to buy some christmas decorations for their home. moving back into the reeves’ residence felt quite strange , but was glad that everything was back to normal considering her family’s loss. the redhead wasn’t too fond of change but it is what it is. always forward , never back.
mrs. reeves had two massive reusable bags as soon as she walked onto the train. with as many decorations as it could be thought of , she might have bought too many items than she could handle. she could’ve drove her car , but wanted to avoid driving at the moment. isadora then noticed someone that was hidden behind some plants in a cornered seat. it was time for chaos considering the holidays were around the corner. it was busier than she imagined. “ don’t worry about it. it seems like you have a lot on your hands. ” isadora teased as she noticed the other trying to shift his belongings away from the seat next to him , and holding onto the pole nearby.
daxarlokane:
“Don’t be late?” He held his hands up in a joking defense, “I’m never late,” that was the thing Alro was…well, Arlo. He was either 20 minutes early or 20 minutes late the…twenty to court and twenty after for anything remotely social. Chalk it up to the fact that no one managed his personal life, just his professional life. “I’ll be there,” he smiled as he looked at her. Seeing a slight smile return to her lips. “I do, because I’m a pretentious asshole,” he laughed. “Though, not always, I try to tone it down in the courthouse…” the way her hand felt on his chest made his heart speed up ever so slightly. He swallowed and nodded, “So this and the tie then?” He asked, “What do we think of the suit?” It was simple, but had a bit of flair. A dark charcoal with a barely there pinstripe fitting him ever so perfectly. “I did want one with a vest, though…a three piece always does the trick in front of a judge,” he offered. “A bit of that seems to be going around,” he countered to her he felt it too. The stirring anxiousness of sitting in front of a tv, or being on the internet. So many false rumors, but then again…how much of it was true? Did he really know Edward at all? “Don’t be silly Isa…you don’t owe me anything, I was there…yesterday you know,” he nodded to her. “I just, I didn’t feel like it was my place to take up your time, you seemed to be dealing with too much…”
isa couldn’t help but laugh at his reaction. “ i’ll be looking forward to tonight then. ” she finally displayed a genuine smile as she spoke with arlo. “ now i didn’t think you’d admit to being pretentious. i doubt it though. ” the woman nodded. “ i bet you have some serious competition at the courthouse. don’t tone it down too much. ” isadora ( with a smile on her face ) had placed her hand on the texan’s chest a little longer than she realized , straightening him up , then nodding at his question. “ the suit looks great. with this charcoal suit , i’d go for a vest. anything to impress the judge , right ? i’m not sure about the handkerchief though ; i will leave that up to you if you want it or not. ” she shrugged but offered. the woman also nodded at his statement and he was right. there was a lot of stirring anxiety since september. it was all still new for her. isadora didn’t know how the public felt about the ordeal that had occured ; she could care less about the negativity about her late husband’s administration or the rumors that had been circulating as of late. yesterday was his funeral and it was abnormal. the woman was in denial but she had to come to terms and accept edward’s encountered fate. “ of course , you’ve been around for me since. let me make it up to you somehow. i won’t take no for an answer. ” her gaze was kept on the man that stood in front of her. “ appreciate it , you know ... being there yesterday. don’t know if you noticed but i left early. ” she whispered and sighed. her life drastically changed and she wanted to make a change , she just didn’t know how yet.
with the funeral of the former president, the past few days had been a whirlwind for d.c. ( that was saying something considering what a time the past couple of a months had been ) so, as a way to relax, drew decided to treat himself to a meal. it wasn’t anything huge, just a small restaurant in the business district that had the absolute best indian food one could imagine. making his way inside, he smiled at the familiar face of the owner behind the counter. “ hey man. “ he grinned, reaching for his wallet, before turning, his shoulder bumping into another. “ i’m sorry, “ drew began, shaking his head. “ didn’t see ya there. “
she was in her car for a little over twenty minutes , deciding whether or not to order her meal via phone. she gave in and called but didn’t realize that going in the restaurant was an actual effort. maybe people wouldn’t recognize her. either way , she’d quickly walked in standing in the queue to pay for her meal. the woman felt like all she heard nowadays were apologies. “ ugh , it’s OKAY , ” isadora shakes her head and tapped her wallet against the palm of her hand.
daxarlokane:
Arlo nodded as he gave her a look she wasn’t okay, neither was he but he’d be okay for her. They all needed each other right now, especially those who actually trusted one another and he trusted her. From the way she showed him her feelings he could assume she trusted him as well. Unless it was all an act…but somehow all of this seemed genuine. She had nothing to gain by the loss of Edward and her position as First Lady. Giving her a nod, “Yeah, ask the kids and I’ll come by sometime around six, seven?” He asked making sure it was okay. “I don’t want to put you out, I’m sure you’ve got people coming and going every second of it,” he offered. Letting her fix his tie he leaned into her instinctively as he watched her go someplace else. Taking a slow breath seeing her this way ruined him just as much as first hearing of Edward’s attack. “I’ll even turn off the cell phone,” he gave her a smile knowing how they’d all joke about what would happen if they just turned everything off once in a while. Just as he spoke those words it rang and he gave her a roll of his eyes with a slight laugh. Glancing at the number he let it go to voicemail before turning his attention back to Isa. “Text me with what the kids want and I’ll be over tonight…” he glanced around. “What are you doing out here anyway?” He asked curiously.
if anything , she genuinely trusted arlo and was somewhat glad to not have her position as the first lady anymore. relieved given the circumstance. “ all right , sounds like a plan. don’t be late. ” isadora nodded but teased. was it too soon ? if not then it was definitely a coping mechanism , joking about herself during difficult times. she shakes her head , disagreeing with him. “ you won’t , trust me ━ but i could always kick people out. i don’t want people all over my family, besides i’m not as important as i used to be. pfft, running around like a pack of wild dogs. ” isa stated somewhat sternly , furrowing her eyebrows as she walked away for a second and came back with a neatly folded handkerchief. “ you even wear these ? i - i can’t remember. ” she still placed it in his pocket regardless. “ there , ” she softly laughed when his phone rang. “ and you won’t be able to do that anytime soon. you’re needed. i mean , it’d be nice. turning it off for a while. ” isadora joked and gestured an okay. “ will do , sir. but don’t feel like you’re following any orders ! you’re always welcome to stop by whenever. is it really that shocking to see me here ? but i don’t know. i just needed to leave the house. i might go insane if i stayed at home but it doesn’t make a huge difference. i should have stayed. ” she sighed and quietly spoke , muttering the last bit. “ i owe you a great deal , arlo. ”
daxarlokane:
Truthfully the Defense Attorney was a bit shocked and slackjawed to see Isa out and about so soon after the funeral. Not that he expected her to be in a hole away from prying eyes but she had people to do things for her. Himself being one of those people. Both of them experienced a loss, hers much greater, but he couldn’t get the thought of how she felt, how their children felt, after the…he couldn’t even think it. Arlo owed so much to Edward. Clenching his teeth for a moment at the voice that spoke. His gaze shifting from hers and down to her trembling hands. Waiting for a moment he pulled her into his arms gently as he kept her there for a moment. His posture and grip simply saying, I’m here, without the words. Letting her slip from his embrace his hands ran along her arms as he held her hands a moment longer, he wouldn’t mention anything not in public so he settled on the tie, giving her that charming smile his eyes sparkled, “See I knew you could help.” He glanced down at the tie, then up at her, “Not bad,” the Texan tilted his head. “You and the kids feel like some take out tonight?” He offered, “I can bring the wine for us, but the food for them,” he joked lightly as he searched her gaze. In the back of his mind lingered the last conversation he’d had with Edward. Had she seen him acting different too?
before isa even left her home , she’d gotten into a bit of a disagreement with her parents and it was because they wanted her to stay home. she wasn’t going to allow that ; it made her feel like the most vulnerable , inadequate woman. she does not even recall the last time she was able to escape from security. it’s happened a couple of times. what she wanted to do was avoid making eye contact from prying eyes. considering that both arlo and isadora were out in public , she lightly hugged him and closed her eyes for a moment , slipping from his embrace shortly after. isa smiled and gestured and whispered a sincere thank you. what would she do without arlo ? the redhead cleared her throat so she wouldn’t sound like she was dying on the inside. “ i mean , i do have some sense of style , don’t i ? ” she chuckled and looked down , proceeding to fix his tie , making him look dapper as always. “ arlo , you don’t have to. you’re such a delightful presence but ... ” isadora paused. “ wine sure sounds comforting and they would love some take out tonight. shall i ask ‘em what they want ? ” she inquired , chuckling softly. that particular morning , their last one together , seemed far too much like the last she would have with edward and it didn’t come to mind until recently ; that ruined her.
“Sophie?” The Texan called out as he stepped out of the dressing room of Saks, his personal assistant, and personal shopper as he’d deemed her earlier in the week seemingly vanished while he’d been in the changing room. The subtle drawl of muttering lost as he glanced around for a salesperson. “Ah,” he pointed out with a smile, “Excuse me,” Arlo waved slightly, pants tailored to fit perfectly, along with a shirt that left little to the imagination. “Mind if I get your opinion on something?” He asked, blue eyes sparkling and a smile lingering at his lips, “This one, or this one?” He asked holding up a few ties to his neck. “And don’t say either one, this is very important business.”
isadora needed to buy her father a tie , so she decided to make a quick stop at saks fifth avenue. why didn’t her mother come alone ? mrs. reeves didn’t want to be spotted out and about , but she'd do anything for them. they both came to d.c. for edward’s funeral after all. the woman had been reasonably quiet as of late ; that didn’t mean the woman wasn’t as observant. however , she did notice sophie from afar. she was lost in her thoughts , thinking about buying her parents a ‘thank you’ gift for coming all the way down from manhattan. she recognized that texan’s voice from anywhere. she looked up and slightly smiled , “ of course. ” isa looked over at the few ties he held up to his neck and reached out for one of them. “ i like THIS pale blue tie ; it’d look fantastic on you. ” isadora whispered then sighed , realizing her hands were trembling and held them close to her chest ( after wrapping the tie around his neck ).
