“Thanks, but no thanks. I’m just looking for a Dark ‘n Stormy.”
His eyes lit up at the drink request. “Fantastic choice! Good drink, that is.”
“I’m not fond of Cosmos, just a rum and coke,” Jackson answered, giving the male a sympathetic smile. “I would have thought that was more a New York drink. I thought people here were more adventurous.”
Winston returned a wry smile to the attractive man, across the bar. “Why, you know, I thought that too. But here I am complaining about it.” He chuckled. “Your rum and coke.” He spoke, as he presented the drink.
“Trust me, this is my first actual drink in about two weeks and I’m in need of something much better than a Cosmopolitan. Let me get a Sazerac.”
He got to work on making her drink, with a smile. “Delightful.”
“I’ll have a whiskey, and he’ll be paying – and he’ll just have a beer.” She smiled at the bartender. “I think you need something plain and simple.”
Winston looked around, a bit confused. “Eh... alright. Who is he? Who am I serving? I just need to abide rules, naturally.”
“There’s some things that can be fun to do over and over again,” James smirked. “Thanks, man,” he said, taking a sip of the drink and giving the man a thumbs up in approval.
“Hm, like what?” He smirked right back, with a wink. If someone attractive entered the bar, Winston felt it only appropriate to flirt. “My pleasure.”
Sitting on a bar stool with a book in hand, Mia glanced up the moment she heard a voice. It was early, but it was never too early to be sitting in a bar, especially while reading Poe’s greatest hits. “So, does that mean if I order a coffee you’ll be able to provide?”
He grinned at the girl, reading Poe of all things. “Yes, indeed. Regular, or with a kick - you decide.”
“It could be worse, you could be pulling beers all night. Now that is boring…I’ll have an Old Fashioned.”
“Repetition is boring, with just about anything. An Old Fashioned? That I can do.” He worked his magic, preparing the drink and setting it in front of the man.
“oh um– whatever you have on tap.”
he turns back to the counter, chewing anxiously on the pretzels, praying the scuffle behind him doesn’t worsen.
Winston nodded, pulling their latest and greatest out for the shaky man in front of him. “You alright, mate?”
“Please order something interesting. I’ve made too many Cosmopolitans today, and I think I might scream.”
“could ya’ uh– say that again?”
the commotion around them seemed to be stirring and jamie couldn’t quite focus on anything else but that at the very instant.
“I was just wondering what you’d like to drink?” Winston looked at the man, curiously. Something seemed to be a bit off, and he was immediately intrigued.
Sebastian heaved a sigh as the clock struck eleven p.m., boredom having flooded his veins for the past hour and a half. The place appeared to be void of any sort of amusement that night. That was the precise moment he decided to turn to the person sitting beside him and strike up a drunken conversation. “I’m considering quitting everything I know and picking up a career in bartending. What d’you think?”
It was Winston’s night off, and so he found himself on the other side of the bar, nursing a whiskey drink, staring off into space. It was dull but he was tired and didn’t feel like being alone, again. His head was throbbing, just a bit. And then the attractive man next to him spoke, and Winston turned, almost curiously. “Well, considering I am in fact a bartender, I would warn you off of it.”
“I should have this engine all fixed up in a jiffy. Unless there was something else good ole Sam could do for you.”
“That’s perfect, thanks. I’ve got to get this thing purring before my boss realizes his car is fucked.”
