My mother and I created it together. It’s her first show. Im incredibly proud of her. And I’m grateful she entrusted me to carry our her vision in my own way. 

It’s my take in an authentic Black couple who's passed the honey moon stage and into the thick of their relationship. They don't sugar coat, they don't tip toe, They just exist in that ordinary, weird, fun place that only real lovers understand. 

I choose to show us as universal, human, as Black, as love.... as us.

It stars Tyree Elaine &  Harold Warren.

In late 2014 a Beautiful Dark Brown natural hair plussize Single mother was introduced to screens around the world as the leading lady of her own show in #BecomingNia. She was played by my sister @bebeautifulla It was an honor to not only create the series and develop the charcters but also write & direct 7 of the 8 episodes that aired on the web bringing in views of more than 340k. This series tackled body image issues, co parenting, dating w/ children and financial hardship authentically and honestly. Tears, Fears and Cheers were shared from audiences all over the globe who finally felt represented and understood. I dont think Shawanna Davis (who actually created the title #BecomingNia) nor I ever guessed that our lil shoe string budget show would ever end up as part of a teaching curriculum. We are honored and grateful to provide a platform for our community to positively build from. Im glad to announce that both @bebeautifulla and @mybeardbelike will be back on screen together again this fall in a new series that ill be directing called #FML Thank you #spellmancollege for SEEING us
