WHO: Matthew Casey & Gabriela Dawson

WHEN: Late night Tuesday July 9, 2013.

WHAT: Gabriela comes over in some hopes of giving Casey some actual food and a mood boost.

Matthew Casey

Matt knew that he reeked of beer. He’d spent the better part of the day drinking, in an attempt to numb the pain. He felt guilty about a lot of stuff, he felt guilty about not being able to save Hallie, he felt guilty about not being able to see her family and talk to them face to face, what made him feel even worse was the undeniable feelings he also had for Gabriela. The firefighter looked at his hands as he glanced over to the table that had half of a 24 pack left from the past few nights. He grabbed the empty beer cans and tossed them into the recycle bin before trekking his way over to the bathroom to change out of his clothes and shower.

As the water poured down his face he finally allowed himself to cry in the comfort of his own home. He knew that he was going to need to suck it up fast because Gabriela was going to be coming over soon. As he heard the doorbell ring, Matt stepped out of the bathroom, and buttoned his pants as he grabbed a random shirt. He opened the door as he threw it over his head and slipped his arms through it. 

"Hey," he said, sheepishly as he stepped aside for her to come in. “How’s studying been going?" he asked, not wanting to leave room for the awkward silence that threatened to pour over, or at least in his mind threatened to pour over.

Gabriela had turned away from the door and was looking around the neighborhood as she waited for Casey to come to the door, thinking about the last few weeks. Lately, it had been all she could think about. She'd been on a weeks long vacation the past week and she thought it was what she needed, but she hated doing absolutely nothing all the time. It was painful. She didn't do well with sitting still and doing absolutely nothing.

She turned her head when she heard the door open and she took in Casey's appearance. It was obvious that he - like her - had just taken a shower, but she was sure she could still smell the alcohol on him. The brunette licked her lips when he asked how studying was going. She let out a light laugh as she stepped into his house, noticing the take out containers all around the place, sighing softly. 

The last time she had been here, it had looked exactly like this - actually, she was pretty sure she saw that pizza box the last time she was here weeks ago. "It's going obviously well, since I'm here." Gabriela said with a light laugh, holding the bags of groceries in her hands. "Clear a space off so I can put these down?" She asked in hopes of making a joke.

S: That's coming from the person who's still avoiding Peter Mills as best as she can.

G: Hey, I tried to talk to him... He didn't want to talk to me. Maybe I should have just lied and said I didn't have feelings for Casey still.

G: I thought you weren't drinking since you decided to get pregnant?

S: Let's not talk about this whole baby thing, okay?

G: You're gonna have to talk about it sooner or later, but I will drop it for now.

S: Girls' Night? You know I could really use a drink or two.

S: Yeah, I know. What would a week without exotic snakes, aggressive dogs and overly touchy drunk people be like?

G: Really boring. I'm going out of my mind right now. I thought it would be nice to have time to focus on school, but...

G: I'm just really, really bored.

WHO: Matthew Casey & Gabriela Dawson

WHAT: Gabriela comes over in some hopes of giving Casey some actual food and a mood boost.

Gabriela Dawson

After her conversation with long time friend (and almost boyfriend) Matthew Casey, Gabriela Dawson pushed a loose strand of her hair from her face and smelled her shirt, making a face. She hadn't showered recently, mostly because she had been studying for a test and trying to finish her paper. A part of her knew she should stay in her apartment and try to finish this paper, but it was Casey. 

Gabriela stood from her couch and walked back to her bathroom, jumping in the shower. Even though this was the furthest thing from a date, she didn't want to go over smelling like a trashcan. She knew that Casey was having a hard time from Hallie's murder - how could he not they were just beginning to get their relationship back. 

After exiting her shower, Gabriela walked into her bedroom to change into loose jeans and a t-shirt. She had no idea what she would cook for Casey, hell she wasn't exactly sure what was in his kitchen, so she grabbed a few grocery bags and filled them up with her own food. Gabriela walked out of her apartment and walked down to her car, setting the bags in her backseat before climbing in and beginning to drive to Casey's.

Since her break up with Peter Mills (and his failed attempt to run away from her by attempting to join the police force), she hadn't really sat down and just talked to Casey since the funeral and visiting him once or twice. To be honest, she hadn't really spoken with anyone but Leslie Shay. There was an unspoken awkwardness between the whole squad after the break up with Mills. Only time would be able to tell if that would ever go away.

Once she arrived at Casey's house, Gabriela parked her car next to the sidewalk in front of his house and left her car. Upon walking up the sidewalk and the front steps, she rose her hand up and knocked on Casey's door.
