Sunday Special |The Magic of Colour Correcting|

If you’re like me, you’ve had an unfortunate break out of acne just at the same time that something exceedingly important is coming up – maybe it’s a wedding, a job interview, an important date. It always happens at the most unfortunate of times and you want to do everything you can to cover it up the best that you can, so you can still look your best.

Now, you’ve probably done the conventional route of using layer after layer of concealer and foundation, which only ends up making the breakout worse when you finally remove all those layers, trust me, I’ve been there. You want to do everything that you can to try and cover that monstrosity up, but applying layer after layer only makes it worse. When it comes to breakouts, less is more – which is where colour correcting comes in.

Is that acne breakout as bright as Rudolph’s nose? Colour correct it.

You have an unfortunate looking bruise on a part of you face? Colour correct it.

Maybe you have sallow looking skin or those bags under your eyes are heavier than you thought they were? Colour correct it.

Honestly, whatever the skin condition that you may be having an issue with covering, there is a colour that you can use to correct it.

Most of you will know the most important one already. Green corrects red – this is a pretty big staple in the makeup world. You have colour correcting sticks and every colour correcting palette has at least one green in it, but did you know that yellow will correct any purple bruise that may have found its way onto your face (please seek help though if it was through an act of violence) or that orange will correct an unfortunate curling iron burn (done that one several times) or that purple will help with that yellow complexion (though you should really go see a doctor to do something about long term).

Colour correcting may seem difficult for those you that are just starting out, but honestly it is probably one of the least complicated steps when applying makeup – if you look at the colour wheel that I provided for you below, you’ll see just how easy it is.

When trying to figure out what colour you can use to correct your skin blemish, you want to look for the colour that is complementary of the colour that needs to be corrected. This means that you want to look for the colour on the opposite side of the wheel. It’s that easy. No need to over think it. That’s it.

My Review: The first thing that I am going to say is that I did not spend any money on this product - it was a part of the birthday gift that I get as a Sephora Insider member. I had heard about Kat Von D’s products and I had seen them when I have done my (almost) weekly browsing on Sephora’s website, so when I got the choice of getting a mini kit I jumped at the chance. In the spirit of honestly,  I had no idea what to expect from it. 

When I started using this product, it was as an under eye setting powder (the container that I received in the sample kit is much too small to use it as anything, but) and at first I really didn’t notice much of a difference from Cinema Secrets Ultralucent Setting Powder (the review for which can be found here) - it was light weight, I didn’t notice any weird textures, it felt smooth, it set my under eye concealer nicely and it lasted until I was ready to take it off. Things that I was already used to thanks to my other translucent setting powder. 

Overtime however, I noticed a few things that wasn’t getting out of the Cinema Secrets one. I didn’t need to worry about using too much product, because it blended out nicely and it didn’t cause any weird creases under my eyes if too much product had been applied. The setting powder didn’t leave behind too light of a finish, it blended quite nicely with my skin tone. 

The only problem that I do have with this product is the packaging. Now, it could just be the small sample size that I have (and trust me, I am hoping that’s the case), but when I open the container it seems to have spilled through shaker holes and into the lid despite the fact that it never ended up upside down in my makeup case. 

Overall, this is a great product - a little expensive for my taste. I once again feel like if I were to buy this product I would be buying it for the brand name instead of the actual product. It’s a product that works the way it’s supposed to, but I don’t want to be spending almost fifty bucks for a 0.67oz container and then pay shipping. The product may be worth it, but I just can’t justify it.

Announcement |2019 11 18| Look of the Day Schedule Changes

Hi Everyone, 

Last Friday, I mentioned that I had a huge meeting and that if it went well it would mean some major changes to this blog - when I said that I specifically meant scheduling changes. 

Thanks to that meeting, as of November 25th I will no longer be self-employed, which means that I will no longer make my own hours, which means that I will have less time to work on this blog on a daily basis. I will still however be working on it on a weekly basis - I will just have to do it after my regular working hours.

Due to this, our weekly schedule will see a major change. This will be the last week of Look of the Days because they will now become the Look of the Week - instead of posting a new look daily, I will be posting one weekly (much like I would with the weekly manicures and product reviews). I am still not sure which day they will be posted on. Since next Monday is scheduled to be a muse tribute for Katie Cassidy’s birthday, I will most likely post it on the Monday, I am just not sure about every week after that.

I’m thinking that what I might do is scatter the posting from Monday through Friday until I find one that fits or I’ll have a set posting day and any sort of tribute that may be scheduled for that week will posted on the actual day it was scheduled for. 

Weekly Manicure, Product Reviews and the Sunday Specials will stay on their normal scheduled days for the foreseeable future. 

Thanks so much for being understanding through these last few weeks of cancellations.

Product Review | Maybelline New York Tattoo Brow Easy Peel Off Tint |

What It Is:

Tattoo Brow Peel Off Tint is an easy tint that leaves brows perfectly defined and evenly filled for up to 3 days.

Benefits:

Brows are tinted and conditioned, gradually and evenly fading over time.  

How to Apply:

Step 1: Clean your brows and apply our Tattoo Brow tinted semi-permanent eyebrows over your existing brow hair. If any mistakes are made or you need to reshape, use a cotton bud to easily remove your Tattoo Brow before it sets.

Step 2: Leave your brows to set for at least 20 minutes. For super long wear, set the product for up to 2 hours.

Step 3: Using your fingers to peel off the Brow Tattoo semi-permanent eyebrows by starting at the inner corner of each brow. The tint will be revealed underneath, giving you naturally fuller looking brows.

Please note: To make the most of your long-wear tint, try to avoid exfoliating or harsh cleansers. (Source)

My Review: The first thing that I am going to say about this product is that it doesn’t exactly work the way that you would expect it to. I mean, it works exactly as the manufacturer says it should – you apply it, it’s easy to remove should an error happen, it sets rather quickly and you are left with ‘naturally fuller looking brows,’ but that’s where the problems with this product start.

Going with the minimum twenty minute drying time, you are left with perfect looking brows that, with this specific version, end up oxidizing over time allowing them to get darker and darker as the day goes on, leaving you with a much more dramatic brow than what you may have been looking for. You end up going from a medium coloured looking brow that compliments your natural hair and complexion properly to a stark dark brow that looks like you applied a product that may be too dark for your skin. To avoid this, you may want to buy a shade brighter than you would normally go.

There is also a slightly red tone to the product. I personally love this because the tone allows for my eyebrows to match with my hair that I have been dying red for years now, but for those of you that don’t have a red tone to your hair, it doesn’t exactly bode well if you’re thinking about using this product.

Now, I am not going to lie to you. I enjoy using this product despite most of the issues that it does have. It allows me to spend less time working on getting that perfect brow and a little more time working another facet of my morning routine, especially on those days where I am extremely crunched for time and still want to have eyebrows when I go out. However, the three day promise that the manufacturer lives by on this product does not exist.

First off, if you only let it dry for a minimum of twenty minutes, you’re only guaranteed that it will last the day, which is fine because that’s exactly what it says on the box. But, if you let it dry for two hours or if you decide to, you can even let it dry overnight – this product still does not live up to the promise. According to the box, you should be able to use cleansers after twenty-four hours to allow for optimal results, but the moment that you do, the product begins to wash off and you may be left with an orange tint where your brows just were. I’ve had this happen more than once – even when it was just a twenty minute drying time.

Another thing I noticed was that when I would remove the peel with just my fingers, the peel would actually pull hair out and when you already have sparse brows, pulling necessary hair out is something that you want to avoid. I started to use a disposable mascara wand to remove the product to avoid this particular issue.

Overall, does this product have issues? Yes, some are avoidable, some need to be fixed, but would I still recommend this product? Yes, simple as that. It’s not a great product, but it is a product that works, you just need to be aware of the issues that you may face, so that you can try and avoid them.
