12 Roses
He sent her 12 roses one Saturday
those roses they took her breath away
so perfectly red
and a wonderful smell
why he did this
she could not tell
he was always so quiet in classes at school
he was called a “nerd” by the people called “cool”
well, they came w/ a card tied to the box
it said “Open the 23rd at 4:00″
why the 23rd, 12 days from now?
she wanted to open it right there and now
but she decided to wait and do what he said,
so she put them in water and went to bed
the next day at school she saw him in the hall
the guys were pushin him and finally he fell
they kicked him and hit him calling him names
but everyone kept walking for this happened every day
the 11th day was here and she could hardly wait
she wanted to open it before the next day
but she waited, cuz the note specifically said
that before the 12th day it could not be read
the next day at school she went to her first class
but she where he sat was an empty desk
the teacher walked in and forwardly said,
“class i’m so sorry, but Jason is dead”
she could not understand she was almost in tears
although they never talked she had known him for years
after school she ran up to her room
to see all the dead roses except one still in bloom
she picked up the note and held it to her heart
the tears were now pouring she tore the envelope apart
the note was short but touched her so deep
she read it out loud and weeped
it said: “you don’t know me, but i know you. We met on the playground in the 2nd grade, you let me have your swing. 6th grade you let me sit at your lunch table. This year, you picked up the books that I dropped. No one has eer loved me, but at least you care, and for you I leave a rose.”
she picked up the rose and held it to her nose
so perfectly red and a wonderful smell
it took her breath away she had to smile
there is not one day she doesn’t think of him
she just wised she had the courage to be this “nerd’s” friend
In my psychology class about peer relations bullying was a topic that was very close to my professor’s heart. He had made programs to help prevent bullying and help children who were being bullied. He thought it was going well until he heard several years later one of his student’s committed suicide. He went to the boys school and a girl he didn’t know handed him this poem i wrote out at the top. He kept doing his program for children like this girl. There is a glimmer of hope. Bullying is so psychological and damages children like you wouldn’t believe. Schools don’t do enough to solve the problem. This shouldn’t happen, it’s not fair. No one should feel like they are less than someone else repeatedly. We need to stop bullying.
