The story of the casting director who makes or breaks Judd Apatow movies.
And his editor.

Checking in on my 2015 goals
It’s officially Q2 of 2015. This means a lot for a lot of industries? (I think, to be honest I’m not totally sure) But whatever, I’m not an industry so it doesn’t mean much to me. However, I figured it was a good time to check in on my goals from 2015 and see what I think I’ve been doing and what I need to work on. Also it’s a good time to make new goals! Now, I’m going to strike things I think I’ve been doing BUT that doesn’t mean they’re done or that I should stop thinking about them. Goals are long term and once you reach them they shouldn’t be ditched. Okay anyway, here we go:
Care less about tangible things
Stop collecting said tangible things
Be more proud of myself
Stop being so hard on myself
Stop saying “I can’t do that”
Eat better
Meet someone who I really like
Be a better friend to more of my friends
Talk to people who I think are too cool to talk to
Curate my “content” better
Start doing new cool things
Stop apologizing for things that I don’t need to apologize for
Get better at tagging and growing my main tumblr
Be more confident in my opinions and words
Get better at cooking
Find my “good angle” in selfies
Get my nerves under control
Stop over-thinking what other people are doing
Stop being envious of others success
Learn how to do a pull-up
Meet more amazing ladies
Learn how to use photoshop
Ask better questions, ones that break what you think you know and gets to someone’s core
So far so good! Here are some new goals for Q2:
Use my phone less
Stop looking at the ground when I walk
Deadlift 200lbs
Become more comfortable with failure
Become more comfortable sitting still
Remember why I love New York so much
Be a better sister
Figure out why I always feel so tired
Try a class I’m too nervous to try
Do better at balancing my money
Order in less
Stop missing Copenhagen so much
A list of some things I liked this week (3.22 - 3.29)
Annnnnd I’m back. LA tried to keep me but here we are, in my bed in NYC. It was hard to narrow down almost three weeks worth of stuff I’ve been listening to, reading, and looking at. But I tried my best:
This beautiful vine of Kanye dancing.
This coat.
Speaking of style, Sienna Miller.
And also Harry Styles’ jacket collection.
The Tobias Jesso Jr. album.
Evan Rachel Wood modeling for Wild Fang.
The Another Round podcast that I literally can’t stop listening to.
This open letter to shitty Facebook friends, of which I have many.
This terrifying story of what it is like when your girlfriend suffers from a mental illness that makes her completely dissociate.
A guide to making a new Password.
The shrine BFF made for Zayn.
Sitting at the Chateau Marmont with friends.
When someone tossed a burger up to Louis mid-concert and he was just so fuckin’ excited.
My LA wardrobe.
This essay I wrote about women, fandom and One Direction.
Just a quick thought on fandom
Today Zayn left One Direction. It’s upsetting for a lot of reasons but I won’t discuss what it means for introverts or people of color or the music industry or Harry Styles. What I’d rather talk about here is how those who don’t like One Direction handled today’s events.
Fandom is a deeply personal thing. It’s one of the only spaces in society that women feel comfortable voicing their emotions freely. Unfortunately they aren’t as free as they feel. Fandoms are constantly poked and prodded. Is it because they’re “for women”? Attaching yourself emotionally to something is seen in society as an innately female thing to do. So like all things that girls love, it is thought of as shallow. Girls are told they’re overreacting, they’re too emotional, they should calm down. But they shouldn’t. They should be loud.
Fandom is amazing. It is a space for people to learn about themselves. It is a beautiful bubble where people can be creative and develop talents, whether it’s fan art or creative writing. It gives introverts and girls who might feel weird something to talk about with someone else in their class. It breeds community and togetherness. Some of my best friendships have developed out of a mutual love of the same celebrity.
We have to stop telling girls that this is dumb. We have to stop saying that caring about something is foolish. Every year sports teams shuffle around their players and sports fans freak out. Their favorite player gets traded, someone decides to stop playing. How is this different? Why are we told what we are feeling is less than? Why are we told that we’re over reacting? The feeling of loss here is very real and we need to stop shoving it under the rug. We need to allow people to feel their feelings free of judgment. So next time that you cry over a Cowboy or freak out over a shitty casting in a Marvel movie, remember that your likes and dislikes are just as stupid and important as anyone else’s. If you need me I’ll be listening to Spaces and crying because I can and should.
Note: I wrote about this for BuzzFeed! If you'd like more/something shareable with beautiful fan art check out buzzfeed.com/mackenziekruvant/please-respect-zayn-and-my-privacy-at-this-time

A list of some things I liked this week (2.23 - 3.1)
This ~thinkpiece~ on #thedress and why it was so successful for BuzzFeed.
The great llama chase of February 26, 2015.
This beautiful story of a trans woman's first day living the life she always dreamed of.
Robert Pattinson in a suit.

Ellie Goulding is just amazing in general, tbh. Listen to her freakin' voice!
Erika Linder announced that she's launching a unisex clothing line and I'm dying.
Kim Kardashian being fierce as fuck.
This very interesting look at Bruce Jenner's decision to transition while in the spotlight.
I think discussing the link between femininity and the feeling of self-worth is an important discussion to have. Too often girls feel that they're not good enough because they're not fem enough. I hope that we see more honest essays, like this one by Kaye Toal, so that one day girls will feel confident being who they are.
These GIFs that just confirm that Harry and Niall are #relationshipgoals.
This honest and beautiful piece about dating while fat.
Femsplain got funding this week and it confirmed that the internet is moving forward, toward a safe space for women. I'm so excited.

This reminder (as if you need one) that white men rule the internet and are horrible BUT that it won't always be this way.
Aziz Ansari's beautiful obit for his friend and co-producer, Harris Wittles. Warning: it will make you sob.
Energy by Drake from his new mixtape that I haven't stopped listening to since it came out.
The Beckhams' general existence that makes me want to be a wife and mom and stuff?

This adorable photo of Zayn and his goddaughter.
Robert Pattinson slaying in a suit.
Kim Kardashian at Kanye's show.
The new pair of shoes I got and will wear until they fall apart.
Also that Harry Styles cut out.

There are two stories I tell my friends when they get upset about being single. This meet-cute will join those stories. It's perfect in every way.
Happy Valentine's Day To The Single But Not Alone
Today is Valentine’s Day and it’s stupid. It’s not stupid because I’m single. It’s stupid because society tries to tell me that that means I should find this day upsetting. But it’s not upsetting because this year I’m filled with love. It doesn’t come from someone making me dinner or sleeping in my bed. Somedays that’s a bummer. Somedays that’s more than a blessing. The love this year comes from the soul-mates that I’ve met. In the last few months I’ve gotten to know people who I can tell are great loves of my life. They push me forward and make me feel happy to be myself. I’m surrounded by positive energy and I could not be more blessed because of it.
The second reason Valentine’s Day is stupid is because your valentine should always be you. I know that sounds corny BUT it’s true and you should listen to it. You should always love yourself the most. WAY more than anyone else in your life. Like maybe 3 to 4 times more. I’m not really sure, ask a therapist for the exact numbers. You should always value yourself and treat yourself well. On your worst days, you should work with your mind and body but never be hard on yourself. On your good days, you should congratulate yourself for your strength and talents. These good vibes aren’t meant for one day a year. They’re meant for always.
This year for Valentine’s Day I did/will do the following for my valentine:
1. Go to the gym
2. Take selfies
3. Go grocery shopping
4. Fix the broken lightbulb in the lamp in my apartment
5. Eat lunch
6. Read all the things I want to read
7. Go to the movies
8. Maybe go to a party if I feel like it but not go if I don’t feel like it
A list of some things I liked this week (2.2 - 2.8)
It blows my mind that anti-semitism is still something that exists in 2015. At times it can be downright scary. Here is an example of how prevalent it is on the internet.
Speaking of things that should not exist in 2015. This story of how Rock Hudson asked Nancy Reagan for help during his last days fighting AIDS is so upsetting and unfair and I hope that one day these stories will be in the past.
On a not as serious topic, there is nothing that I liked more lately than the SONY leak. It was insane and amazing and here is how it happened.
Wet is one of my favorite bands even though they only have like four songs. Sometimes you just connect with something so totally and fully, ya know? It's basically all I listened to this week. Not new but so good.
Sometimes people say "I don't get how you're single" and I'll probably just send them this from now on.
And then call Kristen Stewart and ask her to be my girlfriend.
Like look at that face!
Speaking of beautiful people, Zayn's haircut is EVERYTHING.
And Channing Tatum's dance moves should probably be illegal.
Okay, Kanye was so good in the FourFiveSeconds video. He literally says "woke up an optimist," that is the best thing ever. ALSO MACCA IS IN THE FUCKIN' VIDEO, LIKE ARE YOU SERIOUS?!
This gif of Rih that I'll use for everything.
Also this vine from the video is so beautiful.
Sorry sorry one more thing about Kanye, look at this freakin' photo of him and Kim. Relationship goals.
And last but def not least, 1D has finally started their 80 date tour. So blessed.
A list of some things I liked this week (1.26 - 2.1)
This terrifying reminder that dating and men are horrible.
And that you that shouldn’t put up with it. #nofuckboys2k15
A world in which Leonardo DiCaprio was in Boogie Nights is a world I’m so happy we’ll never have to see but am equally happy exists somewhere.
I really love these shoes and they’re sold out in my size. This isn’t really the forum for this discussion but if someone wants to find them for me and also buy them for me, I’m a size 7. Love ya.
I have a lot of feelings. They are these.
They should probably add the new Kanye video to that list because like, omg.
This perfect perfect typo.
The Parenthood finale.
Oh also Empire.
I talk about missing Copenhagen a lot. It’s whatever, deal with it. Anyway, this article about why the Danes aren’t as happy as you think they are may only be interesting if you’re me or my mom or someone I used to text while I was eating candy in Tivoli but it’s very interesting and I liked it a lot.
There is going to be an incredibly cute 5 room hotel in Los Feliz (my favorite neighborhood in LA). I can’t wait to stay there.
This dog with a manbun.
And the fact that it’s Harry Styles’ birthday (just don’t ask me his age, please).
