How do global companies comply with UK law.
Do they withdraw from the UK market entirely? We are a big market, but not that big, and we need the big Tech firms more than they need us.
I would. Quite simply any company which has a stake in the UK could be pawned by the british state and unable to talk about it. This would not go down well in other countries where they actually care about priviacy (and it is enshrined in law).
If Google, Apple, Microsoft and IMB all said they would be unable to opperate in the UK if this law was enacted the goverment may listen. It would create a big dent in the UK economy, cost lots of tax income and look terrible politically.
The world is interconnected, and swiming against the flow with such things as civil liberties and privicy comes at a cost. Is it a cost that the goverment is willing to pay.
It is all well and good to talk about saving lives, but every pound this legislation costs could have been spent on the NHS or lifting people out of poverty or keeping a fire station open. Goverment cuts cost lives, how many lives is ‘security’ worth.
