Learn on Reports and Cases
It has been many days since the last time I posted a learning log. I and my classmates went so busy on preparing our reports, case studies and presentations. Each of the reports and cases have its schedules for presentations per week, and I was glad to take a one week break on preparing requirements since I was able to deliver my presentations on the first two weeks of the activity. Was it very exciting? 😊 Well, yes! But instead of sleeping early, I have spent more time working on projects in my company 😊, and during the last week of reporting, I was just a listener and sometimes commentating.
About our reportorial assignments, I chose to make a research about Green Computing. At first time, everyone became hesitant to choose this topic, but since I am the last one who need to pick, I have chosen this not knowing what it means. The topic seems hard because of the word computing. ☹ Then later I have realized with help of Mr. Google that Green Computing is the study and practice of designing, manufacturing, using, and disposing of ICT efficiently and effectively with minimal or no impact on the environment. In short, this is an activity to take care about our environment while using computers, and it has something to contribute on the sustainability value of the organization. Relatively, I am pro to the advocate on saving the mother earth, but then, I did not know about green IT and how it should be adapted by the organizations. As I have mentioned in my report, green computing can be adapted by the organization such as taking this into consideration in choosing IT equipment and implementing rules that promote energy conservation. Since we are now in the new world of business which computers are commonly used, the move to become more environmentally friendly is leading to a better corporate image. It is a means to cost reduction in terms of conserved energy and minimized waste. The individuals can also make their own ways to contribute in the preservation of the environment such as being responsible in disposing of gadgets that are not being used. Besides, some of the computer manufactures are promoting green IT products which is helpful.
My classmates also presented their reports which we have shared ideas about the topics based on our experiences in our respective organizations. Here are the following together with my insights.
1. Information Technology Service Management
In the organization, IT service plays an important role. In our company, we have our in-house IT service, support from the ServiceDesk personnel are available when called via telephone during office hours. Also, we have the accessible IT request forms at the intranet portal which being accomplished when need to ask for approval of the request and submitted through the ServiceDesk website where all requests are classified by its type. In other organizations, IT service is outsourced and one of the reasons is to transfer the risk for the uncontrolled events in providing the needed deliverables.
Actually, this is the first time I knew about these tools, that there are tools that social media accounts are managed in just one workspace. The social media tools are commonly used by the organization to identify the effectiveness of service based on what people posted on their social media accounts. These are helpful in some ways which social media becoming the environment where expressions are freely stated about anything.
3. Information Security Management
I have understood here the areas of security in the organization. This is one of the most important parts which the company must be focused and consider measures to keep everything at safe status. Thus, transactions being done inside and outside the organization relies the success on a strong security provided.
4. Software Life Cycle Process
Though I can say that I am familiar with this process, I was still enlightened of some points in relation to project management. And as going through the processes relative to my current job, I have worked from planning up to maintenance of the systems. This was challenging because in other companies, there are specified people to do the specific tasks per phases. I feel pressured in some ways, but I am motivated to work well for my family.
5. Capability Model Maturity (CMM)
Like the reporter’s expression, I also found difficulties in understanding what is CMM? Out of the 5 other reports of my classmates, this is the one which I am not familiar, and I cannot relate to my previous knowledge. But as explained, I have understood that this is a set-up process from immature to a mature process or disciplined one.
Aside from reports, we have also answered case studies which given individually and by group. To sum up my learnings about the case studies, it helped me think pertaining to its purposes in the organization. I might have the wrong answers, but this taught me to analyze more about the cases in real.
OMG! I thank God for His goodness. This has been my longest learning log on this subject ever… 😊
