Are your attempts to download sprites from our wiki resulting in gross crusty images? Well it’s not your fault and it’s not ours! But the good news we can get around Fandom’s stupid file compression system, and I, HackerLady YlimeGirl, will explain how.
Editors of the Fruity Rumpus Asshole Factor/Easter Eggs article this week may have found themselves inexplicably banned from editing the wiki due to an old spam filter which included such phrases as "john egbert's boyfriend", "dave strider's boyfriend", and "pepsicola". Rest assured that this outdated filter has been disabled and - hopefully - all of these bans have been reversed! Please continue to document all the fun little oddities you find over at www.fruityrumpus.com to your leisure.

We're happy to announce that Jonaya Riley and some other folks from the Hiveswap: Act 3 will be hosting an official panel, including answers to some of your questions to one of their writers/narrative directors!
Hey guys! It's been a couple years since we had big enough news to warrant posting an update to the MS Paint Adventures Wiki homepage, but we promise we've been continuing to work behind the scenes to keep the wiki user-friendly and up-to-date as the Homestuck universe and brand have continued to grow and change in that time.
There's still not a whole lot worthy of posting about on our end, but in the spirit of the month and to let you guys know we're still alive and doing fine, we thought we'd post a quick policy (non)update. As always, our forum (old and disused) and Discord server (newfangled and scary) are open to any discussion regarding this - or any other policy! - and we're always looking for new voices and contributors to the "#1 source for still talking about Homestuck in {{CURRENTYEAR}}."
How have you all been finding this new run of updates to the webcomic formerly known as Homestuck^2?
Dubiously Canon The Plot Point, or simply The Point, is “the location [under Earth C] which corresponds to the ”black hole“'s singUlarity”,
Need a quick refresher on what exactly Jane, Roxy and Calliope's plans are for this mysterious "Plot Point" after the 3 year wait? The wiki's got you covered!
i was invited to do a panel at the homestuck convention
it will be a general Q&A and an Act 3 Music Preview centered around Cridea and the in-game event Jeevik Week. I specifically asked Andrew for permission to share this and he gave the OK. I will try to post the HQ previews without me talking or stream sounds afterwards.
(he's referring to the online convention, Stuck At Home Con)
i'll make a new post with the links to the music previews when they go up, but in the meantime:
James very very vaguely alluded to "something" that is in the works that he is in charge of, which is presumably some sort of homestuck-related project.
He also explained that the homestuck 2.0 story was in fact really really boring, they were gonna do like youtube react type stuff, and then the person who was doing it quit and they couldnt use any of the footage. this isn't hiveswap related but it's an old fandom mystery that's finally been solved, so.
Cridea's lusus is a pistol shrimp (probably. he said "I think," so, grain of salt.)
Cridea is based on that sort of rich person who "cares about" global injustice from their private yacht. her private persona is also fairly different than her public one.
It's been a while since the last Hiveswappening, hasn't it? Well, this year @sahcon were lucky enough to get to show off some new screenshots of the upcoming third act, including a new look at the mysterious and popular Fiamet! And to cap it all off, @jamesroachmusic showed up to answer some questions and preview some of the game's new music, and surprised us with some concept art of the equally in-demand Cridea Jeevik.
Highbloods and sea dwellers have a "feud [...] codified in tradition" are "obligated to be at odds"; even a stickler like Equius doesn't feel the need to obey the commands of a member of the sea dwelling race.
If you like the MSPA Wiki, maybe you like finding out new things or remembering old things about Homestuck; one of the wiki mods has set up this new blog for exactly that purpose, and it's already open to any questions or suggestions you might have!
The long, long, long awaited Hiveswap: Act 2 is set to hit Steam shelves in just a matter of days; on the 25th of November, to be exact!
And naturally, when this happens, we’re anticipating something of a storm of edits adding new information to the wiki. And we expect a lot of these edits will be made by new users of the wiki, users who haven’t made any edits in a long time, or users who’ve been using the wiki for a long time but were yet to make their first edit! To help all these members of our community out, we’ve added a handy rundown to the front page of some important things to keep in mind when adding Hiveswap: Act 2 information to the MS Paint Adventures Wiki! So let Hiveswaperation: EDIT STORM begin!
To celebrate the occasion, we’ve also decked out the entire wiki in a fancy new Hiveswap theme. This is the first time the wiki has had a makeover in a long time, and we’re pretty happy with it, so let us know what you think!

So, the last few hours the wiki was the target of a group vandalism effort. As a result, the wiki has been temporarily been locked so that only logged-in users can edit. So, now feels like as good of time as any to list out some helpful reminders!
Don’t vandalize the wiki. I hoped this one was obvious.
If you do see that someone has vandalized the wiki, don’t respond to it with more vandalism. As in editing the page to add comments of “Someone deleted the page, admins plz bring it back!” or “lmao wtf did i just read”. These are just counter-productive and get all of us nowhere. If you do see vandalism, either go into the edit history and revert the vandalism yourself, or feel free to let us know on our Discord.
Also, if you don’t like one of our policies, feel free to bring it up with us on our Discord. Vandalizing and edit-warring because you don’t agree with a policy doesn’t help your case at all. In fact, it kind of hinders it!
We do not control the speed at which lobsters die. As in, if you don’t like something about the comic/game/story itself, you complaining about it via vandalism will change absolutely nothing, other than wasting everyone’s time.
Anyways, we plan to re-enable anonymous edits soon. Sorry for the inconvenience.
The Homestuck^2 team made the recent decision to remove all existing content warnings from chapters and not add any more in the future. They added a vague list to the FAQ instead, but it is non-exhaustive based on the previous warnings.
I haven’t seen an official announcement from them on this policy change anywhere, but I thought it should be noted in some sort of capacity.
Have you thought of migrating the wiki outside fandoom? Honestly they seem to be more trouble than they worth it
It’s a noble idea, and I appreciate the sympathy for our roadblocks with Fandom, but talking about it internally with the other staff today there’s a number of reasons that it would ultimately backfire on us.
The first thing TS checked was a page that apparently used to be for exporting a whole wiki, but now apparently can only export individual pages. Considering our volume of content that would. Take some time.
The next question would be then where we import those exported pages to. The only other major wiki system I could think of is gamepedia - aside from the fact that we don’t primarily document videogames, gamepedia has an upcoming merger with fandom anyway. Which is further proof of the existing broad observation that Fandom certainly seems to have a monopoly on pop culture wikis.
If we were to make our own mediawiki, the server would necessitate money to host and ability to maintain that none of us really have. Bulbapedia may have the kind of resources to pull that off, but we do not. If we did, Fandom would also actively suppress any announcements we made on their site about migrating. We could post it on the tumblr and discord here, sure, but not every user checks these places. This also leads to a tanked Search Engine Optimization, I think, possibly making our new wiki harder to find.
All of that aside, even if we smoothed all that over and made the move, all existing user accounts would be useless - everyone including probably staff would likely have to make new accounts just to edit the wiki at all, and the old user links on the page history and talk pages would be a mess.
Fandom has its problems, as does YouTube for example. But when you’ve hosted something in the same place for 10 years and don’t have the best resources to move, it’s easier to leave it where it is and hope/ask for improvements.

Let’s start with the .PNGs, specifically this file. Oh hey btw did you know that you can’t view those file pages if you’re not logged in wtf fandom??? But anyways right clicking on that (or any image appearing on a page) will get you to this lovely easy to remember URL looking something like this: https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/mspaintadventures/images/e/ec/John_Egbert2.png/revision/latest?cb=20160517194150 Ah, beautiful. Let’s just download that suck--
WELL THAT DOESNT SEEM RIGHT. Don’t recall any compression artifacts appearing in that sprite when I read the comic. What gives??
Well, if you are logged into fandom and on the file page, you can hit this button which I have emphasized using some subtle markings
And get to this URL instead: https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/mspaintadventures/images/e/ec/John_Egbert2.png/revision/latest?cb=20160517194150&format=original
Wow that’s a real roundabout way to do it fandom thank you. Anyways let’s see if this worked...
Huzzah! Success! Victory! We have thwarted Fandom!! Take that!
Alright, let’s use these skills on our next file, a .GIF, all we have to do is hit that butt--
Hey, where’d it go? That’s no good, especially since this image is also looking crusty*:
(*well, if you use firefox at least. attempts while using chrome resulted in an unfucked image here, so who knows man. #firefoxphobia)
Have no fear, just open that image up in a new tab and get that easy to remember URL https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/mspaintadventures/images/c/cc/JadeDress.gif/revision/latest?cb=20110814203737 and use what we learned from John_Egbert2.png to get what we want!
Slap a "&format=original" on the end of that sucker, resulting in this URL https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/mspaintadventures/images/c/cc/JadeDress.gif/revision/latest?cb=20110814203737&format=original and this lovely lovely lovely unfucked image!
Beautiful. Gorgeous. Stunning. Magnificent.
tl;dr add "&format=original" to the end of image URLs to actually get the images as they were originally uploaded and not compressed to hell and back
Apparently Google is responsible for the file format Fandom is using to commit these crimes and as I live in their basement I’ll make sure to give them some constructive feedback on this :)
Also Fandom hates visitors who don’t have accounts I guess but this method works logged out too as long as you have the file URL
