Hey guys.. I don't like making posts like this but ! My college canceled one of my scholarships out of the blue. I don't know what happened and I'm trying to figure out what to do. the idea that there must be a transmasc equivalent to each tgirl experience is, fundamentally, oppositional sexism. transmasculinity and transfemininity are two separate social organs, the idea that one is neccesarily a mirror image of the other is misogyny, and further transmisogyny. anyway T4T means transfem 4 transfem

ah yes. because transmascs do not have any reason to prefer trans4trans relationships, and otherwise would not ever experience attraction or dating this way. agree with the rest of the post in the sense that we are Different In Many Ways and need different language and communities. but struggling to wrap my head around why this means "trans4trans" is exclusive

oh no yeah, you're right, it would suck if you had a word that meant 'a relationship between people sharing a specific oppression' and it got taken away from you. that would suck if you couldn't use that word any more, right. yeah like if there was a term that referred to a specific type of oppression, and then the meaning of that term got changed so that you couldn't communicate in that way any more, it would be bad. would hate to deprive you of that.

I'm curious where the meaning of t4t exclusively meaning "transfem4transfem" comes from? I've only started seeing that interpretation in the last couple weeks, the past few years prior only ever seeing it interpreted as just "trans4trans"

You've got a limited perspective on it, essentially. You're seeing the tgirl response to a status quo that you didn't see get imposed. The etymology goes:

Circa Y2K you have T4T as 'tranny for tranny' in online hookups. Term spreads online among tgirls, and, since counterculture is fun, you end up with it getting popular on social networking, like tumblr. It's a useful concept, too. Really important for some girls, actually. But, now, since it's a social networking site, and everyone wants to participate, it's 'trans for trans', to be inclusive.

TME trans people want to describe their attraction to other trans people as 't4t' - but, to remind ourselves, that very much was not what the term meant when it was coined, and would certainly have caused confusion if it were used as such. The meaning of a term used by tgirls was changed, by TME people, to accomodate TME people. It became effectively impossible for tgirls to continue using it to communicate in the same way.

The real question ought to be 'where the meaning of t4t exclusively meaning '"trans4trans" comes from', but everyone only sees the response to a state of things they deem normal.
