9-1-1 screen time commentary…

This is long, so feel free to scroll… (especially if you only watch 9-1-1 for Buck)…

Athena is not my favorite character (Bobby is 🥰), but for those who need to hear it, she gets what she gets because she’s Angela Bassett, and her screen time is not even comparable to Rob Lowe’s on Lone Star. Athena was barely in 8x06.

Also, the online community didn’t seem to have an issue with her screen time until it meant less for Buck (and as a result Buddie which isn’t even a real thing 🙄).

S1, S3, S4 (especially), S5, and S6, Buck dominated. He actually received more screen time than Athena in all those seasons (not sure about S6 because those minutes were never tallied, but it’s no secret S6 heavily featured Buck). S6 finale in particular was all about him, and that was almost the series finale.

Also, the “it’s been a Bathena-focused premiere for the last 4 years” comments confuse me. S7 being the exception. Like 8x01-8x03 were Athena heavy, but Bobby’s main role did not come until 8x03. 7x01 was balanced, 7x02 and 7x03 were Bathena heavy. That said, they were sharing a lot of their screen time with side characters, and other than the almost drowning scene, they barely had any meaningful dialogue (in 7x02). Meanwhile, 6x01 was balanced, 6x02 was Hen heavy, and 6x03 was Athena heavy with Bobby as a side character. Finally, 5x01 and 5x02 were balanced-ish with Athena having the most overall, and 5x03 was Athena heavy (12 minutes compared to Bobby’s 3 minutes).

So people can argue Athena dominated, but not Bathena. And once again, she’s Angela Bassett, and once again, no one online seemed to have an issue until it meant less for Oliver Stark.

Question about this week’s 9-1-1 episode…

I haven’t watched 8x06, but is it actually worth the IMDb.com rating of 8.7? Or is that just Buddie fans reviewing it highly since Buck and Tommy broke up?

Ahhh…the Bathena obsession is real. I did so well from mid-June to September too. But not anymore. Love them and need them on my screen every week preferably hugging and or kissing (to make up for the lack of it in 8x03). But 8x03 was still amazing. Not sure if they’ll be able to top that this season.

I have a lot of thoughts about 8x03 which I may or may not share later. But I do want to share this…Why are people saying this 3 parter was all about Bathena? Only 8x03 was. Like Bobby was barely in 8x01 and 8x02. 🤦‍♀️ Yes, Athena had a major role in each episode, but hello? She’s Angela Bassett. I just don’t get it.

Nope. Nope. Nope. The show cannot do this and then make us wait a week. But what if Bobby flatlines at the end of 7x10, and we have to wait months?! 😭That would be even worse. You’d think there would be news of a Peter Krause departure, but keeping it a secret is a sure way for the network to shock fans. I don’t like this at all.

I’m going to need people to stop complaining about the Bobby focus and Bathena focus this season. First of all, 7x01? Not a Bobby or Bathena episode. Plenty of Buddie/Christopher and Madney. Hen got the short end of the stick, but she arguably had more dialogue in 7x02 than Bathena (who I might add spent most of the episode separated).

Second of all, in 7x02 and 7x03 of the cruise ship story, there were barely any profound 1:1 conversations going on between Bathena. Yeah, we got good kisses out it, but they had to share the stage with several others. Meanwhile, in 7x04 through 7x07, there were many more meaningful and longer interactions happening. Only one Bathena scene had anything close to that (the almost drowning one in 7x02).

Finally, Peter has been sidelined since the start of S3 (unless you count the 3 episode Wendell arc). He is a lead, but has been playing supporting for 4 years. So it was time for him to get an episode focused on his character. And this was NOT a Bathena episode. The 2 had sweet moments, but let’s not act like the couple is taking over the show.

Oh, one more thing - People are like “This is a shortened season. Now isn’t the time to focus on one character.” Yet I’m sure if the character was Buck, we would not be hearing that. But also, I believe the shortened season is just an excuse. This season could be 18 episodes long, and there would still be people complaining because Buck is getting less than his usual significant amount (although I’d argue up until 7x08, he actually had more screen time or at least more dialogue this season than Bobby).
