Oof this whole situation with Freen got me fucked up. There's so many facets to it.
(Stop reading now if you aren't into Thai GL btw, imma ramble)
First and foremost, whoever took that video is a criminal and should be punished severely. Stalking is not okay, invading someone's privacy is not ok. Freen already has a panic disorder, this person has probably just made it 10x worse.
They also very possibly just destroyed her career, at least as a GL actress, which is frightening. But this person has also brought the truth to light. They absolutely didn't do a good thing, but they've revealed the truth about Freenbeck and IDF, so people are gonna react to it.
Plenty of people are going to call me a delusional shipper right now, and fair enough, they never outright said they were together. But no one can claim that Freen, Becky and IDF haven't been implying that they're romantically involved either. They want us to think it's possible because it boosts their profits, and that's fucked.
The video brings up so many issues with the entertainment industry across asia, and the idea of shipping as a marketing technique, particularly when it comes to the LGBTQ community.
We are a vulnerable group of people, constantly under attack, constantly in danger. When people pretend to be part of the community, or encourage others to think they are part of the community in order to get our money, our support and our love, it is SO hurtful. Not only are we being killed, beaten, raped, and rejected by our families around the world, now we're being used as money-cows too? Being manipulated and sucked dry like vampires.
I would encourage people to think clearly here also - there's no way in hell Becky doesn't know. She's not being cheated on; if Freen is in a relationship, there's no way Becky isn't already aware. That makes her equally culpable. Honestly if she and IDF claim that Freen's been "cheating" on her this whole time, there's no way I'll believe them. I'll think they're just cutting their losses and trying to rescue Becky's career as a GL actress by separating her from Freen.
I don't think FreenBecky are the masterminds behind this by the way, it's just what IDF encouraged them to do. It's what the BL/GL industry asks their idols to do as standard now, to fake being together in order to get our money and love.
If they were just honest about who they were from the start it wouldn't be a big deal: actors who play same-sex couples in the west aren't expected to pretend they're together. We still love them, and they still make a whole heap of money, and they never lie to our faces. We know what we're getting into and we accept it. That's how it should be. There's no reason to lie, we're desperate for representation. All we want is for people to treat us like we're worth something as human beings. This situation proves that IDF don't think we're worth anything but our money.
Don't forget too that when the little girl who played young Mon on Gap said (truthfully) that Freen had a boyfriend, IDF were going to force her and her mother to go on a live and apologize. They were going to punish a little girl and force her to lie to maintain *their* lie to the fans. It was only the objections by fans that stopped IDF doing it. THAT is *fucked* *up*. They were willing to screw up a little kid's life to cover themselves. How sick is that?
I don't hate Freen. I think she's very sweet, intelligent, and VERY talented (in fact I think she's an even better actor now than I used to because she kept up this pretense for so long and was really convincing). But I am hurt by what she, Becky, and IDF have been doing.
LGBTQ people just want to be respected and treated like we matter, for more than just our money. I don't care if Freen and Becky are not really together, I just care that they've been manipulating us from the first moment.
Also one last thought: Shipping up until now has always come from fans first and has always been about seeing characters that have chemistry and that reflect something within ourselves. Real person shipping used to be rare because real people weren't pretending to be together. This situation has been entirely manufactured by the industry. They stole shipping from out of our hands and they ruined it to manipulate us. I hate it.
