I'm just here. Writings shall be posted here. Fanfics and other bits. I'm old (80's baby) and grumpy so bear that in mind. There will be NSFW 🔞 stuff too so if you're a minor DNI. I will figure it out and block you.
There was a plan, it was a good plan, a great plan even! I was gonna have like 5 chapters up by now. Some angsty, some not. It was all so beautiful in my head. And that didn't happen cause life is a bitch and a bunch of stuff happened so I'm behind. And that's fine, I'll fix it, I'm just really tired.
Ok so I have another fic in the chamber. It's gonna be longer, probably chapters, so that's something to look forward to. Loosely inspired by Beauty and the Beast with some other elements applied. I want to get 2 chapters uploaded by the end of the week and hopefully it'll shake loose my block for the others I have. Ultimately I think it'll be 7 chapters but we shall see!
Ok so I have 6 wips and can't decide which to work on. All of em are AU's of various flavors and I want to work on them all! The struggle. Sigh. I guess I'll figure it out when I get home and can actually think.
I finally did it. Summer Crush Special. Lifeguard AU. Lifeguard Bucky and snack shack reader. I had to edit it like six times and I left some folks out cause they didn't work.
Word count: nearly 10k. Jesus.
Warnings: Fluff. Angst. Mentions of shitty exes. Ghosting. Cheating (not Buck or the reader). There is smut so bear that in mind. Nat and Steve show up a lot. Sam and Joaquin in passing. Sharon and Walker. I hope y'all enjoy this and if it sucks don't tell me.
Today is the day. Summer officially starts and you are stoked! This year you're working the snack stand at the pool and you just know it's gonna be great. Free food, after hours pool time if you wish and hopefully some cute guys to look at.
The clear blue water is flat as you walk through the entrance and toward the snack stand. Nat is standing by with two guys you don't recognize. The bright red shorts and white tank tops mark them as life guards. New ones from the look of it. Waving at her quickly you duck into the locker room to change into your swimsuit and your uniform over it.
Nat waves back and then smiles before jumping back into her presentation. "You guys are CPR certified so I don't think there's too much to really go over on that so how are your swim times?"
Steve reaches into his pocket and makes a face. "Shit. I think I left them in the car."
Bucky sighs and turns. "I'll get em. I'm faster anyway." Hopping down from the walkway he shifts into a light jog up toward the entrance.
You slide your sunglasses back over your face. Mind going to the inventory. Your boss had mentioned changing up a few things this year but you're new. Whatever she wants to do though you'll do it. Lost in thought you don't look up until your suddenly walking face first into a tank top clothed chest. Knocking you backwards with a soft yelp.
"Shit! I'm sorry. I didn't see you. Are you ok?"
You look up. Mouth going dry. Well damn. Hot guy. Very hot. Brown hair and blue eyes that look like a stormy sea. Oh shit. Swallowing hard you nod. Fucking hell. "Yeah. Yeah I'm ok. Not your fault. I was lost in thought. Are you ok?"
Play it cool Barnes. Play it cool. He gives a soft smile that makes his eyes light up. "Yeah. I'm James by the way. Friends call me Bucky." He offers out his hand to you.
You take his hand and softly shake it. Telling him your name when you finally remember what it is. "Nice to meet you Bucky."
"You too. So you work here?" He can hear Steve complaining. His voice carrying across the concrete to hurry up.
You push your sunglasses up onto your head. His eyes even bluer now. "Yup! Snack shack. Swing by if your hungry or thirsty. We have tokens for the life guards for free food."
"Got anything for extra charming life guards beyond tokens?"
You laugh softly and flip your glasses back down. "I guess we'll find out. Nice to meet you Bucky. I'll see you around." You turn and head back down the ramp. A little more sway in your hips. He's cute. Charming. But you know guys and their smooth words. You're not that easy.
Bucky watches you go. The sway in your hips is mesmerizing but it's your laugh that has him in a daze. "Damn. Challenge accepted sweetheart."
The whole day is hectic and loud but you've kept calm. Nachos and slurpees. Popsicles and candy. You dish up orders with a steady hand until the afternoon slump. Looking but not looking for Bucky. Catching sight of him in the life guards chair. Whistle dangling lazily from his fingers. You can see the hard planes of his stomach. The faint line of sweat that trails down. His arms. His thighs. Jesus it's like he's carved from marble and you need a break.
He knew getting this job was going to be interesting. He didn't anticipate how interesting though. Catching you watching him quite a few times makes him smile softly. So he does have your attention. Good. Hopping down from his seat he takes a step forward and dives into the deep end. Staying under the water until he comes to the shallow part. Rising slowly from the water and walking up the steps. Water sluicing down his chest and stomach as he runs a hand through his hair.
You can't help where your eyes wander. Honestly. It's just slow right now. Nothing else. Watching him dive into the pool. You nearly choke on air when he rises from the water. The little rivulets that trail down his toned chest. The way his shorts cling to his hips and thighs. Holy goddamn. Ok maybe you might be a little hot for the new lifeguard but you aren't about to let him know that. Looking away and down at the table you pretend to not notice the way he swaggers over.
He waits a beat before gesturing at the open seat. "This seat taken?" He's resolved to see how this plays out. Watching you off and on all day has painted a picture. You're kind. Helpful. Fucking gorgeous and you can handle stress. A very pretty picture.
You shake your head and nudge the chair with your foot. "Nope. How was your first day?" You're going to keep this casual goddammit. Yes he's hot. He seems nice. A flirt. That last part sets you on edge a bit. You don't mind flirting but you also know that you can, and have, read too much into it before. Your last relationship had been three years of lies and cheating. Austin had never hit you but he'd messed with your head. Only catching him when you came home from class too early. The picture of him and her, in your bed, seared into your memory.
He takes the seat and sprawls a bit. The fabric of his swim shorts riding up some. His fingers laced behind his head. "Not bad. A few kids were horsing around but no one went under so we're taking the win."
You smile and slide him a bottle of water. "Good. Those are the best days." You pull your sunglasses off and look at him. Really look. Yeah. This is gonna be hard. "Why lifeguard?" The question tumbles before you can think of a better one.
Bucky shrugs and leans forward. Taking the bottle and unscrewing the cap. "Steve mostly. He uh...he has a thing for Natasha. I guess they met in some class and he's gone on her."
You look away and spot Nat and Steve you're guessing. Nat smiling at something he said. Interesting. Looking back at Bucky you aren't sure what to do with that knowledge. You haven't been here that long after all. You transferred over the spring but couldn't get in til fall semester. "You guys all go to the college?"
Bucky nods. "Yup. Steve is an art major. I'm in engineering. We both play basketball." He doesn't know why he's telling you this but he is. And it's a conversation so he's going to take what he can get with a pretty girl "What about you?" Bringing the bottle to his lips to take a long drink.
Engineering. So he's smart and hot. God really does have favorites huh? Right. He asked a question. You shouldn't be watching his throat work. "Journalism. Well political science but journalism is the goal. And that's really boring. Sorry." You fiddle with the label on your bottle.
He shakes his head and sets his bottle back down. "I don't think so. Free speech is important. Telling the truth. Nothing boring about that sweetheart. A little dangerous maybe but the truth always is."
And he's insightful. Fuck. You can't help but smile a bit. A hint of mischief peeking through. "So is this the extra charm you were talking about earlier?"
Bucky leans forward a bit more and rests his elbows on the table. Smirk a bit crooked. "Depends on if it's working."
That gets a laugh out of you. He's cute. And he really is charming. "Yeah. It's working. You hungry? I can make you something special at the shack."
He gets to his feet and offers a hand out to you. "Starving. Lead on sweetheart."
It sort of becomes a thing. You work, make food for him and Steve sometimes and just talk. About school. Home. Whatever comes up. And the more you talk the more you crush on him. It's stupid really. Sure he flirts but he never pushes. He seems interested but it's hard to tell. And you kind of wish you knew for sure so your heart would calm down.
He asks for your number on a Wednesday. No flash or making a big deal out of it. Just a simple question. "Can I have your number? So we can talk outside of work."
You hold out your hand for his phone. Typing in your number quickly before you hand it back. "I make bad puns so just a heads up."
He laughs and puts his phone away. "Me too."
He texts like he's 90 but it's honestly adorable. Grinning at your phone when he makes a bad joke. He's gonna steal your heart at this rate.
You stroll into work with a new swimsuit and an eye on the sky. Dark clouds hover on the horizon but the weather app says no rain so you don't worry too much. Heading to the shack you see Bucky perched on one of the tables with two to-go cups. Grinning when he spots you. "Mornin' sweetheart. You want coffee?" You had mentioned wanting to try a new place through text but you hadn't had time yet.
You take the cup with a shy smile. Why is he so cute? And sweet! "Thanks Buck." Taking a careful sip you let out a soft groan, eyes closing in bliss. Chocolate mocha. Your favorite. He remembered. He actually remembered your favorite coffee. "You remembered."
He ignores the sound you make, barely, and pats the table beside him. He'd help you hop up but he doesn't want to cross any lines. "Course I did. I remember what you talk about." Books. Movies. Music. He remembers it all. Not in a creepy way but your words stick in his head like nothing else. Clearing his throat he looks up at the sky. If he looks at you with that cup in your hands it might actually break his brain. "Think it'll rain?" Today is supposed to be slow. Tuesdays always are. And with the threat of rain there might be an opportunity for you guys to talk more.
You look up and squint at the clouds. "I kinda hope it does. I'd like to just hang out. Do nothing for a day." Rain usually means getting sent home but maybe it doesn't have to be a bad thing?
He looks away from the clouds and back to you. His eyes catching on your lips. A little bit of foam under your bottom lip. "You have a little..." he gestures to your face. God if you get any cuter he's going to explode.
You reach up to swipe the foam away. "Still there?" The air suddenly feels electric but that could be the storm that wasn't supposed to happen. The sky getting darker by the second.
He nods. Fuck it. Reaching out to carefully get the rest of it he thumbs the foam away before popping it into his mouth. Whipped cream and something...you. The tension snaps tight. He could just say it. Just tell you that he's crushing on you but the sky has other ideas. A low grumble of thunder just before the sky opens up.
You don't know how to react to that. Your entire body suddenly hot and tense. The thunder snaps you out of it in a second. The cold slap of fat rain drops does the rest. "Shit. We better go inside."
You don't even think. You just reach for his hand and pull him into the snack shack. Flipping on the small light with a click. "It's not much but..." the small shack is simple. Fridge and small freezer. A microwave, a fryer and tons of junk food. The ancient slurpee machine humming in the corner. "At least we're not stuck outside."
He looks around at the snack and junk food before his eyes land on you. That tension is still there. "Cozy. A little cramped but still cozy." The rain pounds away at the roof of the shack. This isn't how he saw today going but being close to you is definitely a plus.
You grab a couple of milk crates and turn them over. Makeshift seats. You don't know how to break the tension so you don't. Taking a seat you opt for something lighter. "You never did finish that story about how you and Steve got benched last season."
Right. He should finish that. Taking the other crate he starts the story over. The tension less but still not forgotten. No. He's gonna be thinking about that for the rest of the day.
The storm becomes background noise to his voice. Laughing by the end of his story about Steve and him being benched. He has such a nice voice.
"So what about you? Any good stories?"
Good stories? Well shit. "Not good exactly but a story for sure." He scoots forward and rests his arms on his thighs. It would probably come up anyway so you launch into the story of Austin. The lying. The cheating. And the revenge you didn't plan but enjoyed way too much.
"I didn't even have to do anything really. I just stood there and watched them fight. All the lies. All the cheating. The best part was when her boyfriend overheard it. I can still see Austin flying through the air after Tyler punched him." A rumble of thunder shakes the shack.
The thought of someone cheating on you makes his blood boil. "Sounds like he deserved it. What a dumbass. How anyone could cheat on you...well he was an idiot." It's not an admission but damn it's close.
You lean back against the fridge with a soft smile. "He was an idiot. But in a way he did me a favor. Without him cheating I probably wouldn't be here. I wouldn't have met Nat. Steve." You sneak a glance at him. "You. So I'm glad he was a dumbass."
"Me too. I uh- I had a shitty ex. She tried to plan my whole life. We fought about it constantly. Two weeks before Christmas she left, ghosted me."
You reach out and touch his arm softly. "I'm sorry. Shitty exes are the worst. You deserved better."
Bucky can't help the way his heart stutters. You...a sudden knock snaps through the shack. Steve's voice loud on the other side. "Boss says we should just go home and I kinda need ya Buck. You drove."
You let out a soft laugh before you stand. "You better go. I'll grab a ride from Natasha."
He stands as well. "You sure? I can make Steve ride in the back."
You shake your head slowly. "Nah. It's fine. I'll see you tomorrow?"
"Yeah. See ya tomorrow."
He turns to leave. A bittersweet feeling in his chest. He was going to ask you out finally. To put aside the nerves and just go for it.
You wait a heartbeat before you call out to him. "Buck? Hang on a second." Pushing the crate aside with your foot you cross the small space.
His heart jumps into his throat. Turning slowly to find you standing so close he can smell your perfume. "Yeah sweetheart? You ok?"
You nod. Time to be brave. "I like you. A lot. You're sweet and funny and you make me feel safe. I haven't really felt safe with a guy in a long time. So...I just needed to tell you that."
He didn't expect that. Watching your face for a moment before he makes a decision. "I like you a lot too. I-", he takes a breath and lets it out. "I was gonna ask you if you wanted to go out maybe? Dinner and a movie? A date."
Butterflies explode in your stomach. A date! He's asking you on a date! "I'd love to! Yes."
His grin makes your mouth go dry. God he's handsome.
He can feel his neck getting hot. You said yes! Thank God. "I'll pick you up at 6 then? Friday night."
"Friday night."
It rains for the next three days but you don't mind it. He texts you throughout the next days. Letting you pick the restaurant and the movie.
Friday morning dawns bright and early. You have a plan. A fool proof plan. Calling Natasha around 10 to help you get ready.
She's all grins when you answer the door. "So he finally did it huh? Good for him."
You laugh and let her in. "Yeah. We're going to Sal's and then to the old theater. They're playing classics."
Nat nods. "So what's the plan for outfits? Knock his socks off or keep it comfy and casual?"
You think it over. All the flirting and the conversations you've had. He's seen you in bathing suits but you want to knock him out. In a good way. "Socks off. Definitely."
The grin she gives you is conspiratorial. "You got it. Let's knock Bucky Barnes on his ass."
She directs you to take an everything shower while she raids your closet. 3 dresses laid out when you finally emerge smelling like honey and lavender.
Gesturing to what she found. "Little black dress is a classic but you have this backless red that would look amazing and then there's the sundress. Simple but also sexy as hell."
You look over each of them with a critical eye before you decide. "Sundress."
Nat scoops the other two away. "Perfect. Hair and make up next?"
You nod. "Soft makeup. Light. Natural hair?"
"Let's do it."
He's a nervous wreck. Steve has had to talk/distract him for most of the day. "Buck you like this girl something fierce. What are you nervous about?"
He makes a face and flops onto the couch. "How much I like her Stevie. She's...amazing. And I don't wanna screw it up. Her last relationship the guy cheated and hurt her. I don't wanna hurt her."
Steve sits down next to him. "The fact that you're worried means you won't. You got this man. You're a good guy."
He lets out a sigh. "Yeah. I'm just worried about...it's a small town Steve. What if we run into Sharon?"
Steve makes a face. Sharon. Freshmen year. Toxic as hell. "Forget about her. She forgot about you when she ghosted you and hooked up with Walker."
He knows Steve is right. And he really does like you. Pushing the thought of Sharon away he gets to his feet. "Ok. Yeah. You're right. How do I look?"
Steve chuckles and gives him a thumbs up. "Like a guy who's ready to wow a girl he likes."
"You're damn right."
You're not exactly pacing as you wait but it's close. Nervous energy making your fingers fidget with the dress. Nat looks up from her phone and her face softens. "Hey. You look beautiful. And Bucky won't know what to do with himself. Trust me."
You nod. "Thanks Natasha. I guess-" the doorbell rings and you let out a squeak. "Ok. Ok ok ok. He's here. I can do this."
Nat gives you a thumbs up before she makes her way to the backdoor. "Knock him dead." Before she's gone.
You take a deep breath and open the door.
He looks...Jesus. A nice black button down, blue jeans that should be a crime, and boots. He looks hot as hell.
He can feel his heart stops. Sundress. You wore a sundress. Fuck. Clearing his throat he smiles. "Hey sweetheart." He should have brought something. Flowers. But he didn't ask if you liked flowers. Shit. "You look beautiful."
You feel heat streak across your face. "Thank you. So do you."
He lets out a soft chuckle and rubs at that back of his neck. "Never been called beautiful before. You ready?"
"Well you are. And yes. Very ready."
Sal's is quiet. Romantic. Bucky guides you through the restaurant with his hand on the small of your back. Austin never did that. Austin didn't do a lot of things. Bucky pulls out your chair and that is what does it. He's truly a gentleman.
Dinner is lovely. The conversation flowing easily between you. Making each other laugh. Just existing in the moment. It's going so well until you suddenly feel eyes on you. Turning your head to catch sight of a blonde woman staring at you.
Bucky notices the small pause and looks over your shoulder. "Shit."
You reach across the table and rest your hand on it, palm up. "I'm guessing that's your ex huh?"
You can feel her staring daggers at you.
Bucky takes your hand carefully. Soft. So damn soft. Holding your hand gently he sighs. "Yeah. I was afraid of this. Small town shit."
You squeeze his hand softly. An idea forming in your mind. "Her loss. You're an amazing guy Buck. And she sucks. I'm having a great time with you and I'm not gonna let her ruin it."
He can't help but look at you. His expression going soft. "I'm having a great time too. She's not ruining anything." Slowly, so slowly, he brings your hand to his mouth. Softly kissing your knuckles. "Wanna get out of here? Not because of her, I just want to have more time with you."
You nod. He's gonna make you fall in love with him at this rate. "Yeah. I'd like that."
He keeps your hand in his as you pay and make your way out. Sharon staring the whole time. Sad really. Ignoring the guy with her when he tries to get her attention.
You walk along the sidewalk downtown. Looking at shop fronts and just sort of meandering. The conversation still flowing easily. Classes for the next semester. Ideas about the future. By the time you're at the theater you know. You're in love.
The movie theater is pretty empty but that's not what has his attention. You do. Watching the shifting lights and shadows play across your face. How you smile at something sweet. The way you laugh at the onscreen antics. He realizes he's gone on you. He loops his arm around your shoulders and pulls you close. “This ok?"
You relax into his shoulder and nod. "Very ok." setting the popcorn bucket aside you brush a soft kiss to his cheek. "That ok?"
His heart starts to flutter. Racing hard against his chest. "Yeah sweetheart. So very ok." he looks down at you after moment. His eyes flicking down to your lips before meeting your eyes again. An unasked question.
You shift up a bit and rest your forehead against his. "Yes." screw the movie.
His smile is a little crooked before his lips catch yours. It's gentle and sweet and you lean into it fully. Letting it build. Trading soft breaths and hushed whispers of each others names.
He's going to die happy. Softly nipping at your lip as the credits start to roll. The house lights flickering back on is the only thing that pulls him back. "We should get outta here."
"Ok." Taking his hand you get to your feet. You have a feeling that the night isn't over though.
The stars are brighter outside of town. The sound of crickets and a distant owl. Quiet and calm. The radio in his truck plays softly as you both stretch out in the bed. A blanket under you and his arm under your head. "You're comfortable to lay on."
He lets out a laugh that settles low in your belly. You adore his laugh. Feeling him shift after a moment he sits up a bit and leans over you. "And you're gorgeous. And sweet. And kind. You...You are so beautiful sweetheart and I'm gone on you."
You reach up carefully and run your fingers through the hair at his temple. "Yeah?"
He nods and lowers himself closer to you. "Yeah. I really want to kiss you again."
You lean up and softly brush your lips against his. "Me too."
That's all he needs. Catching your lips in a deep kiss that steals your breath and ignites the blood in your veins.
You lose track of time after that. Kissing him. Hands roaming. When he slots between your legs it doesn't make you uncomfortable or panic. It feels right. And when he grinds into you you can't stop yourself from moaning his name.
He feels himself unraveling. Being so close. Kissing and touching. He wants more. He wants so much more but he doesn't want it to be in his truck. Not on a first date. He wants to do this right. He presses his hips to yours one final time before he stops. Burying his face in your neck as you wrap your arms around him.
The swell of need recedes slowly. The fire not gone but burning lower. He stopped. Why did he stop? "Bucky? Are you ok? Did I do something wrong?"
He leans up enough to see your eyes. Something wrong? "God no. I'm better then ok sweetheart. I just...I don't want to push for too much. And definitely not in the bed of my truck on our first date. I want to keep taking you on dates and when you feel it's right then we move to the next part."
Oh. Dammit. He's too good. You drop one arm from around his neck and cup his cheek. "You're sweet, you know that? Worrying about me like that. No one...that's never happened before."
He shifts back onto his knees and carefully pulls you onto yours. "You deserve someone who worries. Who wants to wait until you're ready."
You have never experienced this before. Not this level of care. "You deserve the same Jaime."
Jaime. Not Bucky. Not James. Jaime. Yeah he's never gonna let you go now.
He rests his hands on your hips and leans back a bit. He's gonna ask. No waiting. No backing out. "Tonight was...I don't have the words but I do wanna ask you something?"
You rest your hands on his chest. He’s solid. Warm. You can feel his heartbeat under you palm. Fast. That warm feeling settling deeper in your chest. "Ask."
Right. "Be my girlfriend?" The crickets stop. The world stops. Silence. A beat before he watches your eyes go wide. The most beautiful smile on your lips as you answer.
"I'd love to be your girlfriend."
The next few weeks are some of the best of your life. During work you keep it professional. Fleeting glances. Secret smiles. He takes you home after work and you always end up making out. Going a little further each time.
The dates are always special. A picnic on a Saturday. Visiting bookstores and getting coffee. Dinners and lunches and you're so happy you feel like you could burst. He doesn't decide for you. It's always something talked about. Agreed upon. And no topic is off limits. He even goes with you to get birth control.
Thursday hits hot and fast. Too hot to stay in the shack. You peek around, no customers. Perfect. Making your way down to the pool to take a break you slip into the water with a sigh. It’s not ice cold but cool enough. Leaning back against the wall you watch the water. A few kids in the shallow end. Moms with books and umbrellas. You let out a soft sigh as your eyes trail to where Bucky is standing. He’s off duty it seems. Your eyes meet and you beckon him to you.
He nods and swallows hard. You look like a mermaid. Or maybe a siren. The water droplets in your hair. The patches of freckles that call his name. Goddamn. He pats Steve on the shoulder and walks to the side your on. Slipping down into the water his hands instantly find your hips. “Hey babydoll. You ok?”
You look into his eyes and nod. “Yeah, just hot. Thought I might cool off for a bit. You on break or off?”
“Off. I was gonna come pester you but this works much better.” He leans in close and cages you slightly against the wall. “You look like some siren fantasy right now. Makes it hard to think.”
That makes you laugh. A siren fantasy. This man. You rest your hands on his shoulders and let out a pleased hum as his fingers squeeze your hips. A wishful thought crossing your mind. If only you had met him before Austin. It’s stupid really, you doubt he would have noticed you then, but it makes you wonder just a little. What might have been.
You’ve gone quiet on him. Leaning back a bit he looks at you, concern clear on his face. “What’s going on in that brilliant head sweetheart? Good thoughts or bad?”
“Neither really. Just wondering what would have happened if we met sooner. If you would have noticed me or...if you would have wanted to date me.”
His chest hurts a bit at the wistful note in your voice. “Baby, if we had met sooner I would have noticed you in a heartbeat. I would have tripped over myself to ask you out. Day one. Minute one. Ok? You are amazing. You make me happy. You talk to me. You talk with me. I feel seen with you. And I hope you know that I see you too, alright?”
You nod and sniffle a bit before you rest your face against his chest. “Ok. I’m sorry. I don’t know where that came from.”
He nods and brushes a kiss to the top of your hair. “It’s ok sweetheart. Sometimes those thoughts just happen. God knows I get im too but I’m here and I’m not going anywhere.”
Something sweet and warm settles in your chest at that. He understands. He understands and he’s not going anywhere.
One night you both decide to stay in. Hanging out at his place. You meet Joaquin and Sam, who gives you a knowing smile and a firm hand shake, before he leaves. "Have a goodnight lovebirds." Bucky just shakes his head at that. "Ignore him."
Steve looks the both of you over before he makes an excuse. "I'm gonna go to Nat's. I'll see you in the morning." He didn't say who he would see but you let it go.
Bucky orders pizza and you curl into his side on the couch. Neither of you paying attention to whatever is on the TV. You're too wrapped up in each other.
His thumb rubs soft circles at your hip. You love the little touches. The little acts of intimacy that make you feel cared for.
You lean up to press a kiss to his jaw when your phone vibrates. Glancing over you see that it's an Instagram notification. Ignoring it in favor of kissing down his jaw to behind his ear.
Bucky shivers slightly when you kiss the spot behind his ear. You've made it your mission to learn him. To learn the spots that make him melt. He loves it. Loves being seen by you. Being understood and cared for.
He tilts his head up so you can keep working your way down when your phone vibrates again. This time you growl softly and reach for the stupid thing blindly. Trying to silence it completely when it goes again.
Bucky shifts a bit. "Go ahead babydoll. I'm not going anywhere." Interruptions happen. "It could be something."
You grumble and pull your lips away from his neck. He's well on his way to a very nice hickey. "Fine. But I'm not done with you. Very important work happening here."
He chuckles and leans his head back against the cushion. Important work. Yeah. Of making him harder then a rock. Not that he's complaining.
You wake your phone up and open the notification. A DM. You open it and nearly drop your phone. It's a picture of Sharon and Bucky. Low light but you would recognize his face anywhere.
Bucky moves and looks at your phone. A cold wash of fear coursing through him before he recognizes the picture. "2 weeks before Christmas break. That was the last time we were together before she ghosted me."
You look at the photo and then his face. "This is...from over a year ago?"
He nods. "Yeah. We were only together for 3 months, 3 bad months, she never listened. Always had this plan for me that I never wanted and then she was gone. Blocked me everywhere and hooked up with John."
You take a deep breath and let it out. You don't doubt him. No. There's no doubt about Bucky but you're pissed. Your fingers hover over the keyboard before you look at him. He doesn't look sad about Sharon. He looks annoyed at her.
You set your phone down and shift closer again. "I don't doubt you baby. I never will. But she’s playing a game and I'm not. I just...Why was she making a plan for your life?"
"We won state two years ago. There were a bunch of NBA recruiters there. I'm decent at basketball but it's not my passion. I wanna be an engineer like my dad. And she hated that. Said it was a poor man's job. And she didn't want a poor man. She had expectations. Money. Big house. Nice cars. I just want comfortable. Happy."
You cuddle into him and rest your head on his shoulder. "I like your version of happy. Of being comfortable."
He lets out a soft breath. "Yeah? Think you could see yourself with an engineer one day?"
"Yeah. I definitely see myself with an engineer. Think you could see yourself with a journalist?"
He turns his head and kisses your forehead. "Absolutely I could."
You lean up and kiss his jaw. "That's all I need." You open your phone again and block her. Whatever happens next you're gonna handle it.
He reaches for you slowly. His hands pulling you gently into his lap. "It probably sounds insane but I knew the second I met you that you were it for me. That if we got together...you're some kind of wonderful sweetheart and I don't know what I did to find you but I'm glad I did."
You rest your hands on his shoulders. Looking into those stormy blues that you love. "You're it for me too. That first day and every day since."
You take a slow breath before you rest your forehead against his. "Jaime? Take me upstairs?"
You're ready. There's no doubt in your mind. No fear. Just want and love and desire sitting in your chest and dying to break free.
He blinks up at you. Taking in the words you just said. "Yeah? Are you sure sweetheart? There's no pressure."
You nod your head slowly. "Yes. Enthusiastically yes. Please?"
"Absolutely. Hang on baby." He gets to his feet with ease. Holding you under your ass before he takes the stairs two at a time. His girl. His sweet girl.
His room is a perfect representation of him. Books stacked on his desk. Blue comforter on his bed. Posters of bands on the walls. Pictures of him and his sister. Him and Steve. He's such a beautiful soul.
Setting you on the bed he kneels between your knees. Looking into your eyes with a soft smile. "Before we start I want to know what you want. What you need from me. What you like. I want this to be good for us both ok?"
What you want. What you like. That's another first. Being asked. "I want everything Bucky. Your mouth. Your fingers." You look down at where he's straining against his sweats. "You inside me. I want you." You reach out and rest your hand against his chest. Feeling how his heart is racing. "What about you?"
His mind goes blank for a second. Everything. You want everything. You want him. "Fuck sweetheart, I want the same thing. I want everything."
You smile. Reaching for his hand and placing it at the bottom of your shirt. "Then we start here."
You've seen each other in bathing suits and fancy clothes for dates but this? It's so much better. Stripping each other slowly. Hands that wander and tease. He's making a mess of you and you love every minute of it.
He can't help but marvel at you. His mouth finds its way down your body with pinpoint precision. Playing with your nipples until they're stiff. Grazing his teeth down your sternum until he gets distracted by your hips. This is heaven. When he catches sight of how wet you are he groans. Resting his forehead against your thigh. He can feel himself leaking but he's trying to be a gentleman here. You first. Always you first. Tracing a rough finger along your slit he watches your face. The way your mouth falls open with a soft moan. "I wanna touch you sweetheart. I want you to cum on my fingers. Please?"
You can deny him nothing. Letting your legs fall open completely for him. "Yes." He's so gentle and sweet. A giver.
He parts your folds with gentle pressure. Trailing his finger and gathering your slick. When he looks up again...his heart skips a beat completely. The way your looking at him. It's a look he's never seen before. One of trust. One of...love. He shifts up your body and kisses you as he slowly sinks one finger inside. So warm. Wet. Catching your moan with his lips he waits for you to adjust.
You tilt your hips with a purr. The pressure is perfect and that's just one finger. Fluttering your walls slightly as you adjust. Whispering against his lips. "I'm ok. You can move baby."
He doesn't need to be told twice. Slowly. He builds you up slowly. Letting you ride his hand. His thumb moves to circle your clit after a bit. He wants to see you unravel. Pressing soft kisses to the corner of your mouth his voice is a soft rasp when he speaks. "Another?"
His finger and thumb have you balanced perfectly. Thursts and circles and holy shit you want more. His question makes your hips snap. "Fuck. Yes."
He chuckles and adds another. "Anything for my girl. Talk to me sweetheart. How does it feel?" crooking his fingers just slightly on a particularly lovely thrust.
“G-Good. Holy shit baby do that again."
He does. Finding that one spot that makes everything going hazy. Grinding down against his hand you let out a low moan. "J-Jaime I'm close. Don't stop."
"Never. Cum for me sweet girl. Give it to me." he leans down and takes a nipple into his mouth. Sucking in time with his thrusts.
It's too much and it's amazing. Your toes curling as you fly apart at the seams. His name falling out of you as stars explode all around you.
He doesn't stop entirely once you've come. His fingers slowly working you through it. His mouth softly moving to kiss you through the aftershocks. Whispered words of praise. "My beautiful girl. You did so good for me. Looking so good riding my hand like that."
You hum against his lips. Boneless for the moment. Little pulses still coasting through your cunt. You reach up and brush his hair back from his forehead. You want to touch him too. Looking down between you at where he's hard and leaking. "Can I? I want to touch you too."
He wants it but he also wants to be inside you. His voice sounds wrecked to his own ears when he speaks. "I want to but I also feel like if I can't be inside you I might die. Next time?"
The idea of a next time fills you with warmth. He wants a next time. "Next time." you roll your hips against his hand and gasp as a freah wave of slick rushes onto his hand. That's new.
The new slick surprises him. "God baby you're trying to kill me, aren't you?" pulling his fingers free carefully he sticks them in his mouth. Humming happily at the taste of you on his fingers. "Delicious. Sweetest thing I've ever tasted."
You feel your cheeks go pink. He's so fucking cute. And you need him inside you. Now. Right now. "Whose killing who here Barnes? Wet. Empty. I need you baby. Please?"
His entire body suddenly feels electric. You had him riled up before but now? Now he's going to give you everything you need. Leaning down to kiss you he shifts between your legs. Hooking one over his hip. "My pretty girl. Don't worry Angel. We'll both get what we need."
There's a sudden flare of nerves but he pushes it down. You want him and he's not going to hide. Lining up he slowly sinks into you. Feeling everything. Letting you pull him in with a moan.
The stretch of him is perfect. Wrapping yourself around him with a soft sigh. Full. So full. When he stops moving you clench slightly. The growl that rumbles up makes you grin.
You're evil and he loves it. Bracing on his arms he looks at you with adoration on his face. "Good?” he wants to move but he's gotta be sure. Gotta wait for you.
"Very good." distantly you're glad that Steve and Sam aren't home because this is gonna be loud. Tilting your hips you run your nails down his back gently. "Fuck me baby."
The first slow drag of him pulling back has you whining. But when he thrusts back in you break a little. When he does it again you break completely. Your body shaking and arching into him.
He moves slowly at first. The way you feel around him is paradise. He could die happy right here. When you start to shake against him though? That's when he picks up the pace. Dropping to his forearms so he can swallow every sound you make. Feel every whine and moan.
The shift is beautiful. Him close. The sound of skin against skin. It's a symphony and Bucky Barnes is a maestro. The sounds he pulls from you. How you love him. One particular thrust has your body snapping tight and your back arching hard.
"There we go. Right there baby. Hold on tight ok?" he's not gonna last long but he doesn't mind that. Not when your so close he can feel it.
You squeeze your legs around him. You want him closer. As deep as possible even though he's already buried inside you.
He drops his hips and grinds into you before his thrusts get harder. Hitting that spot that makes you feel boneless. "Let go f'me baby. I got you."
One more hard thrust has you spinning out. The world going white as you scream his name. Your entire body clenches in a beautiful wave that pulls him over with you.
He buries his face in your neck with a groan. Panting and covered in sweat before he rolls you both onto your side. Giving you both a moment to come back to yourselves fully.
You can feel everything. The twitching of his dick still inside. How both of your hearts are racing. The slowly cooling stickiness of sweat. Worth it. You're happy. Really happy.
It takes a few minutes before he speaks. No one he's ever been intimate with has ever made him feel like this. Your hands softly tracing along his shoulders. The kiss you press to his neck. He's fucked. Pulling back a few inches he looks at your face. Reaching up to tuck some stray hairs behind your ear. "You ok?"
You huff out a laugh. "Yeah. Better then ok. I think I saw God for a minute there. I can't feel my legs." it's true. He melted your brain. And you love him. "Are you ok?"
"Yeah sweetheart. I'm good. Really good." He wants to say it. To tell you he loves you but just after mind blowing sex seems like a bad idea. He doesn't want you to think it's just the endorphins.
You shift slightly into his hand and let out a soft purr. Feeling him still inside. It's nice. Really nice. But your body is starting to cool down with the sweat and the stickiness.
He lets out a happy sigh before he pulls out slowly with a groan. Your body not wanting him to go. The cooling sweat on his back is making him itchy. "Come on pretty girl. Let's get cleaned up and ready for bed."
There's not much sexy about this shower but it's still nice to be under the warm water with him. He's gentle with you. Making sure your clean before he wraps you in a towel and carries you back to his bed to tuck in.
You're warm, clean and happy as you tuck into his side. Resting your head on his chest so you hear his heartbeat. The soft beat of it under your ear.
He takes a slow breath before he squeezes you softly. Tired and happy. God he's happy. He's never felt happier. "Get some sleep babydoll. I'll make breakfast for us in the morning."
You hum and nuzzle in closer. "Ok. Pancakes?"
He chuckles. His girl. His. God he's lucky. "Pancakes."
Morning comes softly. Golden rays sneaking through his curtains and painting you in soft light. He's been awake for an hour just watching you sleep. He promised pancakes. He brushes a soft kiss to your forehead before getting up and finding a pair of sleep pants. Slipping them on he heads downstairs just as the front door opens. A slightly disheveled Steve walking through.
Both men grin a bit before Steve takes off his jacket. "She still out cold?"
Bucky nods and heads for the kitchen. "I promised her pancakes. How's Nat?"
Steve plops down at the kitchen table. He looks tired but happy. "Good. We uh...we talked about the future. Our future. We're official now."
Bucky smiles and reaches into the cabinet for the pancakes mix. "Good. I'm happy for you punk."
Steve laughs before he gets a more serious look on his face. "You guys...you love her, don't you?"
Bucky nods. "Yeah. I almost told her last night but the timing wasn't right."
"Say no more. Please say no more. I'm just happy you found someone who makes you happy. She's sweet. And not to compare but she's so much better then Sharon. You guys are perfect together. Seriously."
"Yeah. She listens. She understands. I got lucky." Pouring the pancake mix into a pan he lets his arms hang loose at his sides. "She's the best. I love her Stevie. I can feel it in my bones that she's the one."
Steve gets to his feet slowly. Moving to rest a hand on Bucky’s shoulder. "Then tell her. Cause I'm pretty sure that girl loves you too."
You're having a lovely dream. All wrapped up in Bucky's arms as he kisses your neck. It's a lovely mirror to last night. You wake up just as his hands start to wander the smell of of fresh pancakes hitting your nose. Smiling softly you slip out of bed and grab one of his hoodies. It shallows you but it smells like him.
Making your way downstairs you stop just inside the kitchen door to watch him. He's so pretty. It's not just that though. He's sweet. Funny with a dry wit. He makes you feel so safe it's ridiculous. Pushing away from the door you pad up behind him to wrap your arms around his waist. Pressing a soft kiss to his spine. "Those for me?"
He hums and sets the spatula aside. Turning in your arms so he can hold you properly. "Mmhm. Sleep ok?"
You tip your head back and look up at him. "Better then ok. Last night was amazing. You were amazing."
He leans and presses a kiss to your forehead. "So were you. And pancakes as promised sweetheart."
You wish you could just say it but something holds you back. "Good man. Thank you Jaime."
He laughs a bit before he gently shifts you to the table. "You sit and I'll serve. And then we can figure out what we're doing today."
The weekend is syrupy and slow. It's lovely. Waking up beside him. Just spending time. You don't want it to end but Monday dawns bright and early. You ride together to work. Walking in hand in hand. He kisses you before heading off to his post and you to the shack.
The day goes by slowly. Both of you sneaking glances and smiles. It feels good. Really good. Almost too good. Around 4 something changes. You feel it before you see it. Sharon and Walker coming through the gates. And behind them...Austin. You know that smug arrogant look anywhere.
"Shit. Shit shit shit." You duck out of the shack and walk quickly to Bucky’s post. "We have a problem."
Bucky glances away from the water and down to you. Clocking the look on your face before he hops down. "What's wrong? Are you ok?"
You shake your head. This is bad. Really bad. "Sharon is here. With Walker. And my ex."
His jaw clicks shut. Shoulders going tight. "Go find Steve."
"Jaime?"
He shakes his head. "Please sweetheart. Just go find Steve."
"Ok." Shifting past him you spot Steve coming around the corner with Natasha. You don't run but you move quick enough that Steve has to catch you slightly. "What's wrong?"
The words come out in a rush. Anxiety spiking through you. "They're here. Walker and Sharon. My ex. They're together and Bucky told me to come find you. I don't know what he’s planning."
Steve looks over your head and then nods. "I do. You go with Nat ok? We'll take care of this don't worry."
You are going to worry. You can't help it. "No. I'm not gonna let you two just do whatever this is! I need to be a part of this."
Steve sighs and then looks to Natasha. "You too?"
Nat grins. "Yup. Sharon needs to be knocked down a few pegs."
"Alright. Let's go."
Bucky is ready. Ready for a fight or whatever this is going to turn in to. Sharon comes to a stop in front of him. Her eyes narrowing as she takes him in. "Long time no see Bucky."
He tilts his head slightly. "Not exactly accurate Sharon. You keep turning up like a bad penny. What do you want?"
Walker smirks and wraps an arm around Sharon. "We just wanted to check on you Barnes. Make sure that you and your new girl are doing ok considering how her last relationship ended."
You catch that last bit as you move to Bucky’s side. Steve on his left with Nat right behind you. "You mean when he cheated on me with my best friend? Or when got his ass kicked by her boyfriend when he found out? Cause I'm totally fine with how that played out."
Walker blinks. "Wait. He cheated on you? He said you just left him one day. No note. No explanation. Just gone."
You chuckle but there's no humor in it. "Oh boy. And you believed him? Wow. No. He was a lying, cheating coward who played with my head our entire relationship. Right Austin? How many girls was it? Three? Four? And I was so stupid to believe every lie. That I was the only girl for you. And when I finally figured it out I caught you and Hannah. So I left. But not before Tyler found out and knocked you on your ass. That was a good night.”
Austin stares at you with anger in his eyes. One hand reaching out to try and grab you but you step back. His eyes go cold. "He snaked me. And come on honey you know that she didn't mean anything to me. None of them did. She was just a quick fuck. You were too busy for me and I had needs. Men need sex. And you weren't put-" he doesn't get to finish that sentence as Bucky punches him right in the nose.
Austin stumbles back with a groan. Blood running down his face. His hands flying up to touch his obviously broken nose. "What the fuck?!"
Bucky steps forward. Steve right behind him. "You're a piece of shit Austin. Stay the hell away from her." He looks at Walker and Sharon. "This shit stops now. No more contacting her. No showing up at our jobs. Leave."
Sharon pulls away from Walker and steps in between Austin and Bucky. Her eyes wandering over his face and arms. "Sweet that you defend her James but do you really know her? Come on. She's a nobody. And you should really think about what future you'll have with some journalist when you're a famous basketball player. Who you want with you on the court during championships. During playoffs. You want me James. Not her."
She is unbelievable. Truly. You reach out and touch Bucky’s arm softly. "Baby? Can I?" It's not that you're asking for permission exactly but she's doing too much and you're so done with her.
Bucky nods and steps back. Austin is still bleeding and making a fuss. "What are you talking about Sharon? He's an engineer. He's always wanted to be an engineer like his dad. But you never listened. You never bothered. And then your delusional ass ghosted him." You step closer to her. Eye to eye.
"Now I'm gonna say this once and I need you to hear it. Let it go. He's happy. Stop bothering him, stop bothering us. It's done. He doesn't care Sharon. Leave him alone. And if you ever contact him, me, or our friends ever again you won't like what happens next. Clear?"
Sharon stares at you like she's looking for something. A weakness. Anything she can sink her claws into. You don't give her the satisfaction. Staring her down until she blinks. "Whatever. You can be losers together. Poor and poorer. Let's go Johnny. I'm done here."
John looks at Bucky and then Sharon. His eyes going hard. "Yeah I think I'll pass. We're done Shar. Find your own way home."
There's a faint scuffling sound before two police officers break through the crowd. "Anyone care to explain what all this is?" Someone must have called it in.
Between you and Bucky you explain the situation. Showing your phone with the picture and quite a few statements from pool regulars. Luckily no charges are pressed when someone tells them that Austin tried to grab you. Austin is escorted out of the pool along with Sharon. Walker leaves on his own with a mumbled apology that no one really accepts. By the time it's all said and done the pool closes and you're all left with the aftermath.
You sit on a bench and rest your head against the concrete wall. The quiet sound of water lapping filling up the quiet.
Bucky watches you for a second. The tired slump of your shoulders. His poor girl. He sits down beside you and rests his elbows on his thighs. "You ok?" He wants to hold you but he needs to be sure of what you want.
You shift closer to him and wrap your arms around him. "No. I was angry and scared and I didn't think they would be that stupid. And you punched Austin in the face!" You're not mad at him. You're just tired and the adrenaline dump is making it worse.
He shifts and wraps you up close. "I know babydoll. I shouldn't have done that but the things he said about you. It was reflex. It won't happen again. I swear it."
You shake your head and pull back to look at him. "I'm not mad at you baby. I'm mad at them. For showing up and acting like idiots. It didn't have to be that way."
He nods and holds you closer. "It didn't but they made that choice. You aren't responsible for that. They are."
He's not wrong. They made that choice. You tuck your face into his neck and just exist there for moment. Needing to be close. Grounding yourself in his arms. "Can we go home?"
"Yeah. Let's go home."
Summer stretches into long days of work and being together.
He takes you to the point again one night for date night. A soft blanket on the grass. Music playing from the truck again. Both of you laid out and watching the stars when a slow song starts to play. It's now or never.
You're comfortable. He's warm and solid and you want to stay here for the rest of the night. Looking up when he softly calls your name. "Yeah baby?"
Ever so carefully he sits up. Making sure you're still in his arms. He needs you in his arms for this. "There's something I wanna tell you." That sounds bad. Fuck. "It's nothing bad or scary I just...I love you. I love you and I needed you to know it."
He...he loves you? You wiggle slightly and push up so your face is level with his. Looking into his eyes you can see it. He loves you. You can see the nerves too. The hint of self doubt. Nope. You're not gonna let that stay. Smiling after a beat you lean close. Your lips barely brushing his when you finally speak. "I love you too James Buchanan Barnes."
The relief that courses through him feels like wildfire. Closing the scant inch between your lips he kisses you hard. Deep. Pouring all of that held back love into you until it becomes a feedback loop of breathing and whispered names. You love him. You love him. You love him.
You love him.
Epilogue
The sun beats down on the snack shack. Flipping off the light you pull the door closed and lock it for the last time. Summer is over. Steve, Bucky and Natasha wander over to you.
"So that's it huh?" Steve looks out over the pool with a wistful expression.
Bucky loops his arm around your shoulder and pulls you in close. "Yeah. That's it. For this summer at least."
Natasha leans into Steve and wraps her arms around him. "We should go out later. Grab dinner. Maybe go to the point and watch the stars?"
You nod. "That sounds like a good idea." Looking up at Bucky you take his hand with a smile and walk out of the pool for the last time of the summer. Into a new semester. Into a bright future. Happy. Safe. And loved. So very loved.
Ok. I finally did. I finally finished one of my ideas! In honor of my local pool opening it's a lifeguard AU. Reader runs the snack shack and Bucky and Steve are new lifeguards. We get appearances from Sam. Natasha. Sharon and Walker. Plus a few others! It's mostly fluff but there's some angst. It has smut too! I'm editing it now so hopefully it'll be out later today/early tomorrow! I hope you all like Summer Crush Special. It's my first fic here on Tumblr. Jesus.
I understand teenagers are irritating and often reactionary but it seems a section of people believe that shipping discourse addicted teenagers are the animating force of fascism and censorship in our culture and not rich white men with vast wealth and political power and like. Adults in general
You know what I find funny? All of these people coming forward, most anonymously by the way, making accusations or claims about certain writers and then having no proof. Zero. You do know that claims require proof yes? The onus is on the claimant to prove their statements to be factual. Without that proof...well that means you lied. Sorry. I don't usually involve myself in online drama but goddamn. I posted about this like two months ago and it just...sigh. It's sad. They aren't obligated to reblog fics. They aren't obligated to engage with anyone. And no, this isn't bootlicking as I'm sure some will think. It's simply an observation. Also running a story you claim as AI through AI to tell you if it's AI seems ironic when AI is a huge problem in the art spaces. But that's just my two cents. Feel free to ignore this but remember you are free to block. Free to not engage. That's all.
Sooooo toxic fandom shit is still a thing. I wish I could say I'm surprised but I'm not. People getting salty over fictional characters is honestly kinda laughable. They're not real. Go touch some fucking grass or something. Don't like, don't read. What the hell happened to that?! Like I have fics I wanna post and I'm going to, but I've turned anons off cause I'm not nearly as gracious or patient as some others I've seen. Wanna be an asshole? Go ahead but don't hide like a fucking coward. By the way, leave the BWA alone. They write good shit and are good folks from what I've seen and don't deserve the hate. You can simply block the writers and move the fuck on. It’s real easy to be fucking nice. Cultivate what you want if you don't like what they put out. Grow up, have some respect and stop acting like goddamn children. Fucking idiots.
Sooooo I totally forgot this side blog existed, and uh I suddenly remembered it was for not main stuff, and I've fallen back into a fandom and kinda want to write for it. Thing is I'm not sure if I should. It would be mostly reader x character stuff or AU's. I'm stuck in Bucky Barnes hell and while I'm not complaining really these ideas will not get outta my head. So would people in the fandom and the tag want to read my silly things? Inquiring minds need to know so I'm swinging into the dark and seeing what's what.
First post on a side blog...yey! So what insightful thing do I have to say? What nugget of wisdom to impart? That Caleb Widogast breaks my fucking heart. Just... every time. I swear the fragile glass pieces of my heart are just dust now. Fuck.
