Yeah, the players were pretty dumb like that. Go back and watch the first boss fight to get a better idea of what they believed then what I can convey in words. The extra ability, if I remember right, he hadn't had for very long. So he wasn't really sure how to handle using it. There was rumor that someone had been PK'd for having a unique ability, so there was a legitimate reason for maybe hiding it. Eh, SAO is different because the protagonist's internal struggle is hidden most of the time. The big things he deals with you see more how he reacts then anything else. How to deal with yui, his near murder of the fairy king, the complex morals around his play in GGO. It's hidden in the back. And I'm ok with that. On the surface he's a bit of a Mary sue, but on the inside he has huge internal struggles. (See his issues with his murders addressed during) So I suppose 8 kind of see your issue, but I don't agree with it, and I'm ok with that. I just wanted to present my side of it.
