Special Agent Fox Mulder Tasting evidence since 1993
THE X-FILES | 2.13
MULDER: No, Iāve been thinking about it. Looking at you tonight, holding that baby⦠knowing everything thatās been taken away from you. A chance for motherhood and your health and that made meā¦think that⦠I donāt know, maybe theyāre right. SCULLY: Whoās right? MULDER: The FBI. Maybe what they say is true, but for all the wrong reasons itās the personal costs that are too high. MULDER: There so much more you need to do with your life. So much more than this. MULDER: There has to be an end, Scully.
I know it's wrong, but I feel so heartbroken by that information. Its never going to happen anyway so yeah sure fine whatever.

MULDER AND SCULLY + twin flames (part one)
I donāt know if any God is listening, but I am standing right here. And Iām listening. Right beside you. Iām all ears. Thatās my choice.
Itās not just that Scully likes Mulder.
I have a somewhat specific interpretation as to why Scully sticks around in the X Files basement. It doesnāt make the endless suffering she eventually endures (shakes fist at CC) any more bearable, but it makes more sense to me why she keeps showing up to work despite the continuous horrors.
Itās Mulder, but itās more than just liking him on a platonic or even romantic level. Itās what he represents⦠itās that heās good.
Mulder cares for the bizarre and misunderstood. He cares about doing whatās right, not just doing his job. Heās diligent and truth-seeking, with no selfish ambitions. Heās gentle despite all his sadness. He cares about her, maybe most of all.
Meanwhile, her foray into government work continues to open her eyes to evil and corruption that eventually sink their horrific claws into almost every aspect of her personal life. Her family, her health, her body.
If Scully was truly a rational person, she wouldāve ran away long ago. But she isnāt⦠she believes in goodness and justice, observably irrational things to believe in. Yet, Mulder is proof that those things are real.
And to me, thatās a true touchstone⦠a person you can look at and think āthis world canāt all be evil, because this world has you.ā

me listening to any love song: "yes, it's about mulder and scully"
Is Fox Mulder the most comically-brutalized protagonist in television history? Not only is he shot and beaten up on a regular basis, but the list of extreme and exotic injuries he accrues over the course of the series has got to be some kind of TV cop record. The man is mind-wiped by the military in only the second episode. For any other TV cop, that would be a career-defining event, but itās just a day in the life of Agent Spooky.
Bro was cocooned by carnivorous insects, thrown out of a nuclear submarine into the Alaskan tundra by an alien bounty hunter, beaten up by an invisible gorilla. He was experimented on in a Siberian gulag, drowned in the Bermuda Triangle, tortured by Neo-Nazis. I wonder what getting Freaky Friday-ed by a malfunctioning UFO cloaking device does to your gonads. How much radiation has he been exposed to? Someone test this manās hair follicles. How many mysterious bodily fluids has he dipped his finger in and tasted at crime scenes? Dear God, someone test him for HIV. Imagine being the FBI doctor who administers his physicals.
Remember when the Shadow Government was putting LSD in Mulderās water tank? Our boy got blown up in an underground train car and resurrected in a Navajo healing ceremony, and thatās not even the last train car he would get blown up in. One time, his lungs were filled with mutated tobacco beetles. Hoss let a quack doctor give him ketamine and drill a hole in his goddamn skull. In an unrelated incident, he had a chunk of his brain stolen. He was locked in a padded cell, trapped inside of a video game, andā of course āabducted by aliens. Fox Mulder was fully dead, and then came back to life after being exhumed, and nobody even seemed that surprised when he rolled up at the J. Edgar Hoover building like nothing had happened.
Am I missing anything? How is this man still alive? His body must be like a pillowcase full of broken lightbulbs. Every time he moves, you just hear crunching.
WAIT??? WHAT HAPPENS IN THE X FILES???? All the gifs I've seen are normal looking cop show gifs shipping the two main protagonist???? When does the rest of this happen????????
For the uninitiated: Not only do all of the things I listed literally happen in The X-Filesā¢ļø (Ā©ļø Fox Network, 1993-2002), but most of them are played completely straight. Itās an occasionally wry and meta, but overall very serious and dramatic show. Itās a gritty, edgy, pseudo-realistic 90ās police procedural, in which our heroes are a couple of smart, serious, philosophical noir detectives with classic Hollywood features and unbelievable lighting-in-a-bottle chemistry, and also the plot is complete and total nonsense. Itās cleverly written, beautifully shot, wonderfully acted, and also out of its fucking mind.
